Principal’s Report

How cybersafe are you? Does your child have access to the internet at home? Do they have access via their phone? Are they allowed to search the internet freely without your supervision? This week all students, staff and attending parents participated in a cybersafe workshop delivered by Adjunct Professor Nigel Phair of the Institute for Cyber Stafety. It is of vital importance that we teach our children about impacts of being cybersafe and responsible participants in the online environment.

This is a very real and current issue with so many young and vulnerable people having access to devices and Internet access. This involves social media as well. There are many age restrictions on certain Apps and social media sites. Parents need to be aware of these. They exist for a reason. Many of these software packages are trackable and without appropriate settings being applied, locations are easily visible. Here a few of the available sites and their current age limits: Snapchat – 12 years Instagram – 12 years Facebook – 13 years Cybersafety is a real issue. Apart from perpetrators, there are also so many examples of cyberbullying that students need to be aware of. There are potential dangers of using such software and communications. We often talk to children about stranger danger…what about cyber stranger danger? As a school, we are committed to educating and promoting safe online practices helping students understand they must conduct themselves in a safe, positive and respectful manner at all times online - as they are expected to do in person. As a parent you have a significant role to play in educating, modelling and policing online behaviour and activity. And most importantly be proactive and educated on the ever evolving cyberworld. Abby B

Abby is known as a kind, responsible and exemplary student who demonstrates an outstanding work ethic. She consistently and enthusiastically displays the school values in her communication with others and encourages her peers to do the same. Abby adopts initiative and a sense of responsibility with her fellow class members and leads by example. She demonstrates 'kindness on purpose' at every opportunity

and is always the first to volunteer to assist others.

ACT State Interschool’s Equestrian Championship Competition

A team of 12 students ranging from Kinder to Year 6 proudly represented Sutton Public School in the 2018 ACT State

Interschool’s Equestrian Championships from the 1st to the 4th of November at the Bungendore showgrounds.

Our team was made up with the following students; Ryan B, Jack M, Gabrielle D, Sarah Cr, Kayla B, Charlotte A, Jessica,

Alistair M, Zahra R, Mia, Ricki M and Tom M. We had a massive but fantastic couple of days entering in a range of events from

Dressage, Jumping, Sporting and Show Riding.

We had a team of four enter an event where they had to ride in unison. They did an amazing job and won 1st place up against 6

other teams consisting of high school and college students. Many of our students placed well in dressage, jumping, sporting

and show riding. Our students made it to championship rounds, bringing home champion and reserve champion placings. A

number of students also took home champion and reserve champion placings for their overall point scores within their years.

We also entered the team fancy dress competition with our “Sutton Super Heroes” and came home with 1st place for that one as

well. Each and every team member did an amazing job and brought home many ribbons, trophies and trophy rugs over the

course of the event and racked up some incredible points for Sutton.

We are extremely proud to announce that our team took Sutton Public School to the top and we won the title of ACT State

Interschool’s Equestrian Champions for 2018.

We congratulate each and every rider as your individual point scores and brilliant riding is how we took out the title. We had a

fantastic couple of days and absolutely loved watching you all. We couldn’t be any prouder to be a part of such an amazing

team and event. The sportsmanship of our students was outstanding and something our school and community should be very

proud of. Our school colours were worn with pride (even by our ponies/horses) and you all looked amazing.

Rostrum/CWA Talkfest 2018

The fear of public speaking is incredibly common, which means that only a handful of students in any given classroom will feel

comfortable enough to voice their true opinions, let alone give a full-scale persuasive speech. But as the world becomes

increasingly more complex, students who develop their public speaking skills will find there are many benefits in doing so

including overcoming fear, improving listening skills and developing the courage to express opinions.

Students from Year 2 - 6 took part in the CWA/Rostrum Talkfest at Berinba Public School last week. Sutton Public School has

supported this event for many years now and our children enjoy the experience. Sutton Public School has been recognised for

our commitment and even awarded the best attendance for 2018! Our future looks bright in the field of Public Speaking!!

Congratulations to Lily W, Jack D, Comet R, Nalda B, Selena T, Archie D, Ruby-Rose P, Danijela E, Isla D, Abbey B,

Sebasitan K, Jessica M and Nick K. We are proud of you for preparing, practicing, participating and representing our school so

well. Many thanks also to their parents for encouraging and supporting their children to take part.

Remembrance Day Assembly

In recognition of the Centenary of Armistice 2018,

our school held a special assembly today in the

school hall. We gratefully acknowledge the support

of our special guests Brigadier Mason, Lieutenant

Commander Mary Louise Ganter, Wing

Commander Peter Ibbotson and Karen Guseli.

We also thank our students Zara, Thomas and

Hamish for leading the assembly.

Students and their families are welcome to attend

the Sutton commemorative service to be held at

3pm on Sunday 11th November at the school

gates.

Voluntary School Contributions

Voluntary family contributions have been set for this year at $100 for one child and

$130 for multiple children attending the school. School contributions are voluntary -

not compulsory. Payment is a matter for decision by parents and the school will

ensure the confidentiality of all matters dealing with the collection of contributions. If

you would like further information, or would like to discuss this, please do not

hesitate to contact the Principal. We are most grateful for your support.

Payments can be made online. In “Payment Options” please select “Voluntary School

Contributions”. Cash payments and EFTPOS can be made at the school office.
