Gannon Associate Director of Athletics Don Sherman is in his second stint as head water polo coach and begins his 11th season overall as Gannon’s head women’s water polo coach. He started both the women’s and men’s programs from

scratch and moved them from club status to the varsity level in 2001. He coached the women’s team for five seasons on

the varsity level and the men’s squad for four seasons until stepping down after the 2004-05 campaigns to concentrate on his Associate Director of Athletics position. Sherman returned to the deck in 2007 after a brief one-year hiatus while con-

tinuing to serve as the Associate A.D. in addition to his coaching duties.

The Erie, Pa., native began his career at Gannon as an assistant swimming and diving coach under former Gannon head

coach Rick Goerlitz. He was appointed head women’s and men’s swimming coach in the summer of 1997. The men’s

program had four consecutive winning seasons while the women’s program produced winning records in four of Sherman’s last five campaigns. Both squads went 10-1 during Sherman’s last season in 2004-05.

Sherman has 29 years of involvement with aquatics and pool management as a coach, instructor, swimmer and lifeguard.

He served as the Financial Director for the Downtown Erie YMCA prior to coming to Gannon.

Sherman graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Manage-ment. He was a member of the Rocket water polo team that finished eighth at the NCAA National Championships in 1984.

He later served as an assistant student coach for the Slippery Rock men’s swimming team, and also has experience as the

Cathedral Prep assistant swimming and water polo coach.

Salem International University has announced the hiring of Rob Bullion as their new Water Polo Coach.

Bullion takes over with first-hand knowledge of SIU and the CWPA. A 2011 graduate of Gannon University with a Bache-

lors Degree of Science in Business Management, he played four years for the Gannon Men's Water Polo team. He finished

his collegiate playing career with 28 goal, 18 assists, and 37 steals.

"Rob’s playing experience is valuable to us as we try to develop and rebuild our programs here at SIU," Director of Athlet-ics Keith Bullion said. “He has been around the game for most of his sporting life, he has benefitted from outstanding

coaches at the Empire State Games, various youth leagues and Coach Sherman's guidance at Gannon. His first-hand knowl-

edge of Salem and the teams in the CWPA conference will greatly benefit him."

"I would like to thank Chancellor Brooks for the opportunity to coach here at Salem," said Rob. "It's always been my goal

to one day coach the game that I love."

Bullion, a native of Buffalo, NY, comes from a rich heritage of Water Polo and, in particular, Salem International Univer-

sity. His father, current SIU Athletic Director Keith Bullion, guided the SIU Tigers Men's Water Polo team to the CWPA

Eastern Division II Championship in 2004 and a berth in the Eastern Championship Tournament.

"I play to win," said Rob. "There’s no doubt that Salem has a rich tradition in athletics and my job is to get this program

competitive year in and year out."

Kittle joined the Notre Dame coaching staff in the spring of 2011, bringing over 14 years of swimming and water polo experience to College Road.

Throughout his career, the Shaker Heights, Ohio, native has coached age-group through master-level programs and club teams at two universities (Ohio and Akron). Kittle holds three degrees from Ohio University, where he was player-

coach and president of the OU Men's Water Polo Club. In his tenure as a Bobcat, the club was nationally ranked in two

separate seasons, and it advanced to a CWPA national championship tournament.

At various levels, Kittle has developed a number of zone champions and top-16 qualifiers as well as 13 All-America

swimmers and student-athlete award winners. He also assisted in the development of the Cleveland Water Polo Club in 2004.

Kittle also assists in the growth, development and marketing of TeamWork Online, a sports-industry recruiting system.

Curtis Robinette became just the second head coach in Mercyhurst men's water polo history in the summer of 2002. He is responsible for all but two victories in school history and has quickly built the program into one of the strongest at the

Division II level.

He led the Lakers to an 18-10 record in 2010, including victories over Harvard and Iona. Hurst also defeated crosstown

rival Gannon all three times they met. The group placed fifth at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern

Championship.

Robinette guided the team to another successful campaign in 2009 as the Lakers went 13-6 to mark their fourth straight

season of 12 more wins, and finished 8-0 in conference play for the second straight year. The team posted 11 straight wins during the season to set the program record for most consecutive wins and captured the Division II Eastern Champi-

onship yet again.

Following the season, three Lakers earned All-America honors, as Alex Moggridge, Kane Ashton and Andy Sekulski

were named as the top players in Division II collegiate water polo.

Robinette’s 2009 campaign was one of many milestone seasons in his nine-year career at Mercyhurst. After four straight

sub-.500 seasons, Robinette turned the program around and guided them to five straight winning seasons, beginning in

2006 when the team posted a 12-9 record and won its first Division II Eastern Championship title.

A 2002 graduate of Slippery Rock, Robinette was a standout player for the Rockets. He was a four-year varsity award

winner, captain for two seasons and was the recipient of the Dr. Richard Hunkler Water Polo Scholarship.

After four years of coaching swimming at both Slippery Rock and Toledo, Ohio, Robinette made his debut as a water

polo coach for the second-year Laker squad. He also directs the women's team.
