Dave LaVelle and his wife Anita came to Corona in
1973. Dave had accepted a teaching position in the
CNUSD. After serving as a teacher, he became a stu-
dent advisor, an assistant principal, a principal, then
the Director of Education, an administrator in Human
Resources and he retired 35 years as a Deputy Super-
intendent. Dave & Anita have three children, two are
in education and one is a doctor. Dave dedicates him-
self to community work and involvement. He is a
member of Circle City Rotary, Corona Police Communi-
ty Partnership, Corona/Norco/Eastvale Educational
Foundation and recently completed six years of ser-
vice on the Corona Library Board. Dave also volun-
teers for Peppermint Ridge, 100 Mile Club, Kids and
Cops Celebration. He also helps coordinate the Coro-
na Health Screening Camp annually for the last ten
years. Dave finds time to travel and run for exercise.
CEO Message
I am so thankful to work for your YMCA. I have been helping to run this Y for 15 years now and the time has gone by quickly. I am so grateful for all our donors and community partners. No one can do all we do without the help of our partners. I get to come to work every day and experience all the wonderful children and families of our community. We get to see the children grow up and master their worlds. Our Y members are so very special and we appreciate each and every one of them. Please tell all your friends and families about your Y experiences. Let everyone know that there is something for everyone at the Y. Become a Y member today and you will become part of one of the best organizations in your community and in the world. I wish you much love, laughter, and fun Y times. Yolanda
NEW PROGRAM SITE - YOUTH CENTER AT JURUPA
On July 1, 2012, we added a new program site, The Youth Center at Jurupa, 9254 Galena St, Riv-
erside, CA 92509. The Y is now able to support the Jurupa Valley area as we have supported the
communities of Corona and Norco. We are currently servicing toddlers, preschool and school
age children within this new area. The programs offered are State-Funded childcare, Summer
Day Camp, Before/After and Off-Track care; Transportation to and from selected schools. The
hours of operation are 6:00am - 6:30pm.
Building Future Leaders
The 2012-2013 delegates for Youth & Govern-
ment program were selected in September. We
have 24 high school students who will be expe-
riencing the law making process first hand,
through a unique youth-run, youth-led pro-
cess. The teen delegates write bills, select
government positions to role-play, attend
statewide training conferences and run for
various elected offices. They learn that ac-
tions give more power to ideas.
The students are fundraising to pay for the
program. Any size donation helps to create a
future leader in our community. If you or your
company is interested in sponsoring a student,
contact Lorena Gomez at (951) 736-1415 or

“I was really impressed with the coaches in
the swim program. My kids were non-
swimmers at the beginning. They can now
swim from one end of the pool to the other.”

Our annual Calvert Dinner was held on Oct 6, 2012. Ten companies and individuals sponsored tables. Over
200 people enjoyed delicious food and wonderful margarita’s provided by Miguel’s Restaurant. This year’s do-
nors and volunteers helped to raise 35% more funds than last year for our 24 delegates in the Youth & Govern-
ment program. Our amazing honorees were: LeRoy & Sylvia Fleming, Blue Banner Company, Chief Michael Abel,
Ann Glickman, MaryAnn Sherman and Monica Hunter. We thank you for your support!

Eric & Daniel
Yesina (Jessie) Santamaria’s twin boys, Eric & Daniel, have
attended the YMCA for over three years. The staff noticed
the boys had their own language between them and did not
speak to anyone else when they first started attending the Y.
They stayed together and did not separate or play with the
other children. The Y was able to get help for Jessie, who is a
single mom. The boys have received services from the school
district and the Wylie Center. The boys are now doing great
in school and are very social. The homework help is terrific
because Jessie works full time. “I would highly recommend
the YMCA to my family and friends,” said Jessie.
“The Y has a
very loving and
caring staff.”
Smokey the Bear & the Riverside County Firemen visited the Youth Center at Home Gardens.
