Wow, what a busy year it’s been. And I see November and December as closing out one of the most active years for the club since I’ve been a member. That’s a real tribute to the members who have stepped up to sponsor events and to those who sup- ported the events throughout the year. Personally, I think it’s been a fun year and want to thank the members of this year’s board for the leadership role they played in moving the club forward all year long. With the elections in November, I know we will have a strong group of board members return- ing plus a mixture of new ideas and approaches coming from first time board members. When you see the following 2009 Board Members at the November Business Meeting, be sure and thank them for their outstanding effort: Bill Rhode – Vice President Janet Ray – Secretary Patti Kerber – Treasurer Rhonda Deacon – Activities Chair Bruce Mundy – NCCC Governor Jim Kerber – Webmaster Patty Friesz – Crosstalk Editor Mike Terrey – Member at Large Marge Rhode – Membership Chair If you did not enjoy the Corvette Club of Arizona this year, then you must not have at- tended any of the activities. We did drivers, overnighters, dining out, dining in, charity events, car shows, highway clean ups, parties, autocrossing and most of all, the fun of in- teracting with a great group of people. So as we approach the end of 2009, don’t miss any of the remaining events. Thorobred Thunder, theatre night, the Year End banquet and of course the Christmas party. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to serve as club president and look forward to continuing as an active member of the club in the years to come. Wow, what a busy year it’s been. And I see November and December as closing out one of the most active years for the club since I’ve been a member. That’s a real tribute to the members who have stepped up to sponsor events and to those who sup-ported the events throughout the year. Personally, I think it’s been a fun year and want to thank the members of this year’s board for the leadership role they played in moving the club forward all year long. With the elections in November, I know we will have a strong group of board members return-ing plus a mixture of new ideas and approaches coming from first time board members. When you see the following 2009 Board Members at the November Business Meeting, be sure and thank them for their outstanding effort:

Bill Rhode – Vice President Janet Ray – Secretary Patti Kerber – Treasurer Rhonda Deacon – Activities Chair Bruce Mundy – NCCC Governor Jim Kerber – Webmaster Patty Friesz – Crosstalk Editor Mike Terrey – Member at Large Marge Rhode – Membership Chair

If you did not enjoy the Corvette Club of Arizona this year, then you must not have at-tended any of the activities. We did drivers, overnighters, dining out, dining in, charity events, car shows, highway clean ups, parties, autocrossing and most of all, the fun of in-teracting with a great group of people. So as we approach the end of 2009, don’t miss any of the remaining events. Thorobred Thunder, theatre night, the Year End banquet and of course the Christmas party. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to serve as club president and look forward to continuing as an active member of the club in the years to come. Sincerely, Jim

On September 18th, 2009, the annual CCA Magical Mystery Tour set off on an exciting and event filled weekend. The group of fourteen corvettes made their way North on I-17 towards the first of the five stops. At each stop there were refreshments, snacks, and the newly developed (by Rob) Scrabble – CCA Road Trip Edition. Once everyone arrived at the stop, the group pro-ceeded to the next stop. The stops were; 1.) Cordes Junction at I-17 and AZ-69

2.) Chino Valley north of Prescott on I-89 3.) Seligman on Route 66 4.) Lunch at the Golden Corral in Kingman 5.)Mile Marker 27 on US-93

Each car could drive at their own pace knowing that everyone would be waiting for them at the next stop. There were rumors that some of the cars may have exceeded the speed limit during a few segments of the trip. I have not been able to verify this as we were in the front and not able to observe the other cars…..

In case you haven’t guessed

where this year’s trip went

(no one guessed correctly at the start),

it was an “off the strip”

Las Vegas weekend.

I’ I’m sure no one lost any money as we had a full schedule of activities to keep everyone occupied. The ac-

commodations were at the Marriot Residence Inn with reserved secure parking out front for the Corvettes. They even had a security guard on at night watching the cars. The rooms had full sized fridges and a kitchenette. The breakfasts were at the hotel and had a wide selection of hot and cold offerings. The hotel also had a pool and large hot tub.

On Friday night, we surprised everyone with a “non pizza” first night. No one told us it was tradition to have pizza on the first night. Sorry to all of the pizza lovers! We drove 2 miles to “Tommy Bahamas” Restaurant in “Town Square East”, which is an outdoor mall like Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. The dinner package in-cluded reserved street parking in front of the restaurant for the Corvettes. They attracted a lot of interest from the tourists and shoppers! Dinner was a 3 course meal and everyone seemed to enjoy it. The chef got a rousing ap-plause from the CCA members. We had our own banquet room with live music in the bar.

On Saturday morning, a “de-bugging” car cleanup was organized in the parking area. Thanks to George Ray and Bill Rhode, we were able to clean up all of the Corvettes except for Loren’s (you’re supposed to send your son down for this event). We needed all of the cars cleaned up as the next stop was a “photo stop” at Lake Las Vegas, about 15 miles east of city. It was nice to get all of the cars together for a picture and I think everyone took advantage. We had parking together for the cars in the Town of Lake Las Vegas and everyone joined us for lunch at the “Sonrisa Grill”. The prize for guessing where we were going went to the Fecks. The poker rally was won by Loren McCarthy. The prizes for the Scrabble – CCA Road Trip Edition went to 1st - The Halladays, 2nd- The Enriquez, and 3rd – The Golecs. Everyone then had a few hours to themselves in the afternoon to shop, gam-ble, or relax by the pool.

