I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW w.m. Johnny Nash 4/4 1…2…1234

(1,2) I can see clearly now the rain is gone

I can see all obstacles in my way

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It’s gonna be a bright, bright, bright, bright sun shiny day (2X)

I think I can make it now the pain is gone

All of the bad feelings have disappeared

Here is the rainbow I’ve been praying for

It’s gonna be a bright, bright, bright, bright sun shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothing but blue skies

Look straight ahead, there’s nothing but blue skies.

Repeat 1st verse.

Do It YourselfBill Sutton

I went to buy computers, and they said a million bucks.

For a brand new mainframe IBM, now that price really sucks.

So I looked at all the pictures, and I chose to build my own,

For you can build a mainframe from the things you find at home.

Chorus

Oh, IBM, DEC, and Honeywell; HP, DG and Wang,

Amdahl, NEC, and NCR, they don't know anything!

They make big bucks for systems, so they never want it known

That you can build a mainframe from the things you find at home.

Now, take the CPU, you see it's only just a box

With blinking lights and whirring fans and lots of cable slots.

So I spent an evening working with some wire and bulbs and pins,

Then I hauled it to the basement and I plugged the freezer in.

Well, next I needed tape drives, my tape drives were a steal.

I climbed into the attic for my dad's old reel-to-reel.

Some cable and some binder twine, and soon it was complete:

My CPU and tape drive at a price no one can beat.

Chorus

So then I looked for disk drives, but it didn't take me long -

Function follows form, they say, or have I got that wrong?

I found a drive with five new modes that blows the rest away:

Cottons, linens, wash and wear, rinse, and lingerie!

Chorus

Well, I had to have a console just to make my system run.

Without a fancy console then my system wasn't done.

So, I tied a ten-buck typer to a broken TV tube,

And now I've got a console that can write the evening news.

Chorus

I've had my system running - I'll admit it's not the best.

The data isn't right, and the response time is a mess.

It crashes every hour, and it isn't worth a damn,

When I Was A BoyFrank Hayes

Verse 1

When I was a boy our Nintendo was carved from an old Apple tree,

And we used garden hose to connect it to our steam-powered color TV.

But it still beat that ancient Atari, 'cuz I almost went blind, don'tcha know,

Playing Breakout and Pong on a video game hooked up to the radio.

And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse - barefoot, uphill both ways.

Through blizzards in summer and winter ... back in the good old days.

Back when FORTRAN was not even Three-tran, and the PC was only a toy.

And we did our computing by gaslight when I was a boy.

Verse 2

When I was a boy all our networks were for hauling in fish from the sea.

And our bawd rate was eight bits an hour (and she was worth it!)

And our IP address was just three.

And you kids who believe that the World Wide Web

is too slow oughta cut out your bitchin',

'Cuz when I was a boy all our packets were delivered by carrier pigeon.

And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse - barefoot, uphill both ways.

Through blizzards in summer and winter ... back in the good old days.

Back when FORTRAN was not even Two-tran, and the PC was only a toy.

And we did our computing by torchlight when I was a boy.

Verse 3

When I was a boy our IS shop built relational tables from wood,

And we wrappered our data in oilcloth to preserve it the best that we could.

And we carried our bits in a bucket, and our mainframe weighed 900 tons,

And we programmed in ones and in zeros - and sometimes we ran out of ones.

And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse - barefoot, uphill both ways.

Through blizzards in summer and winter ... back in the good old days.

Back when FORTRAN was not even One-tran, and the PC was only a toy.

And we did our computing in primordial darkness when I was a boy.

YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS 4/4 1…2…123 (If sung without intro)

Intro: 4 2 2 2 2 4

There’s a Yellow Rose in Texas, that I am going to see She’s the sweetest rose in Texas this fellow ever knew

No other fellow knows her, nobody else but me Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew

She cried so when I left her, it like to broke my heart You may talk about your Laura and sing of Rosa Lee

And if I ever find her, we never more will part But the Yellow Rose of Texas means all the world to me
