Education with Developing new state standards for secondary school teachers of foreign languages

• Drafted document of agreement for Sister City agreement between Segovia, Spain and Tucson, Arizona, and coordinated the visits of the Tucson Sister City Delegation to Segovia, in July, 1998 and the Segovia Sister City delegation, including the Mayor of Segovia to Tucson, in November, 1999. I am now vice-chair of the Segovia, Tucson Sister City Committee.

Drama Founder, faculty advisor and director, Grupo Experimental de Teatro, Michigan State University 1979-1994. Responsible for presentation of numerous Hispanic plays to university and mid-Michigan audiences. In addition, the group has been recognized with invitations to perform at the University of Kentucky, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Oakland University, Kalamazoo College, the AATSP Convention, and at the recent international symposium on Spanish theater organized by the journal Estreno. Among the plays the group has presented are: Historia del hombre que se convirtió en perro, El apuntador, La zapatera prodigiosa, Tres sombreros de copa, Los malcasados de Valencia, Los esclavos, Doña Rosita la soltera, El convidado, Maribel y la extraña familia, Ud. tiene ojos de mujer fatal, Farsa del amor compradito and Don Juan Tenorio. • Designed and taught Spanish 195A, Freshman Colloquium. First taught Spring 1996 and

four times subsequently. This course introduces students to the reading of Hispanic texts, taught in English translation and serves as a transition to university-level work in literature and Hispanic Studies. It incorporates a great degree of web-based material, which can be viewed at http://ww.gened.arizona.edu/span195.

• Redesigned Spanish 501, Introduction to Graduate Studies. The home page for this class

• Redesigned a number of courses in the Spanish curriculum to include a considerable emphasis on cultural studies and film. This included the joint offering of Spanish 571 with CCLS 552 in the Spring of 1999 and 2002 on the Urban Experience, the first time a course in Spanish has been jointly convened with one in CCLS.

• Designed and taught new course "Spanish Dramatic Expression" as an alternative to normal conversation courses. It was mentioned in the Chronicle of Higher Education 7 January 1980: 3.

• Designed and implemented new instructional model for first-year Spanish instruction.

Model provided for large group lectures, and small intensive practice sessions. I taught large group sessions in this new model and had supervisory control over the program, including the seven graduate assistants working with me, Winter, Spring and Fall, 1980.

• Designed pilot project to include more material on the social sciences in Latin American in

second-year Spanish language curriculum. (With grant support from CASID)

• Designed (with Laurence Porter) and teach Proseminar in Literary Theory, a required doctoral level course in literary theory for students in French and Spanish.
