By James Deegan Every Monday night I go to CoderDojo at the Quality Hotel. I entered the National Scratch Competition this year. My project is called “Wanazoozoo”. I made the game in Scratch. To play the game you have to press the arrow keys. You must catch 10 Violins in each level within 20 seconds. Otherwise you lose. Don't eat the bears or you

will lose points. Don't eat the stripy bears

or you will lose lives. They start to appear from Level 6. If you lose all lives before end of game you lose. You have 120 seconds to beat the game. I got picked out of hundreds of entries to get to the National Scratch Final. It is going to be on

next Wednesday 25th April at University of Limerick. I will get the day off school to go. You can play the game here - https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/203437663. I can’t wait. Wish me luck.

“Cent” boxes will continue this year. Ms. Karen O’Regan and Ryan, Cameron and Callum will be in charge of organis-ing the collection each week. Last year €1,193 was raised for Rapid Response. Ryan O’Leary, Cameron Rose and Callum Hurley will try and beat last year’s record as they are now in charge for the coming year. So far the boys have €626.15 collected. The money this year is being given to the Samburu Tribe / Thorntree Project (Butterfly Child).

On Tuesday 10th of April 2018, 6th class went for their first surfing lesson at Inchy-doney Beach. We first came up in cars who were driven by volunteering parents and teachers who were thankfully willing to give up their spare time to bring us down. When we arrived we were put into a single file line outside the Inchydoney Beach Hut and waited for an instructor called Brendan to ask us for our foot size. When we gave him our sizes he gave us pro-tective boots for surfing. Af-ter receiving them we went into the Hut and Colm

McAuley, another helpful instructor, gave us our wet-suits which was a hard job due to the fact that he had to estimate the size we would need. We then went to the rigorous task of putting on the wetsuits which in my opinion was far longer than I had anticipated. After finally putting the wet-suit and boots on we got to the fun parts! We got to de-cide our partners and we took two boards down at a time. When we reached the beach, we took an invigorating jog to warm up our bodies. We were taught about the different

parts of the surf board and Brendan gave us a small but helpful tip that if you stay to the tail of the board you would have a better chance of staying on the board and stay-ing on course. After all that we finally got submerged in the water and we took several attempts at standing on the board which most of us gladly managed. On behalf of the 6th Class Surfing Group, I would like to thank all the teachers and the parents who helped either organize the trip and/or bring us and I would also like to thank Ms Fitzmaurice for supervising us on the day. Last but by no accounts least,

I would like to thank Bren-dan, Colm and Liam for help-ing us. We hope to have more enjoyable sessions in our re-maining lessons. Charlie Cronin and Aleksei

On Friday the 27th of April it

was Culture Day in

4th class. Culture day was a

day where we talked about

our cultures and brought in

posters, food and items from

our different cultures.

I was in a group with Paddy

White and Aled Fin-

ney. Altogether there were

15 groups. My group did it

on Wales because Aled is

Welsh and Paddy’s granny

owns a B&B in Wales.

The other places were places

such as Russia, Guatemala,

France, Italy, America, Paki-

stan, Syria, Lithuania, Eng-

land, Poland, Australia and

Ireland. Third and second

class visited to view our pro-

jects. We had so much fun.
