The NED ShowThank you to all the families who have purchased NED yo-yo’s this week. We enjoyed a fabulous performance by ‘The NED Show’ on Monday about growth mindset and the power of ‘yet’. It was great to see students engaged in the talk and now trying their hand at yo-yo’s.

Open DayEducation Week has been celebrated with deep learning in the classroom and discussions with students about their focus on learning. Tomorrow we open our classrooms and invite you in to participate in our learning journey and join us for a cuppa afterwards.

Art ShowIn two weeks, our much anticipated Art Show will be on display. The children have worked very hard with their creative projects and it will be fabulous to see them all on display and hopefully purchased by families.

Well done, Savannah!Congratulations to Savannah Lewis. I received an email this week describing your sportsmanship and effort in the recent netball championships. Well done for displaying our school values in all facets of your life.

The importance of attendancePlease ensure your children are attending school everyday and arriving on time in the mornings (this helps settle them in for a day of learning). It is always harder to get out of bed in winter, but it is important to keep up with attendance.

If you child is sick, please send in a note and/or doctor’s certificate as soon as they return to school. We have many unexplained absences in our rolls which we are now following up.

I hope to see many of you tomorrow at our Open Day!

Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books, and Australian authors and illustrators. This year, Book Week will be held in Week 5 (19-23 August). Teachers and librarians will conduct activities relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.

In the library, we are busy reading and discussing the shortlisted books for 2019 and exploring the powers that we gain through reading.

On Tuesday 20 August, we will have a Book Week parade, starting at 9.10 am, under the primary cola. Parents and family are welcome to attend. Students are invited to dress up as a favourite book character or favourite super hero. The idea is to have fun and celebrate books, so costumes do not need to be expensive or elaborate. Many books feature characters who just wear ordinary clothes! However, it is expected that students can name

the book that their character comes from.

After the Book Week Parade students will return to their classes for their morning literacy time. Later in the day, each class will visit the school art show which promises to be an amazing display of student art.

At 2pm, classes will buddy up to spend the afternoon with their older or younger buddies, reading stories together and celebrating literacy.

Don’t forget the Art Show opens after school!

Thank you for your support,

Anna Brewster.

This year the Book Week theme is ‘Reading Is My Secret Power’

My Community Project is an NSW Government program that provides funding for community projects, which are decided using a public vote. The program is made possible by the NSW Generations Fund.

Corowa Public School was successful in its application to build a Kids Shed to provide for local children in our community. Children and community groups will be invited to utilise the Kids Shed to share ideas and work on meaningful projects. Exposing young people to hands-on skills will better equip them for the future and enable them to contribute to our local community.

Corowa Public School has agreed to support and manage the building of the Kids Shed on school grounds. The 12m x 6m Colourbond shed with attached carport will be complete with work benches, furniture, tools and equipment. Program activities may include woodwork, tiling, painting, construction, art and crafts, gardening and sculpturing. It will be offered for use to local community groups, after school and use during school holidays. If the project is successful, the Kids Shed will be built and ready to utilise by January 2020.