34th Annual CCA Magical Mystery Tour To Las Vegas - Part 2

Saturday night began with a line of CCA Corvettes driving down Las Vegas Blvd to the Mi-rage Casino. Valet parking was arranged for the cars. There were even a few spots in the entry reserved for those that didn’t want anyone to drive their car. Dinner was at the “Craving’s” buffet in the Mirage. The food was excellent! Scott Feck made a valiant effort to sample food from every part of the world – and even after 4+ plates he still had dessert.

After dinner, we all went on to the highlight event of the trip – Cirque de Soleil LOVE. The

show featured Beatles music and a non-stop acrobatic show that was amazing. The arrange-ments and activities of the entertainers were synchronized to the music. There was so much go-ing on that it is hard to describe. Each seat had its own sound system built into it. This was truly an amazing show. I know this was an event that no one will forget.

At breakfast on Sunday everyone received a unique t-shirt to remember MMT 2009. We had a lot of fun planning and participating in the trip and enjoyed surprising everyone with this year’s CCA Magical Mystery Tour events and activities! Rob & Rhonda Deacon

34th Annual CCA Magical Mystery Tour To Las Vegas - Part 3

Thirty five happy people got to caravan down the I-10 and Hwy.83 to Sonoita / Elgin Arizona in Santa Cruz County for a weekend of fun, frivolity and old fashion nonsense. In just three hours, that included a forty minute haircut, the cast and crew of C.C.A. arrived at the Viaggio for lunch. Benissimo! Lunch was followed by check in at the famous Five Asterisk***** Sonoita Inn. After a quick assembly for an even quicker trip to Callaghan’s Vineyard we took the tasting room by storm. The vintner’s poured and we sampled and sampled and sampled some more. The wines received mixed reviews. Then it was on to Dos Cabezos for round two of tasting. Two Head’s won our hearts and taste buds. We sipped and purchased. We sipped again and purchased even more. It is a good thing we parked our babies by the Inn and were on foot from this tasting room until bed time. The effects of the grape were starting to build and were about to “go over the top” at happy hour.

Déjà vu Wine Tour Planners - Bob Caccamo

With Marge & Bill Rhode

Our two hour happy hour included wine and cheese and an awards presentation for all Ralley Quiz par-ticipants. Led by the Rhode’s, Bob and the “hotter than a two dollar pistol” recipient Gail, prizes were given that ranged from the serious to senseless. Eddie was admonished for being responsible for the Cac-camo Curse and Diamond Bill received a valuable book and resource about automobiles. A highlight of the event was when thirty three road running wine drinking hard driving Corvette enthusiasts tore open their shirts and flashed Eddie B. Jr….with T-shirts that read “I Support Bashas’ ”.

It was dinner time and we began to mossy over to the Steak Out for vittles…and more spirits. Dinner was a fine ending for a busy fun filled day. Day two was a driver’s choice with many going to Patagonia for the Art Festival on the Prairie. It turned out to be a good choice. Yes…more fun, and more opportunity to shop and find ways to part with our paychecks. A highlight of this “driver” was that several couples new to CC.A. travel joined us, took part “jumped in” and added to our fun. Welcome rookies! We are glad you were able to make the trip. Next wine Tour 2011. Bob Caccamo

Welcome New CCA Members John & Norma Marsh

John & Norma moved to AZ eleven years ago after retiring from jobs in Nebraska. John had been head of transportation with the SE Community College in Lincoln, NE and Norma had spent 32 years as a school teacher. Upon arriving in AZ, they purchased their ’59 red & white Corvette convertible and John immediately set about restoring it. He has become a member of NCRS as well as a judge. They also became members of the Solid Axle Cor-vettes in order to share knowledge about restoring the C-1s. John gives Tech sessions for the Club. He also enjoys displaying his restored C-1 at cruise-ins, car shows & charity events. Mike Terrey introduced them to CCA when they purchased their new 2009 Crystal Red Corvette Convertible. The day that they picked up their new Vette was a celebration of John’s birthday and the 50th birthday of their ‘59 Vette. They are eager to do more touring in the comfort of their new Vette. John’s other interests are in RC Model Airplanes, SASS Cowboy Shooting and oil painting western landscapes. Norma is active in the Sun Lakes Garden Club and other community & church activities. They both enjoy playing golf, reading books, dancing at their local Dance Club and traveling to National Car Events. After having had a wonderful time on our recent weekend Wine Country Trip to Sonoita in their C-6 and displaying their C-1 in our 2009 Thorobred Thunder Show, they are looking forward to participating in many drivers and shows with CCA. And CCA is excited about having them as members.
