THE PITTSTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS PLANNED THE FOLLOWING EVENT:Factors Leading to the American Civil War is the title of a talk to be given by Ken Miller on June20th at 7:30 PM at the Pittstown Town Hall in Tomhannock. Miller will outline the crescendo ofevents and compromises leading to the Civil War, examining how issues of the economy andslavery are intertwined. He will also discuss whether the Civil War was caused by economic orsocial pressures. Miller is a retired professor of chemistry from RPI. He is also is a trustee of thePittstown Historical Society and an accomplished wood and metal worker. In recent years, he haspursued interests in history. WHIPPLE CITY FESTIVAL- Come join us in Greenwich June 14 and 15 for the Whipple CityFestival. This year, the Whipple City Festival will feature living history demonstrations in Dorr Park.On Saturday June 15th there will be three regiments reenacting three different periods in history. The
nd Continental Artillery Regiment is a group of re-enactors from the Revolutionary War. A Cannonwill be on display as well as firearms from that period. Musket firings will take place at different times
uring the day and several campsites will be set for display with re-enactors in period dress. The25th NY Regiment Association will be representing the Civil War period. This living history groupepresents a typical military campsite of 1861 and is chartered with the NYS Education Department.
Tents and campsites will be set up. This group will have musket firings during the festival and woodenmuskets will be available for children to help the re-enactors do musket drills. The 99th InfantryDivision will be representing World War II. A field table, 4-5 pup tents, an ammo box as well as WWIIweapons will be on display. Also in Dorr Park will be The Greenwich Town Historian and the Willa rdMountain DAR and Northstar organization with information booths and items for sale. WWII on Saturday of the festiva l in Mowry Park. The Program entitled War Story- When its Over,Over there depicts a typical radio broadcast that would have been done during WWII It is completewith 1940s music, commercials and the reading of letters like those that might have been written byoldiers serving overseas. ORAL HISTORY PROJECT- The Warren County Historical Society will be conducting oralhistory interviews during the Rural Heritage Festival and Youth Fair at the Warren County Fair-grounds in Warrensburg, NY on August 10th. The Warren County Historical Society is searchingfor individuals who would like to participate and are specifically interest in talking with individu-
als who have some knowledge in three specific areas: World War II Memories: We are looking forindividuals who have memories of The Home Front during WWII (1941-45). Do you rememberPearl Harbor, D-Day, the elect ion of 1944, and FDRs death? Also do you remember V-E Day andV-J Day, rationing, victory gardens, movies, songs, etc.? Fairs in Warren County: We are interestedin talking with individuals who remember the various County Fairs in Warrensburg and perhapsother locations through the 1960s. Churches: We are looking for individuals who have an interestin the importance of churches in the development of a community. It would be especially interest-ing to learn why a particular congregation formed in a particular community, and what influence thepeople of the church had on the community, and the role of the church in creating a gathering placefor people to meet for social events. THURMAN STATION ASSOCIATION, INC., HOSTS THEFIRST OF TWO SHOWCASE EVENTS TO SPOTLIGHT
BUSINESSES, ORGANIZATIONS AND ARTISANS OFTHE TOWNS OF STONY CREEK, WARRENSBURG AND
THURMAN, in an effort to feature the three towns offerings asa combined attraction, and to draw attention to the potential of
the train as a way of travel out of area and a new market for those
conducting business or hosting events here. This first event, June
15, beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 1:30 p.m., has beendubbed the Showcase Preview Day, as 20 of the approximately
40 exhibitors registered for the second event will provide whatorganizers term an enticing Showcase sample to entertain visitors
and lure them back on July 27. On Saturday, both travelers and
local folks are invited to stop in at Thurman Station to enjoy The
String Dusters, with Bill Healy, Bert Wilson, Corey Hough and
Nick Barr, playing American acoustic mus ic that blends country,
bluegrass, and folk styles. Tent-covered exhibitors will offer talks,
demonstrations, free samples, activities for adults and children,
and information about organizations and events in the three
town area. There will be tickets for a timber frame garden shed
drawing, train whistles, face painting, a six- foot interactive river
model, history displays, intricate scale and half-scale rustic
furniture, original paintings of natural scenery, locally produced
cheeses and maple products, signed books, dowsing lessons,
educational owl talks, wooden home accessories, tales of the old
river drives and spinners turning fibers into yarn. The station
event welcomes visitors on their way to Thurman Old Home
Days at Veterans Memorial Field, where more music and activities
begin in early afternoon and climax with a fireworks display afterthe evening concert.The June exhibitors include Warren County
Historical Society, Graveled Surfaces Restoration, Martins
Lumber, Adirondack Rustic Miniatures, Hidden Hollow Maple
Farm, Adirondack Gold Maple Farm, Adirondack Spectral
Investigations, Warren County Soil and Water Conservation
District, John Thurman Historical Society, Wolf Pond Stables,
Moon Shadow Lodge, Adirondack Attitudes, Parasearch, Inc.,
Nancy Kimball, Hickory Ski Center, Fiction Among Friends, Milda
Burns, hosts Thurman Station Association, and The Serendipity
Spinners. Most will return on July 27, to be joined by about

WHIPPLE CITY FESTIVAL- Come join us in Greenwich June 14 and 15 forhe Whipple City Festival. This year, the Whipple City Festival will feature living
history demonstrations in Dorr Park. On Saturday June 15th there will be three
egiments reenacting three different periods in history. The 2nd Continental ArtilleryRegiment is a group of re-enactors from the Revolutionary War. A Cannon will beon display as well as firearms from that period. Musket firings will take place at
different times during the day and several campsites will be set for display with re-nactors in period dress. The 125th NY Regiment Association will be representinghe Civil War period. This living history group represents a typical military campsite
of 1861 and is chartered with the NYS Education Department. Tents and campsiteswill be set up. This group will have musket firings during the festival and woodenmuskets will be available for children to help the re-enactors do musket drills. The
99th Infantry Division will be representing World War II. A field table, 4-5 pup tents,n ammo box as well as WWII weapons will be on display. Also in Dorr Park will be
