CNAandCIPtoaddressthechangefromNCLBtoESSA.STAARtestingdatawasnotavailableinJune.Thecommitteemetagainaftertheadministratordatadaytoreviewareasofconcern.SchoolProfile:Parisisconsideredaruralschoolinlocationbuthasmanysimilaritieswithurbanschools.79.6%ofCrockettstudentsareeconomicallydisadvantaged.Asasolutiontooneofthekeyfactorsaffectinglowsocio-economicstudents,ParisISDparticipatesintheCommunityEligibilityProvision.ThisprogramallowsallParisISDstudentsfreelunch&breakfast.Chronichungerisaproblemthatcanaffecteveryaspectofachild’slife.Asinmanyurbanschools,ourstudentsdealwithgenerationalpovertyandtheproblemsthataccompanyit.Crockettstudentsfaceawidearrayofchallengesincludinghomelessness,languagebarriers,andpoverty.Counselorsandteachersareconstantlystrugglingtoensurethatsupplementalservicesareavailablewhenastudentneedshelp.CrockettCareClosetwascreatedtohelpprovidehelpwiththeweekendhunger,personalhygieneneedsandclothing.Thisideahasspreadtoothercampusesandprovidesawidearrayofservicestohelpstudentsthatarelivinginpoverty.TheenrollmentnumbersatCrockettareontherise.Crocketthasaddressedtheincreaseinclasssizesbyaddingteacherstoteachaself-containedclassateachgradelevel(1teacherteachingallsubjects.)Thistrendofrisingenrollmentisalsoevidentatelementarycampuses.Staffingandphysicalspacewillneedtobeaddressedtoaccommodatethegrowth.Teachershaverequestedadditionalstaffdevelopmentinworkingwithstudentsfrompovertyandat-riskstudents.Teamswillcontinuefocusingonpositiveparentcontactandcoordinationofcommunication.Theattendancerateis96.2,whichisunusualwithsuchahighrateofeconomicallydisadvantagedstudents,butattendanceisbarelybelowthestaterecommendationof96.5fordistinctions.Attendanceincentiveshavebeenaddedforstudentstotrytobumpattendancerateup.OneofParisISDbiggeststrengthsisthediversecommunityweserve.Thisallowsourstudentsachancetoengagewithstudentsfromotherculturesandeconomiclevels.Therichdiversityinourschoolprovidesmanyopportunitiesforstudentstodevelopcompassion,empathyandcommunicationskills.Thecurrentclimateofourcountryneedsmorecompassion,kindness,andcommunication.ParisISDhopestocreateanenvironmentthatfostersthoseskillsbyeducatingthesocial-emotionalsideofeachstudent.Crockettwasnameda“TexasSchooltoWatch”byTexasMiddleSchoolAssociationandNationalForumtoAccelerateMiddle-GradesReformin2015.Educationaldecisionsatarebasedon4criteria:AcademicExcellence,DevelopmentalResponsiveness,SocialEquity,andOrganizationalStructures&Processes.

