Galloway Acoustics originally began life in 1994 as Attenumate,which was then a subsidiary of Ductmate (Europe) Ltd, part ofthe Galloway Group, a leading company worldwide in the fieldof ventilation ducting and the associated manufacturing andinstallation work.

In July 1999 a decision was made to change the name of thedivision to Galloway Acoustics to complement the global GallowayGroup name change, designed to emphasise the strength andbreadth of the Group Portfolio.

The division thus began operating as an autonomous part of theGroup, servicing the Acoustics market for both noise controlproducts and acoustic consultancy. This being the case it wasfelt that the division should take out Professional Indemnity Insuranceas much of the work involved the completion of a design inputto select suitable products for each application.

Whilst some silencer testing had occurred at the set-up ofAttenumate, it was considered that more comprehensive producttesting be undertaken. In particular, testing to BS4718 1971and ISO 7235 1996 coupled with UKAS (United KingdomAccreditation Service) accreditation.

Some would say why go to the trouble of seeking UKASaccreditation on testing. Basically UKAS can only be achievedvia an independent test laboratory and gives an additional levelof credibility to the data being obtained at the end of the testprogramme.

2 CORPORATE OVERVIEW

This is accomplished by rigorous checks carried out on thelaboratory test facilities in which the margin of difference betweena number of repeated test results, on the same product test sample,must be so small that complete confidence can be gained in theknowledge that the same tests on a similar product can becompared on a ‘like for like’ basis, without fear of inherentinaccuracies in the test rig design, other than those normal forthe test procedure in question.

In 1999 no acoustic test laboratory in the UK had a UKASaccredited silencer test rig to the above standards. Very fewhad a fully compliant BS4718 test rig with a reversible fan toallow measurement of both inlet and outlet regenerated flownoise, and even fewer could test to the new ISO 7235 Standard.Thus Galloway Acoustics, in conjunction with Salford University,embarked upon a programme of designing, manufacturing andinstalling a fully compliant test rig to BS4718 and ISO 7235and at the same time gain UKAS accreditation.

The test programme commenced in March 2000, and aftermany months of hard work, was fully completed by August 2001,making Galloway Acoustics, to our knowledge, the only UKcompany to have tested silencers to both of the existing standardsand on a UKAS accredited test rig, the first of its kind in the UK.

In conjunction with these tests a range of software calculationspreadsheets based on Excel Macro programmes were developedin-house and these are the basis for our design selections.

A comprehensive silencer selection programme has been designedand this is available shortly on CD-ROM for use by designersneeding to select in-duct rectangular or cylindrical silencers.

Having completed the first test programme, Galloway Acousticsembarked on a second. This commenced in February 2002 andwas fully completed by 28th April 2002. The programmeinvolved testing sound reduction indices to the latest Europeanstandard, that being, BS EN ISO 1410-3 1995, of a numberof acoustic louvres, 150mm deep and 300mm deep designs,both with a double bank option and a range of acoustic panelsystems. The panel systems comprised three separate designs,‘H’ frame, Pentapost and Frameless, with five different panelstested within each design. Each system comprised no less than4-panel joints and typical roof, base and side joint details thusgiving ‘real life’ test results and not just a panel performance.

A third test programme, completed in March 2003, has seena range of metal acoustic fire doors being successfully testedboth acoustically at Salford University to BS EN ISO 1410-31995 and for Fire Rating at Warrington Fire Research.

Other developments include the launch of a wide range ofvibration isolators and inertia bases, acoustic and thermal materials.

Galloway Acoustics have been consistent in their expansion bythe provision of fully tested products coupled with the creationof one of the most experienced acoustic sales teams in the UK.

The design of products subsequently supplied from suchadvice is fully covered by our Professional IndemnityInsurance thus providing you with a worry free solutionand installation. Our office based estimating staff are atthe end of a telephone, facsimile or e-mail to assist youwith your more urgent enquiries.

Once an order is placed with Galloway Acoustics our

In July 1999 a decision was made to change the name of thedivision to Galloway Acoustics to complement the global GallowayGroup name change, designed to emphasise the strength andbreadth of the Group Portfolio.

The division thus began operating as an autonomous part of theGroup, servicing the Acoustics market for both noise controlproducts and acoustic consultancy. This being the case it wasfelt that the division should take out Professional Indemnity Insuranceas much of the work involved the completion of a design inputto select suitable products for each application.

Whilst some silencer testing had occurred at the set-up ofAttenumate, it was considered that more comprehensive producttesting be undertaken. In particular, testing to BS4718 1971and ISO 7235 1996 coupled with UKAS (United KingdomAccreditation Service) accreditation.

Some would say why go to the trouble of seeking UKASaccreditation on testing. Basically UKAS can only be achievedvia an independent test laboratory and gives an additional levelof credibility to the data being obtained at the end of the testprogramme.
