¡Un Minuto Loco! Use: Use these worksheets to practice and/or review conjugating verbs. They also are great for formative
assessments, warm ups, or closure activities. Students will love to race! Objectives: 1. Students will be able to conjugate ER and IR Spanish verbs in present tense for a variety of subjects. 2. Students will be able to produce simple written narrations of events in Spanish present tense.
Prep: Print off copies double sided, and cut in half so you have one sheet for each student, or for pairs of students to share. Students can save the other side to use next time or do two (or four!) “rounds” of play. To accommodate all printers and copiers, there are color and black & white versions of all 8
sheets included. Conjugation Race Activity: I use these worksheets individually or with partners (partners alternate writing the answers while collaborating on
responses). Consider pairing a “weak” student with a “strong” student. For lists #5-8, the teacher picks the infinitives and gives those to students before beginning the activity. Consider giving infinitives in English or Spanish.
Consider presenting the er & Ir verbs list on the projector (or letting students keep out notes) the first few races, and removing it for later races, as they know the verbs better.
I give students 1 - 3 minutes (put your timer up on the overhead projector or use a visible timer if possible) to complete one sheet, depending on your students’ level. Many times though, I just say “ready set go” and then stop them when I see a few kids are done.
When time expires, I say “pencils down”, and they switch their paper with a partner to grade it. On the board, I write the correct answers (or display my key on the overhead). Students put a big X through the box if
the person they’re grading missed the problem or didn’t complete it. I intermittently talk about the subjects (ask for definitions, etc.) on the list: List #2 & 3 contain family member subjects (with possessive adjectives) List #5 – 8 contain Superheroes in Spanish
See this fun blog for more on translating Superhero names to Spanish:http://ralphdibnytheworld-famouselongatedman.blogspot.com/2012/07/viva-los-superheroes-yes-they-have.html
After grading, students add up the Xs and put the #missed at the top of the page. I then ask, “Who missed 0?”, and
write up those students’ names on the board; then “Who missed 1?”, etc. I often give prizes for the top scorers.
This activity should take about 10 minutes to get through one round with grading, explaining, seeing who won, etc. I often do it as a class ending activity. Great formative assessment!!
Homework / Language Application Activity: Consider pushing your students beyond the drill and kill conjugation races with an language application activity, following
their “Minuto Loco”. I print the “Frases creativas” sheets on the opposite side of each “Minuto Loco”. Students produce sentences (or questions!) using some of the subject/verb pairings on the “Minuto Loco” they just completed. Give students a topic to inspire their writing. Topic suggestions: la escuela, el restaurante, por la mañana, por la noche, on the playground, at home, food, including times, love, laziness, sports, negatives, etc. This activity should take about 10 minutes depending on students’ abilities.

variety of subjects. 2. Students will be able to produce simple written narrations of events in Spanish
present tense.
Conjugation Race Activity: 1. You will work individually (or with a partner, if your teacher says so). 2. Be sure you have your page turned to the correct “list”! 3. You will have a few minutes to complete as many conjugations on your sheet
as you can. 4. When your teacher says “pencils down” stop writing! 5. Then switch your paper with a partner to grade 6. When grading, put a big X through the box if the person missed the
problem or didn’t complete it. 7. After grading, add up the Xs and put the #missed at the top of the page.
Return the paper to the owner.
Homework / Language Application Activity: 1. You will work individually (or with a partner, if your teacher says so). 2. On the “frases creativas” sheet, write 10 sentences (or questions) using the
