Milk bars had long counters where people stood to order
meals and drinks.
Milk bars and cafes
After they had done their shopping, families
sometimes stopped at a milk bar or cafe
for a special treat. They ordered toasted
sandwiches, hamburgers and drinks.
The milk bar counter was lined with glass
jars full of all sorts of lollies. Milkshakes
were served in tall glasses and ice-cream
was served in metal bowls.
