Program: Coffee Making

Summary: The aim of this program is to develop a learning program on coffee making. It is a 6 week program aligned to a training package.

Components/sequencing: 1. Types of coffee2. Using Coffee machine My Coffee3. How to make a long black, short black, latte and cappuccino4. How do you judge a good cup of coffee

Context: Learners:

students need this qualification to maintain their positions in a chain of coffee shops across the Sydney Region

the course is mapped to a Skillset 1234 Making Coffee from a National Training Package

needs to be delivered flexibly because they are working

nominal 50 hours

have access to a computer in the workplace and the company is prepared to give them time during work hours to complete the course

after speaking to the Human Resource Manager you are given a profile of the studentso come from a wide range of educational backgroundso 60% speak another language other than Englisho Have quite good technology skills as they are used as

part of their work i.e personal digital device to take orders, online ordering, communication within the company via a blog and SharePoint site

Individual research on the components of MyCoffee.

Workplace demonstration by teacher on the use of MyCoffee (this will be captured by video and loaded to the Moodle site for review by students). Also cleaning the machine)

Working in pairs students to video each other making a coffee. Each pair will be allocated to either cappuccino, latte, short and long black. The completed videos will be then uploaded to a blog and students will be asked to comment on the methods and the quality of the coffee (including why they have made these decisions).

Summative: Individual: Demonstration of ability to make a cappuccino, latte, short and long black that complies an assessment checklist. Assessment by Coffee shop manager.

Working in pairs and sharing the outcomes of their practical work with the group.
