Goal: It is about THEM . Through learning Mandarin and the lens of Chinese perspectives, the students will learn more about themselves and the world.

WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IN THIS CLASS?
Beginning Language (Novice Mid) – Level 1/2 By the end of the school year of language study, you can understand and say a lot. You can read and write in the language, as well. In general, you can greet people, introduce yourself to the others; you can exchange personal information, such as phone number and email address. Talk about your family members’ age, occupation and appearance…You will make some mistakes when you communicate, but you should keep in mind that these mistakes are a natural part of learning a new language. Just pay attention to them to see if you can begin to eliminate them.

WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IN THIS CLASS?
Beginning Language (Novice High) – Level 3/4 By the end of the school year of language study, you can understand and say a lot. You can read and write in the language, as well. In general, you can give personal information about yourself, as well as information about others; you can tell about your likes and dislikes, your preferences and your needs, and you begin to use the language for some functions, like asking for or giving directions or maybe even buying things like food or clothing. You will make some mistakes when you communicate, but you should keep in mind that these mistakes are a natural part of learning a new language. Just pay attention to them to see if you can begin to eliminate them.
Grading semester work 80% Final 20%• Homework and most class work is to develop the skills
necessary to perform in the language. This is a minor portion of the grade. (1-5 points each)
• Vocabulary and Unit Quizzes are another part which helps the student progress. (5-20points each)
• Performance toward proficiency assessments – interpersonal, interpretive, presentational(10-50 points each)

Classwork/homework/Quiz policy • No late work accepted (email me to request due
date extensions due for tech issues). • Absent = 2 days to make up. • All Unit tests may be retaken once • No Google translation • Prepare for the quiz on every Friday.
