On the International Day of Older Persons - 1st October, Help Age India honoured L&T Construction with a So-cial Responsibility Award for its continual support towards the cause and care of the dis-advantaged elders.

Bangalore Regional Office donates 55 units to Indian Red Cross Society

BIAL T1-Expansion Pro-ject, Bengaluru in associa-tion with Indian Red Cross Society (Karnataka Branch) organized a blood donation camp on 24th December 2013.

Mr. K.N. Suresh Kumar, Vice President - Contracts BIAL-GVK, inaugurated the programme. During the campaign, volunteers from BIAL-GVK (Client) and L&T’s project team active-ly participated in the blood donation drive. 136 units of blood was collected in the camp. The donors were awarded with certificates and mementos. Indian Red Cross Society presented an appreciation certificate to the project team.

On 18th October, a blood donation camp was organ-ised at Olympia Grand pro-ject site in association with Dhanvandri Blood Bank & Research Centre. 51 units of blood was donated by the staff and workmen. The camp was inaugurated by the Deputy Project Manager, Mr. S. Ganesan.

The Construction Skills Training Institute, Panvel organized a blood donation camp on 24th October. The camp was held in association with the Indian Red Cross Society Mumbai.

Over 89 units of blood was collected in this drive. The staff and trainees of CSTI

A voluntary blood donation camp was organised on 21st October at Bangalore Regional Office in association with the Indian Red Cross Society (Karnataka Branch). Mr. K. N. Nagendra, Cluster Project Manager CBA - B&F IC inaugurated the camp. Over 80 volunteers enthusiastically participated in this camp and 55 units was donated towards a noble cause.

Every donor was presented with a certificate of appreciation and the Indian Red Cross Society applauded and thanked the efforts of Mr. S. Raghunath - Regional Manager and Mr. Ashok Kumar Hadimani, Cluster Project Manager RBF - B&F IC who were instrumental in arranging the camp.

Vice President & Head - MMH IC inaugurated the camp. Ladies Club mem-bers and all our staff enthu-siastically participated in this camp and 117 units of blood was donated towards a noble cause.

Bangalore Regional Office donates 55 units to Indian Red Cross Society

A blood donation camp was organized by Jharkhand TL (JSEB) project at its Dhanbad office on 1st December 2013. The camp was held in association with Patliputra Medical College & Hospital (PMCH). 50 units of blood was collected through this initiative.

Bisalpur Tonk Uniyara, Water Supply project at Rajasthan conducted blood donation camp in a Mobile Blood Bank at Saroli-Ra-jasthan on 14th December. During this camp, 46 units of blood was collected.

The 3rd Line PANS – KGP Rly Project (RC SBG - IN-FRA IC) and 220 KV 132 KV (TL - PT&D IC) pro-ject sites jointly organised a Blood donation camp in association with Prembazar Sarbajanin Durgapuja Com-mittee on 4th October. State General Hospital and S.E. Rly Hospital - Kharagpur fa-cilitated this programme and the camp was inaugurated by Dr. B. Varun Chandra Sekhar (IPS) Kharagpur and Mr. Chima Okario, Ex. Interna-tional Football Player.

Staff and workmen enthusi-astically participated and do-nated 45 units of blood.

Metro Tunnelling Delhi L&T SUCG JV DMRC CC05 Pro-ject organized a blood dona-tion camp on 28th November at site. Mr. D DKhot, Cluster Head Delhi, HC IC, Mr. Shen Chengming, Project Leader, Mr. S K Gupta, by Project Leader and Mr. Sukumar Kundu, Commercial Leader inaugurated the programme.

A team from Indian Red Cross Society headed by Dr. Jasbir Singh screened the enthusiastic donors. 50 staff and workmen donated blood. This camp was initiated by Mr. L. C. Tripathi, Manager IR and Mr. Suresh Sashi Ku-mar, Manager EHS.

Barh - Gorakhpur TL project team donated 32 units of bloodA voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organised by 400KV D/C Barh- Gorakhpur TL project on 27th October. The staff, supervisors and workmen together made this camp successful by donating 32 units of blood. City Blood Bank, Gorakhpur facilitated the camp and presented an appreciation certificate to L&T.

125MW CSP project team donates 31 units of blood to Paras Blood BankAs a part of the organiza-tions CSR efforts, the staff of 125MW CSP Solar Ther-mal Plant project donated 31 units of blood to Paras Blood Bank. The blood donation camp was organized along with Reliance and Mr. K. Vellaichamy, Project Direc-tor along with Mr. R Elango-van, EHS Manager initiated this program.

