I have a great interest in science and computers. I have always had an inquisitive mind when it comes to technology. There is a very distinctive passion when it comes to computers and IT with me, whether it is installing new software, enhancing computers to run faster, installing new hardware or refurbishing them.
I love working with computers and technological gadgets and enjoy creating and building new ideas that come to mind as I am a very hands on person. I also enjoy working with a group of people if the task requires it, yet I am happy to work by myself. I enjoy trying to solve a problem by myself at first but if I need help or assistance I will not be shy to seek it.
I began my working experience at Investec Private Bank at the age of 19 years old. When I began this venture I had a lot to learn but with my passion for computers and technology I fitted in perfectly. I was a fast learner as to what the requirements were of me for the job and was eager to start learning straight away. For me I was at Investec seeking experience. However I not only got the experience I was looking for in terms of IT in the corporate sector, but I experienced what it was like to work at Investec with a team.
Through my experience at Investec I was able to gain a sense of purpose and ownership as I had been given tasks that were of a challenge to me, but I was able to use each task and experience as a learning lesson in which I further developed my skills.
For me the key to success is to build a relationship with others, take responsibility for my actions and thirdly ask questions when I am unsure of something. My late uncle once told me to “never be shy to speak to someone” and that I must “build a network of friends and colleagues”. I do this whenever possible as I never know what the future holds and love meeting new people and having new experiences.
