Cancellation PolicyASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy reserve the right to cancel a course should the number of bookings fall below the minimum number of delegates required per event or due to instructor availability due to unforeseen circumstances. Details of minimum numbers of delegates required can be found in each course descriptor. In the event of ASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy cancelling a course, liability will be limited to the refund of the course fee only, if paid.

Cancellation FeeNo cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations received more than 10 working days before the commencement of a course.

Notification 10 working days or less prior to the commencement of the course will result in a cancellation fee of the full course price being charged unless a substitute delegate can be provided or the original delegate transferred to an alternative date. Any course fees already paid shall be retained and allocated to the new delegate or transferred to the new course date as appropriate. Please note that the option to transfer delegates to an alternative date is restricted to one move per delegate and any subsequent cancellation request will result in the full course price being charged. We reserve the right to not accept a transfer of a booking if the request is made 24 hours prior to the commencement of the course.

Should your cancellation take the number of delegates attending the course below minimum numbers you will not be given the opportunity to transfer the delegate and will be required to pay the full cost for that delegate.

Please note cancellations involving the following courses:

Which result in the cancellation of the total course event will result in the full charge per delegate to cover operational costs incurred due to the cancelled course – Role players, Assessors, Emergency response suite booked for the course and two teaching staff.

Please note: These terms prevail over any other general terms and conditions which the customer seeks to impose or incorporate (such as by reference in proposals or in a customer purchase order, or by trade, custom, practice or course of dealing). For the avoidance of any doubt, provision of services to the customer does not constitute acceptance of any of such customer terms and conditions and does not serve to modify or amend these terms. In the event of any conflict between these terms and the order confirmation, these terms shall prevail.

Limitation of Admission to CoursesASET reserves the right to refuse admission to any course because of restricted availability of facilities due to accommodation or teaching requirements, suitability of candidate, or for any other reason which ASET deems it necessary to do so at ASET’s sole discretion. All admission to courses is ultimately at the sole discretion of the ASET Chief Executive. Bookings accepted may be subsequently cancelled as a result of this policy and course fees.

Introduction

History Aberdeen Skills & Enterprise Training was incorporated as a Private Limited Company and registered at Companies House in April 1993.

Since its inception, ASET has been delivering competence based training. The company developed the first dedicated Hazardous Area Training Centre in the world (1991) and is still the world leader in this provision. The Marine Department Centre was the first Nautical Institute Dynamic Positioning Approved Centre anywhere in the world (1984) and is the only training centre recognized by the International Association of Drilling contractors for Stability and Semi-Submersible and Jack-Up training (1987).

Following negotiations, the then Aberdeen College and ASET acquired the Shell Operations training facility in February 2000, together with the training equipment. Since then ASET has delivered Production and Maintenance training to the majority of the world leading oil majors and contractors.

ASET has developed and grown significantly, in particular over the past four years. On 7th March 2012 ASET held the official opening of its new International Oil & Gas Training Academy, which is arguably one of the finest training facilities for Oil and Gas Technicians anywhere in the world.

GovernanceAberdeen Skills and Enterprise Training Ltd (ASET) trading as ASET International Oil & Gas Training Academy is a wholly-owned subsidiary company of North East Scotland College (NESCol), formerly Aberdeen College. ASET specialises in the provision of education and training in the oil and gas industries in Process, Maintenance Engineering, Hazardous Areas, Emergency Response and Marine, which includes DP and Stability. ASET remits all revenue surplus to North East Scotland College (NESCol) and does not retain any cash or profit.

The relationship between the Board of Management of NESCol and ASET is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Board of Directors of ASET consists of five Directors, the majority of whom, including the Chairman, must be members of the College Board of Management. The Chief Executive of ASET is also an Executive Director on the ASET Board.

ASET Instructors ASET training instructors have vast work experience, the majority coming from both upstream and downstream oil and gas industries. Related industry experience ranges from Oil & Gas Technicians, Control Room Operators and Offshore Installation Managers. Instructors knowledge and experience increases the quality and credibility of training delivered by the ASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy.

OGTAP Modern Apprenticeship SchemeFor over 20 years North East Scotland College (formerly Aberdeen College) and ASET have delivered the oil and gas industry Modern Apprenticeship Scheme on behalf of the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO).

ASET offer a wide range of Competence based training and assessment programmes to meet the North Sea, UK Continental Shelf and Overseas Oil and Gas markets. This includes SVQ/NVQ Oil and Gas Technician Training Programmes and over 60 ASET short technical courses which can be customized and tailored specifically to meet individual Client needs.

Academy UNIQUE Facilities and Technology The Academy has a range of market leading technology and equipment which includes the fully functional ABCOL Oil & Gas Production Training Platform and Delta V Control System; most up to date HV/LV switchgear; Hazardous Area Ex Centre; Emergency Response Training Department; Marine Operations, Dynamic Positioning and Semi Submersible and Jack-up Training Motion Simulator – ensuring that delegates are trained and develop new skills in a realistic but safe environment. ‘Reality without the risk’.