NP-RWTL Project donates 28 units of bloodIn a Blood donation camp organized by NP - Raipur Wardha TL Project, Brama-puri, Nagpur Cluster on 28th September, 28 units of blood was collected.

Nagaur CDS project donates water purifier to a Government School - 200 children benefited

The staff at Metro Tunnelling Delhi L&T SUCG JV, CC05 Project conducted a pro-gramme to educate children on First Aid with the support of Red Cross Society.

L&T reached out to 360 students of Andhra Senior Secondary School (run by

The site team donated 250 woolen sweaters to the school children to make them feel comfortable during this winter season. Government Officials from PHED-Jaipur were present during this oc-casion along with the project team.

As part of the organiza-tion’s CSR efforts, Na-gaur CDS Project distrib-uted RO Water Purifiers and Water Coolers to a Government School near the site.

The TDS range of wa-ter in that area was quite high and this range is beyond the standards of BIS and WHO. The puri-fier cum water cooler do-nated by L&T paved way for providing clean and safe drinking water (TDS range of 50 ppm only) for the children.

The additional cooler fa-cility in the purifier will be of great help during summer when the aver-age temperature is 45 degrees. The school au-thorities thanked L&T profusely for this sup-port.

The staff from M/s. Arbrit Safety & Engineering Solu-tions Pvt Ltd demonstrated few basic first aid tech-

niques for the children. Ms. Rupa Puri, Principal, Mr. R. P. Lavania, Retd. Chief Co-ordinator, South East, Delhi Police along with the Mr. R. G.Saini, Project Director, Mr. S. Hariharan, Manager- IR and the project team par-ticipated in this programme. 150 students benefited from this programme.

Bangalore Region organizes a fun trip for 120 Government school childrenL&T Construction, Banga-lore Region organised an educational tour for the 120 children of Government Lower Primary School, Ut-tarahalli to Innovative Film City, Bidadi on 20th Decem-ber.

Every IC at Bangalore Re-gion had a role to play in this initiative. The large bat-

talion of enthusiastic kids were guided by L&Tites in-cluding Ms. Geetha Subra-manian, Manager Marketing - DC & CSR Coordinator, Ms. J. Uma, Asst Manager Commercial - Water Utili-ties, Ms. Wagdevi Kulkarni, Cluster Quality Manager - PT&D IC and Ms. Vibha.V, Sr. Engineer Civil – B&F

Delhi Metro site conducts first aid and road safety awareness program for 110 school childrenAn awareness program on basic first aid and road safety was conducted for the chil-dren of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, R.K.Puram, New Delhi on 16th December. L&T SUCG JV CC 27, Delhi Metro Rail Project invited trainers from M/s Arbrit Safety & Engi-neering Solutions Pvt Ltd to demonstrate first aid tech-niques to the children. Tata Steel Projects support the education of 150 childrenEducation being one of the prime focus areas under CSR, the staff at Tata Steel Projects, Jamshedpur constructed a Physics Laboratory at Dak-shin Bharath Mahila Samaj, Kadma, CBSE affiliated school in Jamshedpur. The site also donated the required instruments for this labora-tory.

On 23rd October, the labo-ratory was inaugurated by the management committee members of DBMS English School in the presence of Mr. S Madhan Kumar, Projects Accountant and other site staff.

Over 150 students studying in different classes will benefit from this laboratory facility.

KMDA ROB and Flyover Project team donates essential items to a school hostelThe staff at KMDA ROB and Flyover Project reached out to the 100 resident students of Moulana Hasrat Mohani Memorial Girls School Hostel on 11th December.

The Kolkata Cluster received a request from this school on their requirement of essential commodities for their newly es-tablished girls hostel and the team responded favourably. The site team donated a refrigerator of 190 litres capacity, mattress-es, blankets, bed sheets, sweaters and school bags.

These items were donated in the presence of the Honourable Minster-In-Charge for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Govt. of West Bengal, Mr. Firhad Hakim (the school is situated in his electoral constituency). Over 100 girls from classes V to VIII were benefited.

CMRL Ballastless Track Project conducts Safety awareness program for LBEAAR School

CMRL - Ballastless Track Works Project organised an awareness programme for the 60 children of LBEAAR School, Nerkundram in Chennai on 26th November.

