Protect California
Sportfishing and Jobs!
While California’s abundant natural resources have made California an
international destination for outdoor recreation and tourism, the State is
experiencing the lowest fishing participation rate in the Country, even as
its population of 37 million grows!
Regulations Threaten Access and Affordability! Access to Californian’s 4,000 lakes, 20,000 ponds, 800 miles of
coastline, and thousands of miles more of streams has never been
more limited.
l MLPA closed 850 sq. miles of coastline!l Elimination of high Sierra fishing! l Unlawful municipal ordinances that limit gear and manner of take! l Onerous fish stocking regulations!l Potential ban on fishing gear!
Regulations Threaten Jobs!As participation declines, recreational fishing’s $4.9 billion annual
contribution to California’s economy will, too. California depends on
fishing to support its outdoor tourism and hospitality industry, retail,
boating, manufacturing, aquaculture and more!
The Need to Protect Recreational Fishing Has Never Been Greater! CSL is not a fishing club, but an association of businesses and and fishing organizations devoted to protecting
access to recreational fishing. Its professional and seasoned team is located in California’s capital to serve as a
government watchdog, to influence the outcome of public policy, including, but not limited to:
l Growing political engagement through grassroots and social media campaignsl Exerting political influence by engaging fishing clubs, employers and business organizationsl Educating the public, media and policy makers on the importance of protecting sportfishing
Since 1980, fishing licenses have declined by nearly 55%, while California’s population increased by nearly 60%.
