TYPE OF MATERIAL SUITABILITY ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES COST
PLYWOOD(TRADITIONAL)
-For almost common construction and regular shape-except for superstructure-For construction that is located in a hot weather due to its characteristic(Easily broken if moisture)
- Can easily be cut to shape on site- can be used many times if stored properly- available in various size- can facilitate bending with thinner plywood- less costly
- short life span- can be damage by water- time consuming- weaker than timber - longer pieces may cause bend -
-Cheapest-Ingredient is easy to get and it’s easy to model the panels.
TIMBER(TRADITIONAL)
-Suitable for slab construction-For specific irregular shapes.-For huge construction or high level but not exciding 4 level.
- can easily be cut to size - easy handling- can be easily assembled and disassembled- faulty part can be replaced- can be easily produced
- short life span- limited reuse capability- absorb moisture from wet concrete thus leading to weaker concrete- wet timber formwork will shrink- shrinking can cause leakage- high labor cost- time consuming for larger structure
Cheaper than steel-The transportation fees. The cost of getting the ingredients.

TYPE OF MATERIAL SUITABILITY ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES COST
ALUMINIUM
-Suitable for rapid construction-for area that is not suitable to crane or heavy lifting equipment to enter.
- strong- high durability- light weight- fewer supports and ties are required- less skilled labor needed- can be construct in short time
- lighter section will deflect more- greater transportation cost due to large pieces- no flexibility- cannot be shape on site- High risk of theft
-Cheaper than steel and timber formwork-The panels can be reuse around 280 times-Easy to transport so will lower the transportation fees.
STEEL
-Suitable for superstructure -For higher floor and level construction.
- strong and durable- long life span- can be installed and dismantled in great speed- can be reused for few times- smooth surfaces- very strong- does not absord moisture from concrete-does not shrink or warp
- limited size- limited shape- no flexibility- high transportation cost
-The most expensive-The costing of the panels and the process of making the panels.-Transportation fees is the highest due to its mass

PLASTIC (GRP)
-Suitable for building concrete wall, basement, column, slab, etc.-For special shape of building as plastic formwork panels are easier to model into specific shape.
- lightweight- can be easily cut to size and nailed - can be reused many times- resistant to pest - can be used to do complicated concrete shape
- easily damaged when exposed to heat- complicated concrete shape require the right and accurate design and planning of this formwork
-Cheaper than steel, timber and aluminum but more expensive than plywood-Ingredient is easy to be found and can be reuse around 100 times.-Panels are easy to model into shapes-Mass is lightest so the transportation fees is lower.
