CPRI PROFILE
ABOUT THE TUTORIAL
Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) is an autonomous society under Ministry of Power,
Government of India. CPRI functions as a National Centre for applied research in electrical power
engineering and as an independent authority for testing and certification of power equipment. The
Institute has several research laboratories and testing facilities engaged in different specialized
fields. It has at present about 250 Engineers and Scientists besides other supporting staff to guide
and maintain various operations of the Institute. The main setup of the Institute is at Bangalore
and its Units are situated in Bhopal, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Noida, Kolkata and Guwahati.
Over the years, CPRI has built up expertise in the areas of transmission and distribution systems,
Power Quality, Energy Metering, Energy Auditing, Transmission Line Tower Design, Conductor
Vibration Studies, Power Systems Instrumentation, Transformer oil Testing, Diagnostic, Condition
Monitoring and Estimation of Remaining Life of Equipment, New Materials for Power System
Applications, UHV testing, Short Circuit Testing, HV testing and other related fields. The Institute
has set up and commissioned the state of art Seismic testing facility and a Real Time Digital
Simulation facility. CPRI offers consultancy services in these areas also.
Dielectric Materials Division (DMD) of CPRI is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for testing of
transformer oils, Lubricating oils & other allied products as per National and International
standards.
Power transformers are vital links in the power system network. These costly systems have to
function for long periods without any problems. Any failure of these components will lead to
serious consequential losses. Condition monitoring of these equipments is essential and important
to have reliable power system network. Condition monitoring and condition assessment of the
transformer can be done by monitoring the various properties of oils.
This tutorial is organized mainly to give an elaborate coverage of IS: 1866, IEC 60422 & IEC 60599
and to give electrical maintenance engineer an in-depth understanding of maintenance of
transformer and transformer oil. The programme consists of lectures by experts of CPRI. This
tutorial is planned to disseminate the knowledge, expertise and experience on testing of
transformer oils and significance of DGA as diagnostic tool in preventive, predictive and corrective
maintenance of transformers.
vElectrical maintenance staff / engineers / executives responsible for maintenance of power
equipments.
vService providers for maintenance of power equipments.
vPower equipment inspecting authorities and manufacturing staff.
WHO MAY ATTEND
To familiarize engineers with all aspects of transformer oil maintenance.
vEvaluation of used and in-service transformer oils.
vAssessment of condition of oil for continued use.
vAssessment / monitoring of transformer internal condition by dissolved gas analysis (DGA).
vDiagnostic tests of Transformer
