Hard to Find Classic Silver CoinsMillions Were Minted but Most Were Melted for Their Precious Silver

c

b. Peace DollarsThe first and only U.S. coin to display the word “PEACE”, the Peace Dollar was introduced in 1921 as the successor to the popular Morgan Dollar series. The new design was created to commemorate the restoration of peace following the conclusion of World War I—“the war to end all wars”. A rendering of Liberty is on the obverse, while the reverse shows a bald eagle in front of sun rays. These were the last large silver dollars minted for circulation and production ceased after 1935.*

e. 1921 Morgan Dollar with Bonus Peace Dollar—Fine or BetterDespite minimal demand from the public, plus the fact that millions had been melted under the Pittman Act, production of Morgan Dollars cranked up once again on May 9,1921. Coincidentally, on the very same day, legislation was introduced in Congress calling for the issuance of a new silver dollar marking the postwar peace of WWI. This new coin would ultimately become the PEACE Dollar. This set includes one each of these spectacular “cartwheel” silver dollars—each in fine or better condition!

030137 | $79.95

d. Seated Liberty CollectionIt’s been 120 years since these coins were minted and most have either been worn down or melted for their silver. They’re almost never seen today outside of coin collections. This classic three-coin set is in collector-grade Good or Better condition. The three coins are the dime, quarter and half dollar, and each is 90% silver. A fantastic way to experience our 19th century coin history—today!

c. 1923 Binion Prestige Peace DollarsTed Binion was an eccentric, wealthy U.S. gambling executive and part of Binion’s Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. When he died in 1998, a huge hoard of silver coins was found in a secret vault buried 12-feet deep on his Nevada property. These 1923 Prestige Peace Dollars are certified by NGC to have come from the “Binion Silver Hoard” and are graded MS65. The slabs are numbered and only 715 were graded. Bonus Binion Scrapbook included.

These proof Presidential Dollars are struck at the San Francisco facility and carry the “S” mint mark. Each 4-coin set comes in the Original Government Packaging.

State and Territory Proof Coin CollectionU.S. Mint Proof Statehood Quarters were never offered for public circulation. They’re exceedingly rare—in fact, the typical mintage of a Proof Statehood Quarter is less than ONE HALF of 1% of the entire mintage of the Statehood Quarters you might find in your spare change. Proof coins are SO desirable that they are often selfishly hoarded by wealthy collectors.

Statehood Quarter Proofs are produced exclusively at the U.S. Mint’s San Francisco facility and are struck to the same demanding standards that have been in place since 1965. These coins are limited edition works of art—the highest quality coinage produced by the U.S. Mint.

The Proof coins from 1999 and 2001 are extremely hard to obtain, but with either one of these packages you are assured to get every one of these coins in pristine proof condition!

If you’ve never seen or held a proof coin, you are in for a real treat. The coins are simply stunning.

Proof coins are minted exclusively at the San Francisco Mint using specially treated, polished and cleaned coin blanks. The finished coins are incredibly brilliant with intricate details that rise above a mirror-finish background.

This set includes 11 different U.S. Mint annual releases—56 coins in all—in original government display lenses. The lenses are protected by our handsome and durable wraps. It’s a collection you’ll be proud to own!

Artwork for each America the Beautiful Quarter® is first digitally mastered in 3D to capture the beauty of America’s natural parks and historic landmarks. The artwork is then passed on to the San Francisco Mint, the exclusive minting facility for proof-quality coins. The mint produces a limited number of these proofs, where each coin is double struck for crisp relief providing a level of detail not found on typical circulating coinage. Roughly 1 in 1000 of these proofs achieves the flawless grade of PR70. Even fewer qualify for the designation of Deep Cameo (DCAM). Each coin in these sets is individually encapsulated and certified PR70 DCAM by ANACS. Available as a Clad Proof Set and Silver Proof Set.

Gold BuffalosIn 2006, the United States Mint introduced the American Gold Buffalo as its first 24kt gold bullion coin. This was the first time ever that the U.S. Government had minted pure (.9999) 24kt gold coins for the public.

These coins are designed after the famous 1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel created by James Earle Fraser. The obverse of this gold coin shows the well-known Indian Head, and the reverse features the classic buffalo design as well as inscriptions of the weight, denomination, and gold content. Gold prices fluctuate, but the popularity of U.S. Gold Buffalo bullion coins only increases!

*Special Mint Set

American Mint SetsMade Exclusively for Collectors

Since 1947, the United States Mint has created annual sets of uncirculated coins for collectors known as Mint Sets. These popular sets provide collectors with one example of each coin issued for circulation.

Amidst a few interruptions and several changes in format, this popular offering for collectors continues to the present day.

Some sets are particularly noteworthy since they contain coins not issued for circulation. This includes the 1970 Mint Set, which includes the 1970 -D Kennedy Half, and later sets issued in 1973 and 1981 that include non-circulating dollar coins. The 1996 Mint Set included the 1996 -W Roosevelt Dime struck at the West Point Mint—a coin found only in the sets for the 50th anniversary of the coin series.

