KPMG first produced its Survey of Corporate Responsibility Reporting in 1993. The 9th (2015) edition analyses reporting from 4,500 companies in 45 countries as well as taking a deep-dive look at reporting from the world’s 250 largest companies

CR reporting becomes the norm, driven by regulationReporting on corporate responsibility is now standard business practice around the world. Around ¾ of companies now report on corporate responsibility compared with only 12 percent back in 1993.

It is also becoming standard practice to include corporate responsibility data in the annual reports. A majority of the 4,500 companies analysed do this.

There has been rapid growth in corporate responsibility in Asia Pacific. In 2011 less than half of companies in this region reported. In 2015, 79 percent do: a higher rate than other regions.

Emerging economies have the highest corporate responsibility reporting rates in the world. In many cases this is driven by mandatory reporting regulation from governments or stock exchanges.

Uptake of integrated reporting is slowOnly 11 percent of the reports analysed in 2015 state that they are integrated compared with 10 percent in the 2011 Survey. The top countries for integrated reports are as follows.

The Survey also looks at the quality of reporting on carbon from the world’s 250 largest companies. This is a topical issue because of the 21st annual UN Climate Talks in Paris 30 November – 11 December 2015.

Most G250 companies report on carbon4 out of 5 of the world’s largest companies do publish information on their carbon emissions. German and British companies are most likely to do so.
