CHPS GV TERM 3 WEEK 2

DEBATING

Last Thursday our senior debating team consisting of Luella, Leila, Alannah and Sofia travelled to Port Macquarie to compete in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Our first debate against Tacking Point debated the topic ‘that all ads for unhealthy things should be banned’. Our team was nervous and unfortunately lost this debate but received some very useful feedback from the adjudicator which they were able to take into the next debate. Our next debate against Port Macquarie Public School debated the topic ‘that all afternoon sessions in primary schools should be devoted to arts and creativity’. This time around our team performed much more confidently and came up with some strong arguments backed by good examples and evidence. They won this debate and will compete in Rounds 3 and 4 this Thursday. Well done to the whole debating team and good luck for next week.

WIN BIN DINNER WINNERS TERM 2

The Term 2 Win Bin Dinner winners enjoyed a delicious lunch at the end of last term. Congratulations.

NATIONAL TREE DAY VEGIES

Last week Steve Pellen from Kempsey Shire Council delivered winter seedlings to our school for National Tree Day. The children are looking forward to putting them in the ground and nurturing them for the rest of the winter. I wonder what the Gardening crew will be cooking up with these delicious winter vegetables and spices!! Thanks Steve and Kempsey Shire Council.

MUSIC FESTIVAL IN FULL SWING

Today our drummers travelled to Kempsey High School for their one and only massed drumming practice. They have joined over 60 other students from across the Macleay Valley to put the four different parts of this massed drumming item together. Our newly formed rock band with 10 marimba players, 14 guitarists, one amazing drummer and close to 30 singers have been singing and rapping their lunch times away in preparation for next Monday night's performance. We are also sending the largest choir contingent in the Macleay in a true show of our CHPS Strive to Excel spirit. Tickets for the music festival on sale now in our office at a cost of $8 each.

URGENTLY NEEDING SINGLETS RETURNED

We urgently require the return of any singlets for future school sporting events. If you have one these at home please return is asap.

HEAD TO HEAD WALK RUN SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST

This year’s Head to Head Walk Run, will be held on Sunday 25 August 2019 on Front Beach at Crescent Head. This is a fun family event with options of 5km, 10km, 15km or 20km to walk or run. Register as an individual or form a team of four, but don’t miss out on this great event. Registration prior to the event is required, we are unable to accept registrations on the day. CHPS GV TERM 3 WEEK 2

BOOK WEEK FAST APPROACHING

Book Week Parade is nearly here!!! On Wednesday 21st August CHPS students will walk through the village and share a book with someone special for our Book Week celebration. The theme for the 2019 Book Week is ‘Reading Is My Secret Power’. Our students and teachers come dressed as a favourite book character. At 11:30am after recess, weather permitting, we walk from our school through the main streets of Crescent Head to the grassed area near the point, with a favourite book tucked under our arm. On the grassy area we will have a parade to show off our book character costumes and then we read the book we have chosen, one on one to the people who have joined us to celebrate and share. Books will be available at the event for sale and donation to the Crescent Head School Library. Please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs V - Wendy Vermeulen 65660255 [email protected]

We would like to extend an invitation to grandparents, neighbours and community members to join us on the grassy area at the point. Come earlier to set up a picnic rug or chairs and watch the students arrive. Come down and join the fun.

Just a few important things to consider: • There is no shade near the surf club, so

consider wearing a hat or bringing a brolly. • You will be sitting on the ground so bring some

fold up chairs or a blanket. This will greatly add to your comfort and the "party" atmosphere.

• Students will be walking to and from school, they will be at The Point up to an hour, so their costume needs to be able to cope with this. Please think about shoes that are easy to walk in, and costumes that give some sun protection and are comfortable. The idea of dressing up is to have FUN and celebrate books, it doesn't need to be elaborate or cost money. Please make sure you pop sunscreen on your child before school and send along a hat.

• If students are leaving early they must be signed out at school and not from the beach as in line with DOE policies and procedures.

***Should the weather be really unsuitable (i.e. rain or strong wind) the event will be held at school. Beginning under the COLA at midday***

DRESSING UP FOR BOOK WEEK

Dressing up for Book Week doesn’t have to be expensive. Look in op shops and your wardrobe – sometimes the smallest item can make the character!! With the theme being ‘Reading Is My Secret Power’ maybe a super hero?? Mrs V can help with suggestions and characters if students ask during class library sessions.

AUTHOR VISIT – MALAINA FARANDA – YEARS 3-6 – THURSDAY 22ND AUGUST

Our book week celebrations continue all week and on Thursday 22nd August Melaina Faranda, a well-known author of children’s literature will be coming to run one hour workshops with our years, 3-6. We are very fortunate, due to Kempsey shire Council Library’s generosity, that this valuable learning will be supplied at no cost to your child.

Footwear must be worn in all PSSA Athletics events and spikes are only allowed in laned events. Please report to Mr Edwards when you arrive. Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen. There will be a canteen running on the day. Good luck to all of our Crescent Head PS competitors.

HEALTHY LUNCH BOX IDEAS

We highly recommend having a look at healthylunchbox.com.au. There are some great ideas for students’ lunchboxes.

Junior Basketball will re-commence at Melville High School on Monday, August 12 at 5 pm. Cost is $5 per session. It will be conducted in Hall 2 on the junior court with lower backboards. It is hoped to get sufficient numbers to start a junior competition. For further information contact Ev Jacobs on 0418463278.