Culture&Climate:Crockettworkshardtobuildrelationshipsbetweenstaff:students,staff:staff,andstudent:student.TitleIIfundshavebeenallottedtobringCapturingKids’Heartstrainingtotheentiredistrict.Newstaffmembersreceiveinitialtraining.CrockettwillcontinueprogressmadewithafullcampusfollowupeachyearandbyensuringthatProcessChampionsprovidecontinuoussupportforteachers.Crockettstrivestobeacampusthatdoeswhatisbestforallstudents.OurDistrictCommencementGoalsstressacombinationofacademicandpersonalskills.Intermediateagestudentsarebetweenbeingchildrenandteens,andtheyneedinstructiononbuildingacommunityoflearnersthatrespecteachother.Therearefewseriousdisciplineoffenses.ThereisaconcernoverthenumberofstudentsmissingclassforofficevisitsandIn-SchoolSuspension.Mostofthestudentswithahighnumberofdisciplinereferralsarealsomorethan1gradelevelbehind.Timeoutofclassresultsinfallingfurtherbehind.Parents,StaffandStudentsfeelthatCrockettisasafeandwelcomingenvironmentasevidencedinourannualparentsurvey.Thedistrictcontinuestoprovideestheticchangesinthe50+year-oldbuildinglikelandscaping,interiorpaint,addingdropceilings,andotherunifyingdetails.StaffQuality,RecruitmentandRetention:ParisISDhashadagrowingELLpopulationformanyyears.ELLstudentsaregroupedin2classesingradesK-4,duetoteacherstaffingwithlimitedSpanish-speakingcertifiedteachers.WhenstudentsarriveatCrockett,theyareplacedonateamof3teachers.CrocketthasnotbeenabletofindcertifiedBilingualteachersforgrades5-6.ThissituationbringssocialemotionalconcernsforELLstudentsthatimpacthowtheyinteractwithotherstudents.The“family”dynamicoflivingnear,attendingchurchandschoolwitheachother;doesn’tnotallowthemgrowsocially.6thgradebilingualstudentsareplacedonateamwithteachersthathavealreadyhadShelteredInstructiontraining.ESLstudentswillbeplacedonteamswithteachersreceivingShelteredInstructiontraining.ParaprofessionalsthatspeakSpanisharescheduledinclassroomsforlanguagesupport.CrocketthasbilingualparaprofessionalsandclassroomteacherswithESLcertificationworkingwithstudentsintheESL/BilingualProgram.CrockettcontinuestosearchforcertifiedBilingualteachersfortheprogram.FindingapersonthatisastrongteacherwithEnglishandSpanishisahugechallenge.Recruitmentofcertifiedbilingualteacherswillcontinuetobeapriority.StipendsarepaidforteachersworkingwithESL/Bilingualstudentsbutthestipendsdon’tcompetewithlargerschooldistrictsinmetropolitanareas.Intheeventthatoureffortstohirecertifiedbilingualteachersfallsshort,staffwillbecarefullyselectedfortheirabilitytoworkwithspecialpopulations.TeachersaregivenmanyopportunitiesforESLspecifictrainingtohelpthemmeettheirstudent’sneeds.ShelteredInstructionObservationProtocoltrainingbeganin2017-2018withplanstoexpand.Teacherdemographicsdonotmatchthestudentpopulation.Recruitingeffortisfocusedoninterviewingapplicantsthatmirrorourstudentpopulation.Staffingacampuswithappropriatelycertifiedstaffisalwaysachallengeandthepoolofapplicantsforgrades4-8isshrinking.ParisISDstrivestoprovideteacherswithcompetitivepay,benefitsandworkenvironmentforourcounty.Stipendsformany

StateCompensatoryEducationfundsareusedtoimproveandenhancetheregularprogramofinstructionforstudentswhoareatriskofacademicfailureorofdroppingoutofschoolasdefinedinthestaterulesandParisIndependentSchoolDistrict’sat-riskcriteria.

CoordinationofFunding

Allfederal,stateandlocalfundsreceivedbytheParisIndependentSchoolDistrictwillbecoordinatedtoensurethatalloftheprogramsareoperatedinancertifiedandefficientmanner.Allstudentsareguaranteedequalaccesstoallfoundationprogramsandservices.Theintegrityofsupplementalprogramsismaintained.

CoordinationofInstruction

Instructionwillbecoordinatedbetweenandamongregularclassroomteachersandspecialprogramstaffwhoareservingstudentsinthesamecontentarea.Instructionalcoordinationwillbeskillandconceptspecificforactivitiesthatincludeassessment,instructionalactivitiesandon-goingmonitoringofstudentprogress.Specialemphasisisgiventocollaborativeplanningbetweenregularclassroomteachersandthestaffofthespecialprograms.
