January’s Jr Duck of the Month is EmmaLee Minucci! This is EmmaLee’s first year in the Jr Ducks program and she plays forward on the Jr Ducks Mite Gold team. EmmaLee is a very dedicated person who is having fun in her first year.

EmmaLee, 11, was described as being a “workhorse” in her past tournament in San Jose by her coach. Her

•The AIHL (American Inline Hockey League) is in full swing and the Corona Ducks are off to a great start. Through the first ten games of the season the Ducks are posting an 8-2 record, which is their best start in team history. With the expansion of the the Pacific South division to include two Arizona teams, Phoenix Dragons and Arizona Ghostriders, along with the Las Vegas Aces, the division is more competitive than it has been in years past.

The Corona Ducks got off to a slow start to their sea-son with a 4-1 loss in their home opener to the Revi-sion Vanquish. However, they responded very well winning eight of their last nine games and enduring a busy January road schedule. During this road sched-ule the Ducks traveled up to Phoenix on Janurary 12 to play the Phoenix Dragons in a three game series.

During this series against the Dragons the Ducks had

an impressive showing taking all three games from Phoenix. The Ducks were led by new aquisition Itan Chavira, who tallied 11 goals and 13 points in those three games. The Ducks minor teams also went 2-2 during the weekend.

Two weeks later the Ducks traveled up to Las Vegas to play the division leaders, Las Vegas Aces. The road-weary Major team lost its first game 4-3 but bounced back to take the second and third game 6-4 and 7-3 respecively. The Ducks Gold Minor team also had an impressive showing, winning both of their games including one in overtime. The Ducks Orange Minor team fought hard but were ultimately defeated in both of their games.

The next AIHL games are in Corona on Thursday, Jan-uary 31st. Ducks Orange Minor plays at 7:20pm and 9:00pm and the Major squad takes on the HB Militia at 8:00pm.

January’s Drill of the Month is a great passing drill, where the skaters work on quick passes in give-and-go situa-tions. It is a great drill that gets every-one moving the puck quickly instead of holding onto the puck all the way into the offensive zone.

In addition, this drill can be used as a great warm-up drill in practices for the skaters and the goalies.

The drill is as follows:

• X starts the drill with a give-and-go pass to X1.

• X then makes a long diagonal pass to X2 for another give-and-go.

• Once the last pass is made X pro-ceeds to shoot on the goalie at the opposite end.

• Players from both ends go at the same time.

• *Once this is done several times, players switch to the opposite cor-ner, in order to change the angle on the goalie.

The Anaheim Ducks Winter Learn to Play Program presented by Ree-bok came to a successful close here at The Rinks – Corona Inline. The four-week session, which began on January 9, finished with an eager-to-learn and energetic group of over 25 kids attending each of the four classes.

As the sessions progressed from the second to fifth week of January the kids were able to learn and practice

fundamental hockey skills. During the first class kids learned the ba-sics of skating from Youth Hockey Director Ben Barrett. The second through fifth weeks introduced stick handling, passing, and shooting re-spectively. Everything culminated during the last part of week four’s session where the kids were able to practice all their newfound skills in a scrimmage game against each oth-er.

Overall, the Duck’s latest Learn to Play program was very successful. Many people have expressed their plans to continue playing hock-ey through Corona Inline’s Youth Learn to Skate program, which also teaches fundamental skills for inline hockey. Minimum gear require-ments include skates, stick, and hel-met. These items may be borrowed from our front desk if needed.

As for the Ducks next Learn to Play

session, it will announced shortly. The Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play Program is geared primarily to-wards kids who are brand new to the sport of hockey. Those who are a little more advanced are encour-aged to join one of The Rinks Learn to Skate Programs or may be placed on a wait list for the Ducks Learn to Play.

We love seeing people stick with hockey and hope to either see ev-eryone at the next Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play, Corona Inline’s Learn to Skate, or Corona Inline’s next Youth Rec Season. Thank you to everybody that attended and in the meantime keep practicing those skills!
