Year 9 Students will study a combination

of subjects that are aligned with either the

Australian Curriculum or the current

Curriculum Framework.

Currently, Phase 1 subjects are

implemented at Lake Joondalup Baptist

College. Phase 2 and 3 will follow as they

are developed and ratified.

At LJBC, subjects in Lower Secondary are

designed to prepare students for the new

Australian Curriculum aligned courses for Year 11

and Year 12 for the WACE in 2016.

Health & Physical Education

– compulsory component

All students will participate in Health & Physical

Education in Year 9.

The subject aims to provide the knowledge and

skills for students to pursue healthy lifestyle

choices and decisions.

• Basic introduction to Careers

• Students understand factors that underpin career development

• Students will investigate career development opportunities

• Students understand how aspects of the changing world and technology advances impacts on career development opportunities

• Identify and pursue training that will lead to a career pathway that will be ‘fun’!

Duration of an elective subject

• Students are expected to enrol in an elective

subject for the full year

• Students will only be permitted to change out of an

elective mid-way through the year if there are

serious mitigating circumstances and only if there

are available places in the alternative subject

• Students in Year 9 may change electives in Year 10

• All electives do prepare students for Senior

Students will learn a variety of skills to experience

outdoor activities, to build interpersonal and

leadership skills and to understand and apply

safety in indoor and outdoor activities.

Future Problem Solversby invitation from the

Learning Enhancement Centre

For Year 9 students, this is an international education

program that focusses on the development of critical,

creative and futuristic thinking skills.

It challenges students to apply their imagination and

thinking skills to some of the most significant issues facing

the world today.

Japanese

Students will develop a better understanding of Japanese people and their culture and feel encouraged in their attempts to speak, listen, read and write in Japanese.

French

Students will develop a better understanding of the use of French language, Francophone culture and its people through the appropriate context of informal and formal language.

Economics

Students study resource allocation and making choices as well as consumer and financial literacy. They are introduced to the market system.

Geography

Students explore and analyse major Biomes nationally and globally. Students studying Geography are challenged to develop strategies to preserve our valuable world.

Politics and Law

Students will study the Australian Political and legal system, legal issues and political activism.
