Pending Research Projects Grant Name: Infrastructure for Establishing a Hispanic/Latina Breast Cancer Survivorship Cohort Funding Agency: National Cancer Institute Role: Lead Principal Investigator Percent effort: 30% Annual Direct Costs: $1,671,364 Period of Funding: 2017-2022 Description: Invasive breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy and the leading

cause of cancer death among Hispanic/Latina women in the United States but Hispanic ethnicity is largely under-represented in etiological and survivorship cohorts (< 4%). This precludes meaningful evaluation of population-specific outcomes that would help improve survival in this rapidly growing and underserved ethnic group. The proposed Hispanic/Latina Breast Cancer Survivorship Cohort Study will include approximately 4,110 women from three regions in the U.S. (California, Seattle-Puget Sound, and New Mexico) and will fill this extraordinary gap, as it will be the first of its kind to include a large survivorship cohort of women of Hispanic descent.
