Projects :Urban studies and Living units for “La Puerta” touristic area Description: Several undergraduate studio projects

Location: VenezuelaDate: 05.01.06

Project Scale: Various

About the project: Both projects have a small town in the Venezuelan Andes as the site context. The urban pattern study aims to understand the slums rapid growth and its meaning in terms of logistic in urban planing. In the images bellow, a facade study in as part of a research for the establishment of future communities in the Venezuelan Andes

The study of existing housing typology and its reinterpretation was an important part of the design process. Design and drawings by : Maria Paez.

The urban proposal aimed to increase the density of the site maintaining a low rise profile. Each block was thoroughly studied to develop punctual design strategies.Design and drawings by : Maria Paez.

Project :Diagram logics on urban scales. Case Study: North Area of Mérida, Vnzla Description: Social dynamics study and natural structure study of site

Location: North Area of Mérida, VnzlaDate: 19.02.09

Project Scale:3141592.7 m2 aprox

About the project: The projects main interest was to introduce and test a novel approach for the design of urban scales. The city being the location of my former school, was a particular interesting site due to its geographical and social character.

About the project: The projects main interest was to introduce and test a novel approach for the design of urban scales. The city being the location of my former school, was a particular interesting site due to its geographical and social character.

Due to the steep topography, the landscape design was focused on anti-erosion planting systems. Each slope range was classified and catalogued with possible planting system, land use and section. Design and drawings by : Maria Paez.

Water treatment was also part of the design, by using wetlands and flooding areas in the critical points of pollution along the river.Design and drawings by : Maria Paez.

Some areas where designated as part of the development scheme. The overall plan aims to mix academic (due to their proximity to the University campus) and diverse social activities in each lot. Design and drawings by : Maria Paez.

About the project: Two parameters where the main focus of the design, program as the guide line for shape and the transition from horizontal into vertical surfaces. The landscape, as the building is understood as a surface that arranges it self leading pedestrians into the main access.

The tool developed to design the facade was intended to increase and decrease its apertures according to the inner programs. The building becomes a skin that translates the inside to the outside. Creating an interesting dialectic for the usersDesign and drawn by : Maria Paez.

The parametric tool allowed tree main facade parameter:A glassing facade for broad visibility, an open facade where the concrete strips become a briss-soleil that envelopes the space within and the visibility strips that allow natural light and ventilation in the building.Design and drawn by : Maria Paez.
