From the Principal’s Desk
Greetings,
We are ready to send the material to you to
sign up for the online grading program. Earlier
this year we talked of the change in software to
Powerschool. This new program is now in place
for your supervision of the online gradebook. Mr.
Duncan has the announcement for each family.
After the parent signs in, the student may also
sign in for their own account. Monday, a paper
document for your family will be sent home. It
will have specific instructions/passwords for your
family. Please sign up as soon as possible. Mr.
Duncan ([email protected]) will field
your questions.
Volunteer to work a few
hours at Jurassic Quest at
State Fair Oct 21-22. No training, just
a chance to help raise money as a part of the
group that supports our teen mission trips, our
tuition aid fund, and many other activities that are
not budgeted but are great programs. Email Dawn
Lambrecht at [email protected] get in
free, work a few hours and meet your family for
some fun.
Next week we will have a school intruder drill.
This is our lockdown procedure. Sometimes this is
especially emotional for students. If you feel your
child will have trouble with the drill, please send a
message to the teacher and reassure your child
that practice drills (fire, tornado and intruder) are
to keep us safe.
Cross Country, Volleyball and Soccer are
closing their seasons soon. Thank you coaches for
the time and effort you put into helping our
students.
SCRIP CARDS FOR STARBUCKS, PAPA MURPHY’S,
COUSINS, PANERA are available in the school

Our Childcare has openings for three full time

ST. JOHN’S SHOE DRIVEDID YOUR CHILDREN OUTGROW THEIR SHOES
THIS SUMMER? GYM SHOES NO LONGER FIT?
Your donated shoes will change lives in Africa! We will be collecting shoes for Soles for
Jesus (Milwaukee based non-profit) during October in the church narthex and at
school. All sizes and types (men's, women's, children's) accepted. Please contact Yvonne
Quint at 262-790-5716 with questions.
Parents’ Preview The Parents’ Preview highlights an aspect of next week’s service: a liturgical song, a Psalm refrain, or a hymn stanza. SCHOOL INTRUDER DRILL
Each year we are required to practice three kinds of drills: monthly fire drills, two tornado drills and intruder drills. In the past we have concentrated on quietly locking the room doors and getting the children out of sight. Homeland Security now recommends we practice RUN HIDE FIGHT Teachers have described this behavior to their class, now we will practice it. We will inform parents about these intruder drills as we practice them. During the month of October, we will practice this drill to better review and evaluate our procedures as a staff. The purpose of a school lockdown drill is to protect, and keep as safe as possible, the children and adults in the building from a potential emergency such as an intruder in the building. During the lockdown drill, students are to clear the halls and report to the nearest available classroom where they are to hide and stay as silent as possible. If you think this kind of a drill will be a problem for your child, please talk to them now and help them prepare. We are planning a drill for next week Wednesday.
Bedtime Blessings Wednesday, October 25th - 6:00pm It’s time to sign up for Bedtime Blessings

aged children through 1st grade are invited to school on October 25 at 6:00. Come dressed in your PJ’s and get ready for a fun night of
building with different blocks, singing, crafting, and learning about the Lutheran
reformer Martin Luther. The signup sheets came home at the beginning of October. If you cannot find the paper, ask your child’s
teacher or email Mrs. Leslie Campbell to let us know how many in your family are
coming. Older siblings are welcome to come if they want. Parents will have an opportunity to browse family devotion books while the
kids are busy in our Lessons on Luther station. Don’t forget we are teaming up with
kids from Mt. Calvary and collecting light-weight children’s PJ’s to send to Texas for children touched by Hurricane Harvey. See
you at BEDTIME! To help us plan accordingly, please RSVP by
Friday, October 13 at www.sjtosa.org/BedtimeBlessings
Pizza Hut Cheese Pizza Day Friday, October 20th. Next Friday is Pizza Hut Cheese Pizza Day. An orange form was sent home with all students in Childcare thru Grade 8. Please complete the form and return it to your child’s teacher by Monday, October 16th.
We are learning about fall and harvest time.
We are enjoying stories that the children share about fun things to do with/in leaves, and going to a pumpkin farm and/or apple orchard. Fall
projects/decorations will continue to be the focus at craft time. We have a tree bulletin
board with hand printed fall colored leaves to help the children recognize their first name. The apple bulletin board will help us identify our
whole name and say the letters in our name. We will create some wonderful finger painted
pumpkins next week. This activity helps with pre-writing skills because of the tracing involved. We are also working hard to color
neatly staying in the lines while holding our crayon or marker correctly.
We have been exploring the world of musical instruments trying to find our rhythm. The children enjoy using our rhythm sticks and
other percussion instruments to enhance songs we already know and learn some new ones.
Your generosity in donating items I requested for our room is wonderful and appreciated. We have received lots of orange tissue paper and
cottons balls. We should be set for the year. Thanks a bunch! A special thank you to Ava
and her family for donating a new doll bed and high chair for our ‘house’ play area. It’s
beautiful and the children love it! During Jesus time we have been learning how God loved Jacob even though he sinned. God
promised to be with Jacob always and send Jesus, the Savior to take away sin. The
children colored a mini-book of the story, Jacob’s Beautiful Dream
Serving Jesus and His Lambs, Mrs. Henning
