Grade 3-12 Cross Country Day 2011Thursday, 10TH November

Negishi Park

Information Booklet

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for helping out and supporting our Cross Country Day.Here you will find some information to assist with the running of the day but should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact any of the PE staff.

Many thanks once again.

The PE Department

Special Theme

In addition to the work we have been doing in PE class on motivation, resilience and goal setting through running, this year we will use the Cross Country day as a fund raiser for a YIS initiative called “ Kizuna-Connections Through Sport”. The idea is to raise some funding to invite students from our partnership schools in Ishinomaki to attend sporting exchanges at YIS. In fact we are delighted to say that 6 students and 2 teachers from Ishinomaki will be attending our cross-country day this year.In order to raise funding for their travel and future events, we will be selling specially designed running shirts and inviting teachers and parents to run in an 'All Comers Run' where there will be a charge of 2000 ¥ for entry. The run will not be competitive, 2.6km long (2 laps of NP) and staff can run as fast or as slow as they like. This money will then be donated to our connections through sport program. Those signing up for the race will also get a special running shirt with the school logo and the words Kizuna- Connections through sport emblazoned upon. Those teachers not wanting to run can also purchase a running shirt if interested.

The Route. 2.6km (2 Laps)

Transport Arrangements

Students will be transported by School Bus. There will only be 2/3 buses available, so they will need to run in shuttles. Youngest students should board the bus first. Staff should also board the buses with their tutor groups and return to school with their tutor groups. Could we please ask that you help assist with the swift transfer of students onto the buses. Many Thanks.

Staff Roles Descriptions

Results Table Students will line up and give you a stick with their place on it and tell you

their name. In the excel spreadsheet, you need to put their place next to their name. Times will be handed in at the end of the race by the time-keeper. You then need to put into the spreadsheet the correct time next to the correct place. Identify first place and highlight. Average out the scores for each team and identify the winners of Elementary, Middle School and High School.

One person will need to organize collected sticks into 2 piles, odd and even in numerical order.

Course Marshals: Please stay in your allocated area and ensure students are running the correct

course. Please see the points on the map below.

There will be a first-aid kit nearby all marshal areas if needed. Ensure all marshals have a mobile phone and if a situation arises please call

David Noon on 080-3700-0511 or Alex Thomas on 080 5507-1976.

House Supervisors: When students arrive please chaperone students to the appropriate areas

(there will be cones and coloured flags for each house team). Supervise the students in your house while they are not running. Students are

able to wander around the large grassy area and support runners. Please make sure all students are warmed-up and ready to run at least 10min

before their race time. Take the students for a short warm-up and stretch.

Finish-line Sticks: One person will hand out ‘odd-numbered’ sticks and the other ‘even-

numbered’. David Noon and Alex Thomas will also be there to help judge the ‘close finishers’ if needed.

Once a stick is handed to a student make sure the student goes through the race channel straight to the table to hand their stick in.
