Dear Dr. Feigenbaum:

You are no doubt aware of conversations I have had with your secretaryEllie regarding your participation as keynote speaker at Keystone VII onAugust 7, 1984. I have taken the liberty of enclosing some promotionalmaterial which was generated for Keystone VI last year.

The Keystone Conference Series is an assemblage of individuals involved inthe newly emerging field of AM/FM (Automated Mapping/Facilities Manage-ment). Unlike CADD/CAM, AM/FM relies heavily on the ability of a system tohandle massive files of text, linked to every element of each graphic fea-ture. The most successful producers of these systems to date are Synercomof Houston, Texas and Intergraph of Huntsville, Alabama. The CADD manufac-turers are all actively pursuing the discipline, and breakthroughs in thetechnology (optical discs, etc.) are advancing applications at a briskpace.

Based on last years attendance and the overwhelming favorable reaction ofthe participants we are projecting a record attendance of some 500 regis-trants. We expect 60% of these to be "users" (municipal and utility com-pany management and operative people). The remaining 40% will probably beevenly divided between vendors (IBM, Synercom, Intergraph, Computer Vision,Calma, etc.) and service companys (consultants and data conversion firms).

At the last meeting of our conference committee a budget was established asa means to enable us to implement plans for this years activities. Havingread your book "The Fifth Generation", my feeling is that the audience atKeystone VII would have much to gain by a first hand exposure to your know-ledge and expertise.

There is of course the matter of fee. I regret that we are unable to meetyour stated fee requirements. I have been authorized on behalf AM/FMInternational (a non-profit educational organization) to make the followingoffer; a fee of $5,000.00 plus first class accommodations. I sincerelyhope that you will consider this offer. We are desirous of convening aconference that maintains the highest standards of professionalism, in-as-much as we are dealing in an area of practice whi<^£yjg|is.fyg7|r) is at theleading edge of computer technology.
