Getting Tested For COVID-19

3

Walking Or Driving To A Test SiteI might walk or drive to a testing site. There might be a line. That is because a lot of people have been sick with Coronavirus and need testing.

4

Wearing Protective GearThe nurses will be wearing protective gear like masks, gloves, visors, or even special jumpsuits. This is to prevent them from getting the virus and also to help prevent them from giving it to other people.

5

Checking My TemperatureA nurse will walk up to me or come to the car and check my temperature. If I do not have a mask or face covering, the nurse will give me one. This is to help prevent germs from spreading.

6

Swabbing My NoseThe nurse will put a swab up my nose for a several seconds. It may feel uncomfortable but it is very important to stay still so that the test can be done.

7

Swabbing My ThroatThe nurse will then put a swab in the back of my throat. It is important that the swab not touch my lips, tongue, top of my mouth, or teeth. If I open my mouth wide and stick out my tongue as far as I can, the nurse will be able to get a good sample for the test. This can be uncomfortable but it is important that the test be done.

8

Thanking The NurseEvery day, the nurses doing the testing are providing an important service to the community. When people are helpful, they appreciate being thanked. I can thank the nurses too!

9

After The TestAfter the test is done, I can go home. The results can take a few days to come back.

10

Wearing A MaskWhile I wait, I should rest at home. I should be careful to wear a mask around other people so that I do not get them sick.

11

How My Body FeelsI should think about how my body feels so that I know if I am getting sicker and need to call the doctor again.
