Throughout history, alcohol has been used socially for many diverse purposes, such as calming feuds, giving courage in battle, sealing pacts, celebrating festivals, seducing lovers, etc.

That’s history. For me, and for many like me, who enjoy a permanent love affair with their ‘glass’, a drink is a nice way to relax. And, it’s definitely one of the best ways to get to know people. It is also one of the best ways (and I am sure many would agree) to patch up after a quarrel. People resort to drinks for emboldened declarations, be it declarations of love or a raise in pay.

Trying to categorize Kathmandu’s bar scene is like attempting to summarize the universe in a word. The city has a bar for every taste and most desires, whether you’re looking for music, a romantic date spot, a throw-down party, a gritty look at local life or a perfectly mixed craft cocktail.

It’s a pleasure to bring to you a collection of the city’s best watering holes. The list may not be exhaustive but it should help when you’re trying to find a good place to relax with family and/or friends. We hope that with our easy-to-refer listings you’ll find the bar of your choice time and time again.

PREPARATIONPour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.Shake wellStrain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange slice.

Blood and Sand

INGREDIENTS15 ml Vodka5 ml Spiced Rum60 ml

Spiceeee Apple Juice

5 ml Sugar SyrupCinnamon for garnish

PREPARATIONAdd Vodka, rum, apple juice and sugar syrup into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a half tsp of cinnamon power.

Apple Cin


INGREDIENTS 45 ml White Rum2 Tbsp cream of coconut60 ml

p creeeeeeeee pineapple juice

1 Tbsp vanilla ice cream5 Cubes of icePineapple chunk for garnish

PREPARATIONPour the ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a Collins glass. Garnish with a chunk of pineapple or maraschino cherry.

Hawaiian Colada


INGREDIENTS 30 ml vodka5 ml Cointreau5 ml

Coiiinnnn fresh lime juice

60 ml ffffffffff cranberry juice

Orange peel for garnish

PREPARATIONShake all the ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel. Optionally, use citron vodka in place of unflavored vodka for a fruitier taste.

INGREDIENTS 45 ml Gin90 ml

Gin cranberry juice

1 tsp lemon juiceClub sodaFresh Lemon Slice for garnish

PREPARATIONPour the gin and juices into a collins glass filled with ice. Stir. Top with club soda.

NGGR orange juice30 ml tequila

5 ml grenadineOrange slice for garnish

PREPARATIONPour the tequila and the orange juice into a high-ball glass with ice cubes.

Orange juice to topDash of gin (10 ml)

PREPARATIONPour the vodka, Cointreau and sloe gin into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with orange juice. Stir well.
