Moreover, variation in the allocation of budgets over various types of community school activities are used to explore various explanations for these benefits. evaluating the use of a webbased module for individual training at home and a quasi-experimental study looking into class-based remedial teaching. Improvements of tracking advice In the academic track of Dutch secondary education, pupils are advised over tracking between lower and higher secondary education. This project looks into various ways to develop these advices and evaluates their relative efficiency in terms of the learning outcomes of pupils (grade retention, early school leaving). The distributional impact of family policy (with Wim Van Lancker, Gerlinde Verbist, Josefine Vanhille, Dieter Vandelanoote, Pieter Vanleenhove) This project entails three perspectives on the topic. First, it develops country analyses of the social distribution of the current use of family policy measures (childcare, parental leave, tax benefits for children), highlighting how the various recipes used to activate young mothers relate to social position. Second, it develops a policy swapping exercise to study the likely impact of changes in family policy when moving away from the directive character of current family policy in Belgium and Germany. Third, it looks into the impact of rationing of three types of childcare services (market services, subsidized services and informal care) on maternal employment. Research interests: Evaluation of educational policy measures (mostly school level) Labour economics and gender relations Welfare economics relating to social and educational policy Teaching experience: I was initially hired by the faculty of Political and Social Sciences (University of Antwerp) as a teaching assistant for Economics courses. For several years, I was responsible for exercises classes in Macro-Economics (first year students) and Micro-Economics (second year students). After obtaining my Ph.D., I was asked to become the academic responsible for Labour Economics at the VOSEB-initiative, a training programme for labour union representatives. In the academic years 2003-2004 and 2004-2005, I participated in the training programme with an applied labour economics course. In the year 2007-2008, I have co-ordinated the introductory course in Sociology. Moreover, I have been invited to give guest lectures at the university of Ghent (economics students) and Maastricht University (social policy students). In 2004-2005 I have been teaching Micro-Economics (theory and exercises) in the faculty of Political and Social Sciences. In 2005-2006 and 2008-2009, I have taught Labour Economics in the faculty of Economics. Finally, I have offered a seminar on Gender Issues to second year students in the academic years 2003-2004 and 2009-2010.
