INTRODUCTION OF THE DELIVERABLE I - Description Within the RS innovation cluster, partners will investigate other potential interested sectors to become part of the innovation cluster or to start a new innovation cluster. Meetings will be arranged to investigate the interests of the new potential sectors. A list and report will be produced about the meetings and discussions with those sectors.

II - How this report has been realised As this deliverable is involving several partners groups were organised per selected sectors, and then each partner was asked to share the new use-cases they encountered during discussions / meetings / trade fairs that were not related to sectors already addressed by the ICARES project. From all the partners’ input the use-cases were classified per category and some preliminary investigations on each application was carried out in order to obtain a deeper understand of each individual case. Reliable sources were identified for each use-case and 6 key items of information were found to best describe the status of the use-case. These key points are listed below:

SECURITY

The security category can be naturally divided into two distinct sub-categories, which may share some scenarios / technologies or actors.

o Private Security: this covers how drones can be used for private security, for private profit

o National Security: this covers how the use of drones may help the state / local governments (police forces, militaries,…) to maintain peace, safety and enforce law respect in our daily life.

PRIVATE SECURITY Brand/Company/Organization: SAFRAN Electronics and Defence Country: Application: Since 2013, Safran has developed for the European Commission the

use of drones for land and maritime surveillance. The patroller system is a typical example of mixed security equipment, as it may be used to conduct civilian or military missions :

Brand/Company/Organization: G4S Country: Application: G4S is working on several solutions where drones are used, such as patrolling and supervision of harbour areas and construction sites, or the supervision and patrolling of large perimeters. G4S also uses drones for inspection tasks tailored to customers’ needs and logistical tasks, such as loading and localisation of goods, trailers and containers of optimisation of flow and outdoor storage. Other examples include a security officer/drone security setup for inspections and response to security breaches, varied facility management tasks (roofs, drains, tall chimneys, cables, etc.), alarm patrol response (security officer patrol) and search of missing persons.

The idea of this application is to increase the safety of traffic on Netherlands rivers, especially in the area of improving the response after incidents on the rivers. The Drone Challenge of Rijkswaterstaat is entering the next phase. The focus has shifted from local and automatic flying to a scalable and operational application of drones. The challenge is to enable the use of drones that fly automatically and over long distances for incident and traffic management in shipping, among other things.

Application: Orelsan Concert security To ensure the safety of the organizing teams, fans and artists, the UAV service company Adéole and the city of Floirac decided to use a new form of video surveillance of the public areas: a DJI Matrix 200 UAV, with Zenmuse Z30 full HD camera, connected to Elistair’s Ligh-T v3 tethering station. Connected to the ground by a micro-tether, the UAV flew over the zone before, during, and after the concert without the interruption that comes with changing batteries. Illustration

The city of Moerdijk, Netherlands is using drones to film the Albanians refugees camp. Using drones allows them to see the corn circles made by the Albanians refugees along the A16. This inspection by drone furnished to the municipality evidence which can only be clearly seen from the air.

Application: The Port of Rotterdam aims to be Smarter. It has developed several technologies such as the water drone. The water drone, called AquasmartXL,is a small, unmanned boat, equipped with a camera. It sends images in real time to the quay, thus providing a flexible solution for surveillance and inspection from the water surface.

USE CASES Brand/Company/Organization: L’OREAL & Hardis Group Country: Application: L'Oréal modernizes its inventory process in warehouse using

Eyesee, the inventory drone solution published by Hardis Group It simplifies stock-taking and verification of goods locations in warehouses. It comprises:

an autonomous drone that flies around the warehouse, capturing information from bar codes on boxes and pallets,

a tablet application enabling the operator to control the drone, check the captured data and interact with the drone,

a back office application for administration, configuration and interfacing with other applications (WMS, ERP, etc.)

Using its sensors and indoor geolocalisation system, Eyesee flies around the warehouse according to a predetermined flight plan. Its cameras capture information from the relevant logistics labels for stock-taking. The operator views the captured data on the tablet in real time and can interact with the drone, if it has not captured the right information or cannot find the bar code.