City & Guilds Credit Rated and Levelled CoursesASET’s exclusive range of City & Guilds credit rated and levelled Oil and Gas short courses allow delegates attending these courses the opportunity to demonstrate their ongoing professional development. This exclusive range of courses are not only recognised within the SCQF framework but also provide the building blocks to enhance existing qualifications and provide a road map to further modes of study.

The advantages of having a qualification placed in the SCQF are that learners, employers, receiving institutions, awarding bodies, Sector Skills Councils and standard setting organisations (SSOs) etc can see the level of skills being developed by the learner or employee and how the qualification relates to other qualifications and learning programmes in Scotland and other credit frameworks in the United Kingdom and Europe. It can also help when selecting relevant training options and identifying development paths and progression routes.

The SCQF uses two measures to describe qualifications and learning programmes: ‘level’ and ‘credit’. The term ‘credit rating’ encompasses both the allocation of SCQF level and the calculation of SCQF credit points.

Qualifications can be added to the SCQF provided they meet the following criteria from the SCQF Partnership:

> They must be outcome-based, ie must contain statements of knowledge, skills, values or competence that are capable of being measured at the end of a process of learning (based on learning outcomes)

> They should be capable of being assessed, ie there must be a robust, effective system of assessing that the outcomes have been achieved (These outcomes must be recorded.)

> They are subject to external quality assurance, ie must have a documented process of external quality assurance for the assessment of the learning outcomes

> They must consist of a minimum of 10 hours of notional learning time.

City & Guilds Exclusive 9841 Competence Based Short Course PortfolioAll ASET courses are based on competence based training and assessment. Courses are designed to ensure delegates gain knowledge, know-how and understanding as well as practical skills during the course guaranteeing employers that learning and skills are directly related to the work environment and job roles within their organization. Courses are governed and verified through our exclusive City & Guilds 9841 quality assurance management and certification.

ECITB Technical Tests ASET offer a range of ECITB Technical Tests for Onshore and Offshore personnel involved in installation, maintenance and inspection of Instrumentation, Electrical & Mechanical technology and Equipment.

Here’s How Technical Tests WorkThe first part of a Technical Test examines the individual’s specific job knowledge. Only once that has been successfully concluded, can the practical task-based part of the test go ahead. This focuses not merely on the technical skill being tested, but on the ability to apply that skill safely and efficiently in the operational environment. The outcome of both parts proves whether the candidate’s current skills and knowledge are up to the job in question.

Technical Tests – The Five Stage Process

Enrolment:An examiner (occupationally competent and specifically trained) enrols the candidate at the ASET ECITB – approved Test Centre to do a specific, named test (or tests) eg ‘Mechanical Joint Integrity - TMJI10 Dismantle, Assemble and Hand Torque Flanged Joints (Dismantle, inspect, prepare, assemble and secure flanged pipework joint)’.

Knowledge Test:On the day, responding to randomly generated, multiple-choice, online questioning, the candidate’s knowledge of this area of work is rapidly and efficiently tested. Depending on the results they either pass on to the Practical Test, or are referred for training.

Practical Test:Candidates undertake a highly specified practical assessment in prescribed stages, under observation. Each part of the task must be completed to the required standard. From tools to timing, from process to protective equipment, the Technical Test allows no room for error.

Feedback:Constructive feedback from the examiner to the candidate is an important part of the Technical Test process.

CertificateAwarded:If successful against the specified criteria ASET will issue an ECITB Certificate of Achievement, validating for three years the candidates knowledge, skill and ability to perform the task in question.

The platform is a live integrated training platform replicating the offshore oil and gas process production and maintenance operations which allows ASET to take production and maintenance technicians to a highly competent level in a real working environment.

At the heart of the new control system is the latest release of the Emerson Delta Systems V Distributed Control System (DCS) with Hart fieldbus and Hart wireless instrumentation. The plant has also retained legacy 4-20mA analogue and pneumatic technology enabling delegates to experience the full range of technology current in Oil and Gas and Chemical industries.

The fire and Gas system is controlled by Invensys Triconex Trident plc controlling Combustible and Toxic gas detectors with infra-red and ultra violet technology, heat and smoke detectors, manual alarm calls, all linked to the plant deluge system.

ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS

Instrumentation WorkshopThe instrument workshop at ASET International Oil & Gas Training Academy has a range of test stations and test equipment de-signed to facilitate the testing of modern process instrumentation including:

> Pneumatic and electronic Smart and Wireless transmitters. > Beamex CMS 100 units supply the power and air with separate 0 – 30 Volt DC power supplies for greater versatility.

> Hart and Fieldbus level, pressure and temperature transmitters are available for demonstration with dedicated level simulation skids for differential pressure, displacer and Vega capacitance level switch.

