RESEARCH

EXPERTISE:

Clinical documentation and billing - Early in my practice as a general internist, I took an

interest of and have taken various courses on clinical documentation and billing. I have

continued to build on my knowledge in this area through ongoing training and instruction in my

practice as a hospitalist and as an intensivist. I have also applied my expertise at various levels

to include internal group audits of physician documentation and hospital chart reviews. I have

also personally instructed all of our pulmonary and critical care fellows on how to optimally

document and bill in the inpatient setting. Currently, I am the lead resource for our Division of

Pulmonary and Critical Care inpatient documentation and billing. I continue to take courses

keeping me abreast of new documentation standards and requirements.

Venothromboembolism - Over the years I have gained an interest in venothromboembolism

(VTE). In particular, pulmonary embolism. I have presented the subject in Internal Medicine

Grand Rounds as well as in a national video-conference program for critical care (TriStat

National Conference Lectures). Over the last several years in practice, I have become known as

a key source for consultation for complex cases of VTE. I have also instructed many medical

students, residents and fellows in the diagnosis, management and treatment of this disease.
