CULTURE by Design Clear Purpose

The purpose of a Culture by Design is to realize people’s full potential to contribute, achieve, grow and evolve, and for organizations to realize their highest aspirations in terms of shaping a better and brighter future for the community they serve.

New Identity

A culture by design creates a distinctive new identity for the people within the organization to align with and build a new sense of home around. This is particularly significant following a disruption such as a merger integration or the appointment of a new CEO. It gives people a sense of place within a defined set of values and standards, as well as aspirations and goals that are inspiring and meaningful.

Conscious Intention

To design and build an empowering, inspiring, positive, customer-centric, values-based, high performance leadership culture where all of the people contribute proactively and directly to the Council’s success.

Strategic Outcomes

The senior executive leaders engage residents and businesses in the community to give voice to the development of a shared vision for their community that is aspirational, clear and pragmatic.

The senior executive leaders develop the strategic outlook and capacity to confidently represent and progress significant matters important to local and regional communities.

Councils are able to meet the needs of the community by evolving into a robust, flexible and capable organization that adapts and delivers, performs and evolves.

Residents and businesses enjoy their customer experience when using Council services, information and infrastructure. It is an efficient, convenient and satisfying experience. It is an enjoyable experience for all.

Culture by Design Proven Leadership and People Outcomes Senior Executives make a full stage shift to Authentic, Integral Leadership Capacity in a single year.

This takes their leadership capacity beyond the Achiever only attained by some 15% of executives worldwide. Authentic Integral Leadership enables senior executives to lead based on purpose and principles, to hold open and meaningful dialogue with the divergent range of interests in their community in order to develop a shared vision, transcend conflict and progress significant local and regional issues, as well as build trust in the evolutionary development of a thriving, sustainable, collaborative community.

EVIDENCE

Twelve senior executives from amongst a coaching cadre of 50+ senior executives, agreed to participate in my PhD Research Study. Nine were calibrated as having a >80% Achiever action logic at the beginning of a 12-month Coaching Program made up of 12*90-min monthly coaching meetings.

Surprisingly and inspiringly, each of the nine participants shifted a full stage in their development at the end of the period. Most shifted to Catalyst (Authentic Leadership) and one direct to Strategist (Integral Leadership) with another knocking on its door.

This enables your Senior Leaders to become high performing Achievers exercising creative leadership. People Engagement lifts by 30% from the 30th to the 60th percentile in 6 months following Launch.

People Engagement is a key measurable outcome to the design and build of a positive customer-centric values-based leadership culture. People Engagement is highly contingent on their understanding and trust in the strategic leadership of the senior executive team and their engagement and empowerment by their senior leaders to make an effective contribution and realize outstanding results for customers.

EVIDENCE

The 1,000 employees and contractors within the newly formed Businesslink NSW with the responsibility to provide business services to more than 22,000 departmental employees within FACS and other departments, were brought together under a new identity and mission: From Good to Great with the aspirational goal to realize >80% Customer Satisfaction.

Proposal to Build a Culture by Design STRATEGIC DIRECTION

To create an overarching strategic direction for the Council by setting an inspiring Purpose, a Vision for a thriving, vibrant, sustainable regional community, the Strategic Shifts in Performance and Culture essential to realize the Purpose and Vision, a set of Strategic Outcomes with measurable KPIs to monitor performance, a set of Values to guide behaviour and a set of Principles to guide decision-making.

This liberating structure frames the current planning processes for the Council. They focus on the WHY and the HOW, to enable the WHAT: the agreed initiatives and activities in the various strategic and operational planning frameworks to be implemented with confidence and enthusiasm. Instead of relying on driving performance outcomes, the contribution from each individual is uplifted and energised.

HOLISTIC LEADERSHIP

To enable the organization to realize optimal outcomes and become a high performing enterprise, it is essential that each level of the organization operates at a level appropriate to their scope of activities.

All people take responsibility as active, positive contributors to customer-centric outcomes delivering on projects and deadlines as dedicated teams of professionals and technical specialists.

All senior leaders take accountability as creative leaders in charge of managing operations to ensure that problems are solved early, interpersonal dynamics are attended to and resolved, people are able to adapt quickly to new situations and desired outcomes are achieved.

All senior executives appreciate and model their role as leaders in the organization and community by setting shared direction, engaging actively with their people and collaborating widely across the broader community with the people’s appointed representatives, state-wide and national stakeholders.

Four Phases

PHASE ONE – SET-UP (stepping in/consulting)

Strategic Offsites with the Executive Team to set the strategic frameworks for strategic direction and values-based leadership, and cascade these frameworks by way of Team Charters for each Division

Strategic Consulting Advice for the Executive Team and particularly CEO and GM HR with regard to internal communications and employee development, performance and recognition frameworks.