> PLC systems can be build and tested in the workshop with software written by the delegates.

Mechanical WorkshopsThe mechanical workshop is a multi functional area covering many aspects of mechanical engineering. It has a whole area to strip and overhaul various types of valve (gate, globe, ball, relief), and to hydrostatically test them on our valve pressure test rig. It also contains a dedicated area for mechanical joint integrity where process pipework can be dismantled, cleaned and inspected and reassembled. This includes the use of hand torque wrenches, hydraulic torque wrenches and hydraulic bolt tensioners. The pipework can also be hydrostatically pressure tested, while a separate dedicated area is used to carry out pneumatic pressure testing using both mechanical and digital chart recorders to record the results. The workshop also contains several types of equipment for mechanical maintenance including centrifugal pumps, screw, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, gearboxes, heat exchangers and diesel engines.

A separate area is used for teaching hydraulics with modern test rigs for building hydraulic circuits. Steel pipework can be bent and shaped and assembled using screwed fittings and copper pipe can be bent and shaped as well as being able to swage and solder it together. Small bore tubing is catered for in terms of cutting, bending and assembling using mechanical grip twin ferrules. Pump and motor sets are used to teach alignment using both reverse periphery and laser alignment techniques.

Electrical Workshops Altens:Our Altens campus has two workshops which consist of the following:

> 6 work bays each has a three phase supply feeding a permanently mounted busbar distribution system which in turn sup-plies various lighting circuit types.

> 7 x 2 person work bays. Each work bay has a 415V, 220V & 110V supply. This workshop is used for installing electrical tasks

Course Aims To provide knowledge of shaft drive coupling methods and the associated problems caused by misalignment conditions, how these problems are mitigated by design and reliably accurate alignment techniques. Delegates will obtain the necessary skills to carry out full alignment of a single driver/driven unit using reverse periphery (with dial indicators) and laser optic alignment techniques, making allowances for thermal & dynamic growth of casings.

About this Course

Target Audience This course is aimed at potential Control Room Operators. The training and assessment uses a generic control room and oil and gas process operations to assess, over a 3 day period, the aptitude of personnel to take on Control Room Operators responsibilities, and later go on to be assessed to the OPITO standard for control room operators dealing with Emergency situations.It is recommended that a period of six months exists between this training and the OPITO Assessment.


Course Aims To provide an opportunity for technician personnel to demonstrate their aptitude for centralised control of production operations, and to provide feedback to the sponsoring company. On completion of the course of training and assessment, the sponsoring company is presented with an individual profile of the delegate, from which determination can be made as to the suitability or otherwise of the delegate to undertake a production operations Control Room Operator role.

Course Content The training commences with an introduction to and familiarity with oil and gas processing and using distributed control systems from within a centralised control room environment.

This moves on to an assessment of the delegates in the following areas:

Target Audience Personnel who have completed the requirements of Stability 1 and 2 for the training for Ballast Control Operators.


Course Aims To provide training in the handling of Ballast Control operations in simulated, normal and emergency situations.

Course Content Comprehensive stability instruction utilizing full-motion simulators to replicate extreme wind and sea conditions and emergency situations. The course covers:

Construction Industry Scaffolders’ Record Scheme (CISRS)ASET International Oil and Gas Training Academy is an accredited training provider of the Construction Industry Scaffolders’ Record Scheme (CISRS). It is managed by employer and employee representatives who collectively set and agree the minimum standards of training and performance that an individual requires to qualify as a scaffolder.

The Record Scheme ensures that operatives are trained to prescribed levels before they can work unsupervised. It also ensures operatives are paid at the appropriate rate.

The Record Scheme for scaffolders is aligned with Vocational Qualifications. All trainee scaffolders need to achieve Level 2 before a Scaffolding Card can be issued, and Level 3 before an Advanced Card can be issued.

The Part 1 and Part 2 courses have been revised in recent years to allow a natural progression to achieve the full NVQ/SVQ.

Route to achieving a Scaffolding CardThe route to achieving full scaffolder status is illustrated in the flowchart on the page opposite.

The scheme requires that individuals have six months’ experience as a trainee scaffolder and have held the CISRS COTS card for six months’ before they attend the Part 1 course. They are then required to have a minimum of six months’ experience on site before attending the Part 2 course.

An individual is a trainee scaffolder until they have completed Part 1 and Part 2 courses, completed a Level 2 NVQ/SVQ in Access & Rigging/ CISRS Skills Test and passed CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test.

Target Audience This course is for new entrant/operatives. Existing CISRS Scaffolding Labourer cardholders also need to complete the course once their current card expires, before being issued a new card, as part of CISRS scheme requirements.

Course Aims This course has been developed to teach all new entrants and labourers the basics of the industry and how to work safely with scaffolding and access equipment. It will also ensure that existing operatives are up to date, as scaffolding labourers will need to repeat the course every five years before renewing their card.
