CD Cover Analysis

Page 2: Cd cover analysis media studies

In this CD cover there is a picture of eminem walking on the road. This is used to represents that he is on the road back to recovery which ties in with the title “RECOVERY” .

The calm in the back ground are used to make you focus on the bold suttel blue and black colors in the fore ground. It is also used to represent that Eminem has a long way to go on his road to recovery.

The red cross that represents a medical sign. Tying in with the title called recovery might mean that he is recovering medically from something like a drug edition.

Page 3: Cd cover analysis media studies

The spine is plane white with bold black text making the title stand out. The artists name is in brackets so that if some one is looking for the album on a shelf and the CD’s are stacked side ways then the can still see and know what album they are picking out.

A bar code is used so that a shop can scan in the product and every official CD cover has one.

The picture represents that maybe he is sat in his house and because he is so messed up that all these images are flashing round him and could represent that he is hallucinating because of taking drugs. The images are blured to show that they are flashbacks and that he has not just set a front run up in town.

The name of each song is in capital white text to make it sand out. The song numbers are in red and not really easily seen because e they are not as important as the song they are numbering.

Page 4: Cd cover analysis media studies

The title is in quite a boring font but gives the title a jungle feel. The Name of the Album is in a smaller sized font but is the same as the title of the groups name. the Both sets of text are in white which stands out from the black background.

All the characters on the cover are all made to look like cartoon gorillas because of there jaw line and noses.

All the Characters are in a different colour to signify that they are all different and that they are a multi racial group.

Each band member is in a separate white box but are at equal height to represent that they are all equal of importance in the band.

Page 5: Cd cover analysis media studies

The song titles are all in black bold text so that the each title stands out from the white background. Non of the sons are numbered to show that they are all equal in importance.

The image of the guitarist in the fore ground and the rest of the group in the back ground goes against every thing that the rest of the cover represents. It shows that the guitarist is separate to the group and that he is more important than the other group because he is in bright colours and the rest of the band is dull and boring.

The monkey looks like he is mocking the guitarist because he is on his own.

Page 6: Cd cover analysis media studies

The image is a painting of a women and her french army fighting in a war. The image of the women leading the army from the front goes against any old views that women where not equal to men and that they should not be involved in war but should be confined to domesticity. This image goes against a lot of thing not only that women where in the war and leading from the front it also suggests that france is a powerful country with an unbeatable army of people.

The title is careless and is just splattered over the image like graffiti like the person who did this doesn’t agree with the image.

Page 7: Cd cover analysis media studies

The side cover is quite dull and boring. It contains a black background to match the back cover and the name of the album is in white text. This stands out from the black background. A definition of “ Viva La Vida” is used to inform people who don’t all ready know what the phrase means. The bar code is placed at the bottom centre

of the page to fill up the empty bottom of the cover witch looks quite poor.

The song titles are in a grey/brown colour and don’t standout as much as the white text this gives conitations that the songs are quite dark as the albums name is death.

Page 8: Cd cover analysis media studies

The album cover has a dark background so bright colours like red, white and yellow are used to stand out. The image in the centre of the album cover is quite strange and doesn’t really imitate the name of the album “elephant” thinking that there would be one cool angry elephant on there.

The coloure theme thought the front and back cover is constant as the background is black to match their hair. And the colours of the text to match the colour of the cloths they are wearing.

The name of the white strips web site where to can purchase the CD and merchandise.

Page 9: Cd cover analysis media studies

The title of the album is in big, bold text with the “e” coloured in red. Also the 3’s are in red all to represent the e for elephant.

All the tracks are numbered and the one’s that are live performances have the location and date when they where performed.

The spine of the CD is in red, black and white which stand out from the crowd when on a CD rack.

The text telling people are crammed in the bottom of the CD back cover informing people who wrote the songs and music. The bar code is in the right hand corner and isn’t used to fill the space.

Page 10: Cd cover analysis media studies

The title of the group is in 3d with the ‘M’ and the ‘A’ capping of the end’s of the name which gives the title a more rocky feel. It is placed at the to of the CD as it is the most important peace of text on the CD cover

The name of the album is “ master of puppets”. The image on the front of the cover represents the name of the album. There are to hands at the top of the cover with strings hanging down to the grave stones as if that person is in charge of the people who are underneath.

All the colours used on the front cover are bright so they stand out from all the other dull and boring CD covers on the shelf in the shops.

Page 11: Cd cover analysis media studies

The name of the band is in the same text, size, font and style as on the front cover. The name of the album is also the same apart from the colour but this time both titles are together with the letter ‘M’ and ‘A; looking like they are presenting the name of the album.

Un like any of the other CD cocers I have looked at the bar code is in the top corner of the cover and might be used to even out the sides of the cover as there is a box on the other side . Make the cover more symmetric.

The tracks are numbered and have the timings in brackets at the side allowing the person viewing the back cover how long each song lasts for.

Page 12: Cd cover analysis media studies

The name of the band is in black bold lettering so people firstly see that the album is by Nickleback. The name of the album is then in smaller white text as it seams that the name of the album is less important that the band that made it.

The image is faded ether side of the car to make it look like there is only one road and that they are on it. Coming from the sun set.

The colours are and contrast with each other to make it look like the CD is dead calm but then we see this big head turning gangster car which makes who ever is in it look bad ass and cool.

Page 13: Cd cover analysis media studies

The spine of the CD is quite bold and simple with the name of the band and album being the same as on the front cover.

The image is set out to make this bad ass bad stand out in this calm pictures place and contrasts.

The name of the tracks are numbered with all the names of the songs in different sized text. With the biggest and most important tracks being in big bold text.

I think the layout of the image and the text is the best out of all the CD covers I have analyzed.
