Honorees were announced for The Post-Star’s 2020 Teen Excellence Awards. This year,

the annual program honored 24 students between the ages of 13 and 19 who have demonstrated

personal growth, leadership, innovation and a commitment to the community. Warrensburg

High School’s own Sydney Gerrain and Serena Larose were amongst those 24 honored students.

Beginning in October, teachers, coaches, youth group leaders, church leaders, education-

al administrators and employers were invited to nominate teens who they believe are the young

leaders of tomorrow and serve as exceptional role models in their schools, jobs, communities and

beyond.

“The Post-Star is honored and humbled yet again by the absolute quality of the nomina-

Dear Families,

I want to take a moment to say thank you to all of our families and our entire school

staff for making the best of an unbelievable situation. I never anticipated being away from school

and “in person” instruction for this long, and I hope it doesn’t continue. Our staff continues to

try to provide the best education possible, given the circumstances.

We will continue to go above and beyond to provide meaningful instruction until we

return. Should you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher, their

school counselor or me via email or a call to school. We will do our best to answer all of your

questions.

Please remember - if we all do our part, it will be helpful in reducing the number of local

cases, and we will get back to school sooner.

Stay Safe,

Students prepare to support their fellow classmates on the “Rock Wall”

The “Dangling Duo”

Project Adventure utilizes the Experiential Learning Cycle which includes concrete experi-

ence, reflective observation, abstract conceptu-alization and active experimentation. Learners are actively engaged in solving problems, using

creativity, posing questions, interacting with others, experimenting, and taking responsibil-ity for themselves and others to find meaning in their experiences. Project Adventure's main focus is not about

every student getting to the top of the wall or walking across a swaying balance beam 30 feet in the air. It is about students taking owner-ship of their own experience through challenge

by choice. This concept acknowledges that eve-ry one is different, in their past experiences, strengths and weaknesses, physical ability, and emotional state. An activity that might not be intimidating to one person (such as climbing a 6ft lad-der) could paralyze another with fear. Eve-ry student is given the opportunity to be a part of a relay team, ensuring the safety of their fel-low classmates. It's really great to see the stu-dents utilize their strengths to help each other achieve a common goal. Check out the pictures of Project Adventure in action by some of our own students.

24 Hours: A Photographic Interpretation of Life in the Adirondacks is a contest for high school students in public and

private schools within the Adirondack Park. This is the 11th year of this program, which draws entries from throughout the

region. Students are invited to submit two photographs taken during any specified hour or hours of the day, and are

encouraged to move their view beyond traditional landscape subjects – though they also qualify for submission – to subjects

that relate to their own daily lives.

From the several hundred submissions received, about 40 “winning” photographs are selected by a juror who is

either a professional photographer or a curator working with the genre of art photography. The juror also gives personal

feedback to the winning photographers.

This year’s juror is Sarah Sweeney. She received her BA in Studio Art from Williams College and an MFA in Digital

Media from Columbia University School of the Arts and is currently Associate Professor of Art at Skidmore College. She is the

creator of The Forgetting Machine, an iPhone app commissioned by the new media organization Rhizome. Her work has

appeared nationally and internationally in exhibitions at many locations. Past jurors have included professional landscape

photographer John Di Giacomo and Kate Menconeri, former Chief Curator at the Center for Photography Woodstock.

The selected photographs will be exhibited at Lake Placid Public Library, the Adirondack Health Center in Saranac

Lake, and on the LPI webpage devoted to the 24 Hours Exhibition. (Lake Placid Institute for the Arts & Humanities, 2020)* Congratulations to our Warrensburg students for their winning photographs shown below.

“The picture that I took was at 12:51 am on June 19th, which is my birthday. That night I was at my dad’s house in Thurman, and I was camping outside on the lawn. I was in a huge tent that night. The moon was shining very brightly through the clouds. As I peered out of the tent, I saw the swing set from when I was little. It looked very spooky in the dark. Also strange was the solar lights in the background, which appeared to be float-ing because the poles were hidden in the dark. I took this picture because the lighting was so interesting.”

“White waters was taken at my aunt's house. I went outside and the sun and clouds looked beautiful and the way the sun reflected off from the river just made it a perfect time to take a photo. I had to walk through a foot of snow to get close enough to take the photo, but in the end it was worth it because to me the photo came out perfect ”

This year’s Senior Ball is tentatively scheduled for May 30, 2020 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on The Mohican through The Lake George Steamboat Company.

Look for more information in May’s newsletter and/or on Facebook.

Our spring recess begins early due to the COVID 19 precautions. School will be closed from March 23 to April 19 and will resume on April 20, 2020 depending on the status of COVID 19 precautions. Take some time to relax and regroup. Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air!

I hope this newsletter finds everyone safe and healthy. The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly had an effect on all of our lives, including our spring sports season. At the time of this newsletter, there really isn’t a lot of new information to present in regards to the spring sports season. All practices and/or contests are currently sus-pended until at least April 20th. NYSPHSAA and Section 2 will be making decisions later in April on status of the spring sports season. In the meantime, here some things our student-athletes can be doing to stay ready for their season when we return:

1. Stay active - your coaches and I encourage everyone to stay active during this extended absence from school and practices. Please be sure you are practicing all social distancing guidelines during your workouts.

2. Skill development - if possible, continue to work on the skills necessary for your sport with a sibling or parent. Playing catch, hitting a tennis ball, or going for a run will help you stay sharp for your season while we

are away from team practices.

3. Take care of yourself- make sure you are taking care of yourself by practicing social distancing, getting

proper nutrition and hydration, and getting enough sleep at night. You should be doing the best you can do main-tain a normal daily schedule in these crazy times.

4. Academics - make sure you are staying current with all of your school work. I know the virtual or

online learning is new for everyone, teachers and students, but do the best you can to stay on top of all of your classes. E-mail your teachers if you need help.

SCHEDULE GALAXY

Right now, the current schedules on Schedule Galaxy are not accurate. Once decisions about the spring

sports season are made by the Adirondack League, Section 2, and NYSPHSAA, those schedules will be updated to reflect schedule changes.

I sincerely hope that everyone remains safe and healthy these next few weeks. When updates become avail-able, we will post them on the school website. We are all hopeful for a return to school and the playing field as

soon as possible.

Warrensburg Jr/Sr. High School is proud of its Football Team this year (pictured above)! Congratulations to them on their achievements!

APRIL GUIDANCE NOTES

Dear Students and Families,

We hope that you are all staying healthy and have been able to keep up with your school work the best you can.

With these unusual circumstances, Mrs. Landers and Mrs.

Mossing are continuing to meet with students to select courses for next year through Google Meets and phone calls. In addition to

meeting individually, we have set up office hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 am - 12 pm on Google Hangouts.

Please feel free to email us with any concerns, and make sure

you are taking care of yourselves.

The 11th grade class received an email letting them know that

the April and May SAT and ACT exams have been cancelled. As of today, the June exams are still taking place. Should that change,

Mrs. Landers will let you know.

Please remember to check your school email daily as this is the best form of communication.

Stay healthy and safe!!

Mrs. Landers and Mrs. Mossing