Brand/Company/Organization: GEODIS & Delta Drone Country: Application: In partnership with drone manufacturer DELTA DRONE, GEODIS has

tested automated drones in real-time conditions in its sites The solution is comprised of a tethered quadcopter drone fitted with high-resolution cameras and a ground-based robot equipped with a battery. These flying drones use indoor geolocation technology to move autonomously and safely within the warehouse. They scan the barcodes of the pallets and their locations, report this data in real time, process it and send/retrieve it to/from the Warehouse Management System (WMS). This innovative solution enables GEODIS to handle inventory in a 100% automated way during the hours when a site is closed. It therefore increases warehouse productivity, as there is no need to close it during inventory days, request additional personnel or stop all logistics activity. The solution also guarantees greater safety at work for the site’s employees – scanning pallets 12 meters high can be a risky task. Illustration

DHL, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German drone manufacturer Wingcopter successfully tested the delivery of medicines using a drone to an island in Lake Victoria. During the trials, the autonomous DHL Parcelcopter 4.0 completed the 60 km flight from the mainland to the island in 40 minutes on average. A total of 2,200 km were flown and roughly 2,000 flight minutes recorded during the pilot project.

Brand: LOG’S Country: Application: In the gigantic Log's warehouse in Anzin, near Valenciennes, a drone makes an inventory of the thousands of pallets stored About ten meters above the ground, the drone is racing through the alleys of one of Log's huge warehouses in the Europe-Escaut area of Anzin. From floor to ceiling, with the regularity of a large radio-controlled insect, it scans and inventories the 15,000 pallets of bottles of oils and condiments stored by Log's for a customer of the food industry.

This allows Log to secure, and accelerate inventory and inventory control operations

Amazon is planning to be able through Amazon Prime Air to use drones to deliver packages to customers “within months”.

The drone would be able to travel 15 miles to carry packages weighing 5lbs (2.3kg) or less. They promise a delivery within 30 minutes.

INDUSTRY

We couldn’t consider new sectors without considering the industry which is a pretty new sector within the drone world. The following applications are giving a broad overview of how the European companies are starting to use the drones for Industry. Brand/Company/Organization: FORD

Ford is using drones to perform risky and time-consuming inspections on factory equipment’s at a plant in London. The drones are able to reduce inspection time from 12 hours to 12 minutes and they also take video footages which have become a key tool for the factory.

The Novadem solution is used by RTE to identify the signs of deterioration of its pylons as well as any anomalies in its electrical transformer stations that could cause network failures. The U130 solution brings to the air fleet that it completes numerous assets:

Efficiency: its quick and easy deployment saves a lot of time, which affects the costs of the inspection.

Accuracy: Due to its compact structure making it very manoeuvrable, the U130 has the ability to get closer to the pylons thus providing better quality photographs and analysis.

Limited risks: controlled remotely, the drone does not require human intervention in the direct vicinity of power lines.

Among RTE's missions: optimize the operation of the French electrical system every second, ensure the safety of customers' power supply, and adapt the network and tools to accelerate the energy transition, by

constantly innovating. It is to meet these constant objectives that RTE carries out continuous inspections every year on its entire network.

SPIE, an independent European leader in multi-technical services in the fields of energy and communications, successfully suspended a cable between two high voltage towers using a drone. This technological first was made in the Netherlands The use of a drone for the suspension of cables between high voltage towers has major advantages. It helps preserve the soil, as well as the fauna and flora at the location and between the pylons. In addition, the drone facilitates the work of teams in difficult terrain.

Renault, is developing its factory of the future and one addition is a drone at Maubeuge (Northern France), piloted from a tablet, which flies and clean huge bays where parts are stored. Maubeuge, is a pilot site of this innovation developed in partnership with Hardis which allows to intervene immediately in case of problem on the flow of parts and offers significant gains in productivity, storage area and inventory level.
