All students working toward an Ontario Secondary School Diploma are required to

write the OSSLT in Grade 10.

Successful completion of the OSSLT is a graduation requirement. If you are not

successful you can write the test again or take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy

Course.

About the testAll grade 10 students (and second time

writers) will write the literacy test on Thursday March 26 @ 8:30 a.m.

You must pass the test in order to graduate

A 70% is required for a “pass” or Level 3 which is considered the provincial standard

If you do not pass the test you can re-write the test or take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course

About the test continuedThe OSSLT is a provincial test of literacy

(reading and writing) skills students have acquired by Grade 10. It is based on the literacy skills expected in The Ontario Curriculum across all subject areas up to the end of Grade 9.

You have 75 minutes for Booklet 1 and then you will have a 15 minute break

*English Language Learner Students and Special Education students are entitled to extra time. The times for these students will be different.

CAUTIONEQAO is an important assessment and ANY

evidence of academic dishonest (cheating) is taken very seriously by the school and by the Ministry of Education

EQAO looks for patterns of correct and incorrect answers- if your answers are very similar to another person it is possible that your results will be held back until an investigation is completed to determine if cheating occurred- don’t take any chances!

ResultsYour test is sent to the Ministry of Education’s EQAO office to be marked.

Your result should be included in your June report card.

Steps to Success1. Read all the instructions carefully. 2. Underline key words so that you are

clear on what is expected. 3. Answer all questions.4. Stay on topic for written answers.5. Write in complete sentences with correct

spelling, grammar and punctuation.6. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t

complete a question. Do your best and move on to another question.

You will not be allowed to ask any questions during the test.

Help SessionsHelp sessions will be offered starting

Tuesday March 10- March 25 in the Centennial Room during lunch and afterschool.

Come and ask questions, have teachers review your practice answers... Etc.

TEST DAYKnow your room location

Your room location will be on a personalized letter you will receive tomorrow

Test room locations will also be posted on the Literacy Board in front of the library.

Arrive to school by 8:00 am.Bring a pencil and pen. No white-out.Use the time provided. You cannot leave early.