From 2005 to present, the United States Mint has used a special satin finish for coins included in the annual Mint Set. Along with particularly low mintage, this adds another unique aspect to the sets.

a. Peace DollarsThe Peace Dollar was first minted in 1921 to commemorate the end of World War I and the peace that followed. It was the successor to the popular Morgan Dollar. Peace Dollars were last minted in 1935, and at the height of the Great Depression, millions of these coins were melted for their silver content. This is a rare chance to own 10 examples of the only coin to display the word “PEACE”.

b. Morgan DollarsMinted intermittently from 1878 to 1921, the Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most collected coins in the hobby! It’s big (one and a half inches in diameter), and made of 90% silver. The coin is named after its designer George T. Morgan, and his initial M is found at the end of the neck of the portrait Lady Liberty on the obverse of the coin.

e. Sacagawea DollarsSacagawea is the Shoshone Indian guide who appeared on the scene of history in 1804 to assist Lewis and Clark on their momentous expedition west. The Sacagawea Dollar was introduced in 2000 as the new circulating dollar coin of the United States of America. These coins have a copper core clad by manganese brass, giving them a distinctive golden color.

c. Eisenhower DollarsIssued from 1971-1978 these coins were designed to honor both President Dwight D Eisenhower and the first landing of a man on the moon. The Eisenhower dollar was the last dollar coin to contain a proportional amount of base metal to low denomination coins; it has the same amount of copper-nickel as two Kennedy half dollars, four Washington quarters, or ten Roosevelt dimes.

c. Franklin Half DollarsThis coin was the last half dollar minted in .900 pure silver during its entire run from 1948-1963. It’s the first circulating coin to feature a real person other than a U.S. President—Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. The reverse features the Liberty Bell. This Franklin half dollar was short-lived and disappeared to make way for the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar.

d. Kennedy Half DollarsThe Kennedy half dollar, first minted in 1964, is the only fifty cent coin issued by the United States Mint. Intended as a memorial to the assassinated President John F. Kennedy, it was authorized by Congress just over a month after his death. Despite the fact that these coins are still being struck, their circulation is extremely limited.

e. Standing Liberty QuartersThese coins were struck by the U.S. Mint from 1916 to 1930 in .900 silver. The original design of the coin was the subject of some controversy. The design was modified in 1917 to cover Liberty’s exposed breast, and the reverse received a new arrangement of the stars, with the eagle moved higher. In 1925 the design was altered again when a depression was made in the pedestal on which Liberty stands and that bears the date.

Collector Starter SetsIntroduce Someone to the Hobby of Kings—Coin Collecting!

a. Barber DimesBarber or Liberty Head dimes were minted between 1892 and 1916 and are composed of .900 silver. They were designed by Charles E. Barber, Chief Engraver of the Mint, who also designed the twenty, five, and fifty-cent pieces. His initial B is at the end of the neck of the image of Liberty on the obverse. The dime featured a wreath of American agricultural products with the words “ONE DIME” in the center.

b. Mercury DimesAlthough this coin is commonly called the “Mercury” dime, it is in fact the Winged Liberty Head dime and the figure on the obverse is a representation of Liberty. These coins have not been produced in over 60 years, and are harder to find with each passing day! Minted between 1916 and 1945, the wings crowning her cap are intended to symbolize the liberty of thought.

c. Roosevelt DimesFollowing his death in 1945, the dime was chosen to honor Franklin D Roosevelt. The dime honored Roosevelt partly due to his efforts in the founding of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (later renamed the March of Dimes) and through 1964 the dimes were struck in .900 silver.

d. Buffalo NickelsAlso known as the “Indian head” nickel, this coin is a copper nickel five cent piece struck by the U.S. Mint from 1913 to 1938. It was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser. The image on the obverse of the coin is actually a composite of several Native Americans, and the bison on the reverse of the coin is rumored to have been modeled after Black Diamond, a resident of the Central Park Zoo in the early 1900’s.

e. Steel PenniesDuring WWII, the U.S. Government melted many coins for their use in the war effort, and this temporarily changed the way coins were minted. In 1943, the penny was made out of steel rather than copper. Each of these “steelies” feature a profile of President Abraham Lincoln on the obverse, and the legendary “wheat ears” design on the reverse. Coins are in average circulated condition.

e. Rare U.S. Cent CollectionOwn these rare U.S. coins from the 1800’s! One of the first coins struck at the U.S. Mint was the Large Cent in 1793. The Two Cent coin is an unusual denomination that first appeared in 1864, during a period of coin shortages caused by the Civil War. The Three Cent coins first appeared in 1851 to facilitate the purchase of postage, which at the time cost 3 Cents. A great collection!

d. Giant U.S. CoppersCents and half cents were the first coins struck for circulation under the authority of the U.S. Government.