The programme included ses-sions on general safety, home safety, road safety, electrical safety, environmental aware-ness and waste management. The programme received an overwhelming response from the school children and the management. A quiz com-petition and a sapling planta-tion activity was also organ-ised during this event.

L&T Construction’s CMRL - Ballastless Track Works pro-ject team organised a Safety Awareness Programme for the management and stu-dents of LBEAAR School at Nerkundram in Chennai. The initiative was a part of the site’s CSR programme in

The Project Manager, Mr. S. K. Dey in presence of the Headmaster, the teaching staff and the village Sarpanch donated 30 sets of Tables and Benches to the school. Sta-tionaries kits were also given to 90 students in the school.

Also, 150 saplings were planted in the periphery of the school. The students were made aware of the im-portance and value of trees in daily life.

educating the nearby com-munity on general safety. The topics covered during the day’s session included general awareness, being safe while at road, home, handling electrical appli-ances, environmental aware-ness and waste management.

TCS Adibatla project along with DRF provides opportunity for learning to 55 children

Raheja Aranya City project team reaches out to Government High School

TCS Adibatla project at Hy-derabad in association with Dr. Reddy’s Foundation (DRF is a non-profit partner of Dr. Reddy’s Laborato-ries) has taken an initiative to provide the opportunity for learning to the work-men’s children who have never been to school, or have dropped out of it, by setting up a facility in the labour camp area at site.

The facilities set-up by L&T include toilets, clean drink-ing water, nutritional food two times a day, two teachers to monitor the kids, learning material for the children and teaching aid for the teachers. L&T is also supporting DRF in mobilizing the children to attend classes by counselling

The team at Raheja Aranya City project in Sohna, Gur-gaon reached out to the chil-dren of Government High School in Lakhwas Village, Sohna on 19th November. The site team donated sweat-ers and stationary items to 52 children. 6 ceiling fans and one water tank of 1000 litre capacity were also donated to this school which imparts ed-ucation to children belonging to backward communities.

A safety quiz was also or-ganised for the students and the school management. The programme received over-whelming response from the participants. The winners were awarded saplings and prizes.

Comprehensive eye screening camp at Palacode benefited 592 people

Anti-tetanus vaccination given to 500 workmen at Badarpur- Faridabad DMRC Project

2200 workmen educated on pre-hospital care in the event of trauma at LTHMRP

Tata Steel Project site organ-ized a free medical camp for the workmen between 27th August and 24th September at JCAPCPL / F-Blast Fur-nace / LD # 1 Projects in side TATA STEEL Plant.

Over 2600 workmen were screened for general health and fitness along with eye screening by a team of doc-tors from Family Planning Association of India along with Dr.S.K.Duttahis team from Jamshedpur.

The medical camp was inau-gurated by Mr.Rakesh Ku-mar – Head Projects – TATA STEEL, along with Dr. K.M.Gandhi of FPAI.

Hogenakkal Water Supply & Fluorosis Mitigation Project team conducted a compre-hensive eye camp at Pala-code on 24th November in association with Arvind Eye Hospital, Madurai and Lions Club, Palacode for the work-men and the general public. The screening was held at Aringar Anna Elementary School, Palacode.

L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Project (LTHMRP) observed World trauma day on 17th Oc-tober at its major work sites. Nine super specialists in or-tho and neuro surgery from renowned hospitals along with the in -house medical consultant addressed over 2200 workmen on the impor-tance of pre-hospital care in the event of trauma.

The doctors emphasized on the importance of saving and protecting a life during the most critical moments and preparing and applying criti-cal measures to deal with and avoid trauma fatalities.

The techniques to be used within 3 minutes of trauma i.e Golden minutes was dem-onstrated to the participants.(Support to neck and assist-ing breathing; Controlling bleeding with pressure pads; Log lifting and shifting the patient to the nearest Hos-pital in a stabilized condition as early as possible)

Fathepur - Laxmangarh Wa-ter Supply Project in Ra-jasthan provided a much needed solace for the school children by distributing sweaters with the onset of winter. The project team gave 100 woollen sweaters to the students of Government Girls Upper Primary School on 26th November 2013.

On 11th December, GIDC Water Supply Project, Bharuch organised a health camp for the drivers, opera-tors, workmen and the local residents at site.

Comprehensive screening including blood examination was carried out by a team of medical professionals. Eye screening was also a part of this programme. 90 people benefited from this camp.

