The Word Of God In The Life Of The Church

The General of the Roman Missal indicates that the proper dignity of the Word of God requires that there be a suitable place from which to proclaim the Sacred Scriptures. In this way, the faithful can pay attention to the Word of God during the liturgical celebrations particularly the Holy Mass. According to the Roman Missal, there are three characteristics about the ambo. First, only the Word of God and the homily be proclaimed from that place. Then, this is not a furniture that is removed and set, but a place worthy of the Word of God. Finally, to have a good sound system and be visually highlighted in the temple. Both the altar where the Mass is celebrated, and the ambo must be fixed and dignified fur-niture. The simultaneous presence of the altar and the ambo will constantly remind us of the two tables on which the Christian liturgy is based: the Word of God and the Eucharist. Generally, the ambo is located to the left of the altar, which was called the Gospel Side in the Extraordinary Rite, and it is suitable and well decorated. Pope emeritus Benedict XVI in his apostolic exhortation Verbum Domini, no. 68 reminds us, "Special attention should be given to the ambo as the liturgical space from which the word of God is proclaimed. It should be located in a clearly visible place to which the at-tention of the faithful will be naturally drawn during the liturgy of the word. It should be fixed, and decorated in aesthetic harmony with the altar, in order to present visibly the theological significance of the double table of the word and of the Eucharist. The read-ings, the responsorial psalm and the Exulted are to be proclaimed from the ambo; it can also be used for the homily and the prayers of the faithful." As an echo from Saint John chapter 6, let us commit ourselves for a better participation in our liturgy.

La Palabra De Dios En La Vida De La Iglesia

El General del Misal Romano indica que la dignidad propia de la Palabra de Dios exige que haya un lugar adecuado des-de el cual se pueda hacer la proclamación de las Sagradas Escrituras. De esa manera, los fieles podar prestar atención a la Palabra de de Dios durante las acciones litúrgicas en particular la Santa Misa. El Misal Romano destaca tres caracte-rísticas que debe tener el ambón. Primero, que solamente la Palabra de Dios y la homilía se proclamen desde ese lugar. Segundo, que no sea un mueble que se quita y se pone, sino un lugar digno de la Palabra de Dios. Finalmente, que tenga buen sonido y que sea visualmente destacado en el templo. Tanto el altar donde se celebra la Misa como el ambón deben ser muebles fijos y dignos. La presencia simultánea del altar y del ambón recordará constantemente a la comunidad las dos mesas en que se apoya la liturgia cristiana: la Palabra y la Eucaristía. Generalmente, el ambón se encuentra ubicado a la izquierda del altar, en lo que antes se llamaba “lado del Evangelio”,

y conviene que este bien adornado. El Papa emérito Benedicto XVI en su exhortación apostólica Verbum Domini, nº 68 nos re-cuerda: “Se debe prestar una atención especial al ambón como lugar litúrgico desde el que se proclama la Palabra de Dios. Ha de colocarse en un sitio bien visible, y al que se dirija es-pontáneamente la atención de los fieles durante la liturgia de la Palabra. Conviene que sea fijo, como elemento escultórico en armonía estética con el altar, de manera que represente visualmente el sentido teológico de la doble mesa de la Palabra y de la Eucaristía. Desde el ambón se proclaman las lecturas, el salmo responsorial y el pregón pascual; pueden hacerse también desde él la homilía y las intenciones de la oración universal.” Como un eco del capítulo 6 de San Juan, comprometámonos a una mejor participación en la liturgia.

The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose are sharing their im-

pressive and inspiring Religious Studies Library with local area par-ishes. The Library collection includes 20,000 books on Bible study, prayer, spirituality, liturgy, saints, ethics, social justice, ecotheology and environmental responsibility, theology and preaching. These are available to parish staff, parish volunteers and interested parishion-ers. Due to limited staffing, you need to call 510 933-6364 to make an appointment to visit the Library.
