WORDS OF WISDOM The mistakes in life are not so important as the les-sons we learn from them Love your work, then you will find pleasure in mas-tering it Appreciate the many things that make your life so valuable Don’t criticize others when you are angry with your-self Don’t wait for the ideal time to begin something Never underestimate the power of simple courtesy Communicate in a way as to leave as little room for misunderstanding as possible Don’t take life to seriously; you’ll never get out alive Be afraid of standing still If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck Not everything can be made sense of Trust can be destroyed faster than it can be built One who cannot tolerate small ills can never accom-plish great things

This Month’s Feature Band

SWING SHIFT

Under the direction of Diz Mullins, Swing Shift will again grace our stage. They feature the Big Band sounds of music from the early thir-ties through the fifties. Music and sounds perpetuated by the Greats like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, Billy May, Tommy Dorsey and other Greats of that era.

Swing Shift consist of a diversified group of fine local musicians. Many who have worked in the music world for a long time and have a great love of Jazz. Swing Shift features the lovely and talented vocalist Jan Nelson.

So….bring your best friend, your dancing shoes and let’s get ready to shake your stuff and cut a mean rug. Meet me on the dancing floor or you can sit and enjoy the panoramic views, and the sensational music as you sip your favorite cocktail. Don’t be late, you’re not going to want to miss this band!

SCAMS

You think you’re safe from scams….don’t rest so easy, the scammers are still active and they are concentrating on our senior citizens.

IRS Imposters: They call and claim to be the IRS; they give fake information about you and ask if it’s cor-rect. Of course since you think it’s the IRS and you want to correct the information. They’ve got another victim and you give them everything they need to take your money.

Home Repair and Security Checks: They show up at your door claiming to be contractors and of-fer to inspect your roof or driveway free of charge. They then find flaws or damage and get you to fork over an advance cash payment for supplies and they skip town.

Grandparents Scam: You get a call from a grand-child in desperate need of money to pay for needed medical treatment or bail money. Emotions usually take over and people act quickly and send money as request-ed to assist their loved ones.

Lotteries and Sweepstakes: Someone calls and congratulates you on winning a contest. You don’t re-member entering, but before you can receive your win-nings (a car, a vacation, a big check) you must first pay the taxes, fees or other expenses via a wire transfer or prepaid debit card. The winner sends off the money, but the jackpot never arrives.

A BIT OF HUMOR

A protestant man lived in a predominately Catholic area. Every Friday during Lent, while his neighbors were eat-ing Fish, he was in his backyard grilling a steak. They couldn’t stand the temptation, so they decided to try and convert him to Catholicism. He agreed, so the Priest came over and sprinkled him with water and said, “you were born a Baptist, you were raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic’. Next year during Lent the neighbors smelled steaks be-ing grilled by their neighbor; they rushed over to his house and as they approached him in the backyard, he was sprinkling water on his steak saying….”you were born a cow, you were raised a cow, but now you are a Fish”. FLYING FRYING PAN A man was sitting reading his newspaper when his wife sneaked up and hit him over the head with a frying pan. He said “what’s that for”. She said “I found a piece of paper in your shirt pocket that said Mary Lou”. “Oh Honey, that was a horse at the race track that I bet on last week”. The wife apologized and went about her business. A couple days later she again hit him over the head with a larger frying pan. When he finally came to, he said “Honey what’s going on, what was that for?.. The wife said “Your horse just called”
