Each program within the Lutheran Social Services Network of Hope is unique and diverse — serving a different function in achieving our mission of creating a better world by serving people in need. And because they are supported by the LSS economic engines*, you can be assured that your donated dollars are going directly to helping your neighbors and community.

  • YOUR SUPPORT HAS MADE THESE SERVICES POSSIBLE

Online convenience for food pantry clientsOur food pantries transitioned to a new model where clients order shelf-stable items through our online ordering system or by calling a toll-free number. Like any innovation, lessons were learned and adjustments were made, and we are now holding indoor distributions at two permanent sites. With these updates, clients now wait less than 30 minutes to receive their order rather than up to two hours under the former system, which dignifies and honors the valuable time of our clients.

The Health Center at Faith Mission expands servicesThe Health Center at Faith Mission continues to expand services and increase the number of patients seen. During this fiscal year, addiction recovery counseling and support services, tobacco cessation support, and a clinical pharmacy were added.

CHOICES new shelterConstruction started on the new 120-bed LSS CHOICES domestic violence shelter. This shelter will replace our current undersized and dated shelter, with only 51 beds yet an average daily census of 71, and provide safety and healing to victims and their children who are escaping an abuser. The building construction is on schedule with a completion date of the end of 2018.

LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence is the only domestic violence safe haven shelter in Franklin County, offering 51 beds, a 24-hour crisis and information hotline, counseling services, support groups and legal and community advocates for those impacted by domestic violence. CHOICES staff and trained volunteers also conduct domestic violence awareness and prevention outreach throughout our community.

“I know where I’d be without CHOICES. I’d still be in this abusive relationship and my children would end up learning these abusive behaviors. I’m just eternally grateful. Thank you is not big enough.” INEZ, CHOICES client

  • LSS FOOD PANTRIES

    creating strength

The LSS Food Pantries serve people in need by offering a source of nourishment to families who are hungry. Through our new innovative online ordering system and multiple mobile pantry and produce distributions, we’re enabling clients in 12 counties around Ohio to focus on other important aspects of life, like paying bills or finding employment. We do so by removing the immediate concern of hunger in a way that honors our clients’ dignity, offers hope and makes nutritious food more readily available to families and individuals who need it.

“The hardest part is when someone you love says they’re hungry, and you don’t have anything in your kitchen to cook them to eat. That feeling right there just kind of crushes your bones. I can survive, but I may need the help with the children, and that’s my main reason for me really coming to the pantry.”PAUL, LSS Food Pantries client

For more than 100 years, Lutheran Social Services (LSS) has provided people in need with the most basic of human needs: food, shelter, safety and healing. As communities have changed over time, LSS has evolved its services to meet the needs of the people we serve, and in doing so, grown into one of the largest nonprofits in central Ohio. Through our Network of Hope services and programs, we’ll continue to create an impact that respects the dignity of our clients and honors the kindness of donors and volunteers.
