A Message from the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you have all had a refreshing break and are ready for the new school term. We have

the Gunnedah Eisteddfod, cross country running, NAPLAN and Mothers’ Day coming up, plus lots more! Thank you to

everyone who participated in the Curlewis ANZAC Day march. I received many compliments on your behalf and I was

very proud of each student who was there on the day.

Jacqui Jones

School Principal

Important Information for the Next Fortnight Holiday Reading:

Holiday reading is due back tomorrow. All students who return their

holiday reading and have read for 10 or more nights will get a ‘Molly

Mays style’ milkshake on Thursday!

Active After School:

Term 2 Active After School is Little Athletics. Participation notes went home last term. In Term 2 Active After School

will begin in Week 1 and finish in Week 10.

Mother’s Day High Tea:

You will find an invitation to the Mother’s Day High Tea in your green folder. All

female carers are welcome to attend and as we are organising catering, please

rsvp via the slip attached by Monday 6th May.

AECG Meeting:

Curlewis will again host a local meeting for the NSW Aboriginal Education

Consultative Group on Thursday 9th May at 4pm. This is a great opportunity to find out more about opportunities and

strategies for Aboriginal Education as well as contribute ideas you might have to get involved! We are hoping to make

more chances for family and friends to contribute to the cultural learning of all our students, so please come along

and share your ideas and see how you could get involved.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser:

Make sure to get your Krispy Kreme orders and money in by this Friday, 3rd May!

Order and pay online at www.trybooking.com/494376 or drop cash into the

school office. The doughnuts will be back in Curlewis on Saturday 18th May.

Fantastic Friday:

You would have received the new Term 2 Menu just before the holidays, and it starts this Friday, 3rd May. Don’t forget

that orders and money must be at the school office each Friday morning by 9am. If possible, please use a brown paper

bag to write your child’s order on, then slip the money inside. This will save our P&C helpers’ time. Thank you so much!

Mothers’ Day Stall:

Take the stress out of shopping for Mothers’ Day and let us handle it! We will have our little shop open on Friday 10th

May for the students to make their purchases for their mums or nans. There will be a beautiful range of gifts available

for $5 or $8 each, with a limit of 1 gift per student for mum, plus one nan/mum gift if you would like.

P&C Meeting:

Our next P&C meeting will be Tuesday 7th May at 4pm in the Breeza Room. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Anzac Day Tradition What is Anzac Day? Anzac Day, 25 April, is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first

major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

Australians recognise 25 April as a day of national remembrance, which takes two forms. Commemorative services

are held across the nation at dawn – the time of the original landing, while later in the day, former servicemen and

servicewomen meet to take part in marches through the country’s major cities and in many smaller centres.

Commemorative ceremonies are more formal, and are held at war memorials around the country. In these ways,

Anzac Day is a time at which Australians reflect on the many different meanings of war.

THIS WEEK’S QUIZ

In what year did the ANZACs first land at Gallipoli?