PHASE TWO – ROLL-OUT ~ MONTHLY WORKSHOPS (continuing coaching)

One-on-one Executive Coaching for each Senior Executive and the Senior Executive Team

During the first phase the focus is on consulting with the CEO and GM HR, setting up the frameworks with the Executive Team and cascading these in consultation with their Executive Leaders to Divisional Management Teams. We decide on the nature and timing for the Culture by Design rollout.

During successive stages in the second phase, we focus on strategic priorities and leadership development through workshop engagements with the Senior Executive, Senior Leaders, Change Champions and all employees.

Workshops are optimized by having orchestrated a rollout approach for the year ahead at the initial engagement with the CEO, GM HR and Senior Executive Team e.g.

Moving Up the Leadership Spiral As we move up the leadership spiral, we take the strengths of previous stages with us and shed light on the shadow embodied in each so it loses its power over us. This is the development of conscious awareness. At each stage we become freer to be our true selves and our leadership presence expands.

We shift from Dependence to Independence, Interdependence and onto Transcendence. This continuum is reflected in our early focus on the external world, to our postconventional understanding of our inner world when we are the masterpiece-in-progress. Our View of the world expands as we go up the spiral enabling us to openly embrace conflict and diversity.

Join-the-SHIFT from an Ego-centric world to an Eco-centric world! This involves seeing the world differently. Beyond the Achiever, life happens through us and not just to us. Our life experience is a projection of our conscious thoughts and intentions, and a reflection of our subconscious fears and beliefs. Life is a Movie and a Mirror, and can be Magical! MINDSET The Global Leadership Profile

This is a Sentence Completion Exercise that reveals our inner beliefs, attitudes and perspective.

It evaluates the extent to which we utilize the various action logics, mindsets or worldviews of progressive stages of development and transformation.

The Profile offers a comprehensive 30-page Report outlining the strengths, challenges and power dynamics associated with our current centre-of-gravity, as well as our emergent and fallback action logics.

BEHAVIOUR The Holistic Leadership Profile

This is a Self-Assessment against a series of behaviours connected to our style of leadership: doing, thinking, relating and creating, at progressive stages of leadership.

The Profile offers a detailed report on both leadership style and stage, outlining Strengths, Stressors, Blind Spots and Stretches.

It also invites you to evaluate your perspective in relation to the Energy Fields of our Life Experience to illuminate iterative patterns and emergent possibilities.

CULTURE The Leadership Circle Profile

This is either a Team Culture Profile or an Individual 360 assessment of your strengths, reactive patterns and aspirations.

The bottom half of the Circle reflects our Reactive Patterns in relation to Controlling, Compliance and Protecting, while the top half represents our Creative Talents identifies those capabilities that distinguish top performers from the average.

The Profile also calibrates the extent to which you are able to balance Task and Relationship. It is based on a global normed database that evaluates your overall Leadership Effectiveness.

STRUCTURE The Operating System Review

This is an Assessment of your current Operating System in terms of how it is currently encouraging or inhibiting your ability to operate as a high performance enterprise.

The Review assesses the extent to which your management processes and leadership practices are designed to unlock your productivity and creativity, and engage and empower others.

By evaluating the seven dimensions of your current Operating System, we are able to customize your Culture by Design Program to focus on key strategic elements.

Professional Fees

Professional fees are relative to the intensity of the engagement.

Standard Professional Fees

Single one-day Strategic Workshop (or part thereof including pre- and post-workshop) $5,000+GST

Single two-day Strategic Workshop (including pre- and post-workshop $10,000+GST

Single 12-month 12* 90-min One-on-One Executive Coaching Program $15,000+GST

Reduced Professional Fees

A continuing week-long monthly engagement as outlined above reduces the weekly rate to $12,500+GST.

Each day from midday Monday through to midday Friday can be optimized to incorporate one-on-one coaching and consulting, facilitation of strategic workshops and values-based leadership development.

This fee includes all preparation and the design of workshop materials prior to the week’s engagement and post-documentation as relevant. We ask you to be responsible for printing and venue bookings.

Over a period of 12 months, this could involve 12 week-long engagements including some split weeks where appropriate. This would amount to a total investment of $150,000+GST or $12,500+GST per month.

Spread every four-six weeks over an 15-month period, the investment drops to $10,000+GST per month although the opportunity to realize the proven outcomes may also take a little longer. We can customize the rollout in terms of content and timing to meet your specific needs and work around holiday periods.

Additional expenses include economy travel, overnight accommodation and incidental expenses.