Free eye screening camp was organized in association with Titan Eye+ and Sankar Nethralaya on 30th December at ITC Sonar Project site. The event was organized with the intention of making people realize the importance of protecting their vi-sion and caring for their eyes.

Steel Service Centre donates 200 saplings to PSBB Millennium School

Anticipating the forth coming winters, Bungi Rajgarh WSP at Rajasthan distributed woollen sweaters to the needy school going children at Narwasi Village on 29th November.

92 children were given sweaters at the Government Secondary School, Narwasi Village, Raj-garh Tehsil, Rajasthan. Also, during this event 200 saplings were planted in the school premises by the children, teachers, villagers and the site team. The site team created awareness among the children on the need for protecting the environment.

On 16th October, the staff at Steel Service Centre, Chen-nai donated 200 saplings to PSBB Millennium School at OMR in Chennai.

With the aim of inculcat-ing the habit of environment protection and nurturing the natural habitat, the site team presented the saplings to the headmistress Mrs.Hamavethy and the school children to plant in the new premises of the school.

Chennai Metro team successfully transplants a 159 year old Banyan Tree

After two weeks, new leafs sprouted on the restored tree.

It was a very special and satisfying moment for the Metro Tunnelling team of CMRL project in accomplishing the suc-cessful transplantation of the 159 year old banyan tree at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) station premises.

The recent incessant rains had uprooted the colossal tree. A request was made by KCM author-ities to CMRL MD to render neces-sary assistance to save the tree by trans-planting it to another location.

The transplantation process was evolved after consulting with environmental specialist and horticulturalist. CMRL authorities, L&T staff and workmen, Tamil Nadu Fire Service personnel, staff and students of KMC were involved in the restora-tion activity.

A huge pit was dug with 15m circumference and 5m depth. The branches of the tree were cut and medicine was applied to cut ends of the branches and hormones to root ends. The tree had a girth of 11m and weighed 20 tonnes after removing all branches. With the help of a 50 tones hydraulic crane, the tree was lifted and transplanted in to the pit with proper support.

The whole operation was completed in 48 hrs. L&T’s project team played a vital role in restoring the tree which is revered by KMC authorities. CMRL MD appreciated L&T’s efforts and awarded the crane and JCB operators who were involved in the operation.

Metro tunneling Chennai project team appreciated for its Green Belt Development effortsMetro tunnelling Chennai (L&T SUCG JV) team was thrilled by the appreciation certificates presented to them by the General Consultant, CMRL and Kilpauk Medical College for the Green Belt Development and other CSR efforts taken by the project team in and around Chennai.

Recently, the team success-ful transplanted a 159 year old Banyan Tree at Kilpauk Medical College premises which was uprooted by the recent incessant rains.

This is the first appreciation given by the General Con-sultant, CMRL since the in-ception of Chennai Metro Project and the L&T team was the first to receive it among 23 contractors. A health camp was organized for children of Government High School in Kolapakkam, Chennai on 7th November 2013. In this camp, general health, blood group identi-fication and eye screening was conducted for the school children. Two lab technicians took blood samples from the children stored them rightly for analysis in the Prayas Medical Centre Laboratory. The ophthalmologists from Uma Eye Clinic, Anna Nagar checked every child’s vision. 23 students had problems with their vision. On 28th November, 19 students were taken to Uma Eye Clinic for further treatment and 8 of them were prescribed glass-es. Prayas doctors conducted the general checkup and pre-scribed medicines. The phar-macist handed over the medi-cines to the children based on the prescription.

After the health camp, the Prayas members visited the classrooms and presented stationary items and pastries to the children. 218 children benefited from this camp out of which 122 were male and 96 female.

Prayas presented salwar sets and sweets for the girls. Be-ing in their midst, happiness knew no bounds, exclaimed the members!

PT&D IC projects team in UAE joined hands with EEG (Emirates Environmental Group) on 12th December in a cleaning up campaign. This campaign titled UAE Clean-up Campaign 2013 was aimed at garbage segregation and collecting unwanted materials while enjoying the beauty of nature without disturbing its natural habitat. As many as 60 L&Tites were involved in cleaning up Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai along with other corporates, individuals and school chil-dren.

It was a very different experience for the team and it helped in team bonding while serving a societal cause.

In the Joy of Giving Week 2013, ECC Recreation Club at Chennai HQ collected Rs. 1,61,350/- in cash

along with clothes, toys and books and gave it to five NGOs- GLRA India, PRAYAS Trust, Sri Arunodayam, RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust and UDHAVI.
