8.0 GROUP COUNSELING BASIC GROUP COUNSELING McLeod , J (2007) Process of group intervention for a better self understanding and individual behaviour changes. Gazda, Duncan, & Meadow (1967) a process of dynamic individual who concern on their behaviour and thought consciously which depend on the environment and surrounding. +VE-VE

-provide a social atmosphere that is similar to the real world.- members can practice new behaviour- members can practice new interpersonal skills- cost effective- group help members to see they are not the one who has that particular problem.- group provide members with support. - less individualized attention from the counsellor- Confidentiality is more difficult to maintain- Concerns with conformity and peer pressure- Not everyone can be in a group- Misunderstanding may occur.

SELECTION OF GROUP MEMBERS1) Size depend on types of group and their age. 5 8 members

2) Frequency At least once a week based on the time table and agreement made.

3) Duration 50 to 60 minutes ( provide chances for pupils to voice out their idea and opinion) Can be done after school (to avoid pupils from being left behind)

4) Number of counselling session Depend on type of groups, groups needs, theoretical orientation facilitator and counselling.

5) Place Comfortable and interesting In school : counselling room Informal situation (relax and leisure)

6) Group composition Heterogen : difference in term of age, gender, personality, culture, socio-economic status, problem,etc Homogen : similar in many aspect. Age : difference of age among the members are not more than one year.
