Follow us on social media for up-to-date Doyon, Limited news and events.

Dear Shareholders,

This month’s newsletter is packed with information and upcoming deadlines. We have a lot going on at Doyon, Limited as we just wrapped up our fiscal year 2017. A few of the

projects Doyon staff is working on include preparing for the annual audit, the $6.18/share dividend distribution on December 5, and the upcoming annual meeting of shareholders in March 2018. We continue to closely monitor the Doyon Drilling Rig 26 design-build project, which is progressing on time and on budget. We expect the new rig to be operational in early 2020.

Northstar Wireless, a subsidiary of Doyon, Limited, was part of a recent decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The court reversed the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision and ruled in favor of Northstar Wireless, offering Northstar the opportunity to qualify as a designated entity and receive the bidding credits won in Auction 97. The court upheld the FCC’s initial denial of Northstar’s bidding credits, but decided Northstar should have had the opportunity to modify its agreements to comply with the established designated entity rules. In August 2015, after Auction 97 concluded, the FCC denied Northstar its designated entity bid credits. We look forward to working with the FCC to address their concerns.

This month, Doyon will provide all shareholders with information about the option to receive electronic delivery of Doyon’s annual report and proxy materials. Over the years, many shareholders have requested that Doyon deliver the annual

report materials electronically. The elimination of having to print and mail the annual report packets for those who opt-in to the new program will save the company thousands of dollars. Look for more information about this initiative on page 1 of this newsletter, and on our website and social media channels.

Doyon is a major stakeholder in the efforts by the federal government to update BLM land management plans. Doyon submitted comments, formally protested, and continues to raise concerns on the Eastern Interior Resource Management Plan, focusing specifically on the Fortymile subunit. We are also raising concerns with regard to proposed large expansions of Areas of Critical Environmental Concern in the Central Yukon and Bering Sea/Western Interior planning processes underway.

October is one of my favorite times of year working at Doyon. First, we have our annual Dialogue with Doyon meetings that take place in several of our villages. In addition, the Elders and Youth Conference, and the Alaska Federation of Natives convention take place this month. Both events provide me with the opportunity to see and visit with many of you. I enjoy having the opportunity to talk with you, share Doyon-related news and listen to your questions and concerns. If you have the opportunity, please stop by the pre-AFN shareholder reception on October 18 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel.

I appreciate your continued support of Doyon and our employees.

The busy tourism season for Kantishna Roadhouse and Doyon/ARAMARK Joint Venture concessions has come to an end, at least for the seasonal employees. The 2017 summer season, which runs from early May through mid-September, has wrapped up in Denali National Park and Preserve.

There are two Doyon, Limited companies that provide services in Denali. The first, Kantishna Roadhouse, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Doyon. Located 90 miles into the park, Kantishna Roadhouse offers accommodations and tours for park visitors. More information about all the amenities and tours can be found at www.kantishnaroadhouse.com.

This season, a few of the Kantishna Roadhouse operations employees moved to offices in Healy. Pictured to the right is their new Healy employee housing, provided by Doyon Remote Facilities and Services.

Doyon/ARAMARK, a joint venture between Doyon and Aramark Corporation, recently won a 10-year concessions contract beginning early in the 2017 season to provide transportation services and bus tours; operate campgrounds,

facilities, and retail, food and beverage outlets; and manage reservations within the park.

This fall, Shyanna Frerichs, a Doyon shareholder originally from Ruby, spoke with Doyon communications about her experience in Denali working for Doyon/ARAMARK as a cultural interpreter. In her presentation to park visitors, Frerichs provides her traditional introduction in Koyukon Athabascan, and offers information about the various cultures in Alaska, with an emphasis on the Interior. She speaks about the importance of respect in Athabascan culture, and also discusses language preservation, including her personal experience studying Alaska Native languages at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Doyon/ARAMARK will begin recruitment for 2018 seasonal positions in late December, and Doyon shareholders are encouraged to apply. Check out www.summerdenalijobs.com in December/January for all the seasonal opportunities.

Spring 2018 scholarship application deadline coming up November 15

Doyon Foundation will soon roll out a new streamlined, user-friendly online scholarship application process. Students will use the new application system starting with the spring 2018 application deadline; scholarship applications are due Wednesday, November 15 for basic scholarships for the spring 2018 semester.

Scholarship applications are not currently being accepted as the Foundation transitions from the previous system to the new one. The previous scholarship portal on the Foundation website is no longer accessible as the Foundation transfers scholarship data to the new system.

While the exact launch date is unknown, the new portal is expected to be available in the next few weeks. Students will be contacted directly with details on accessing and using the new system.

Applicants will find the new system to offer a more streamlined, user-friendly experience. For example, through the new system, students will receive automatic reminders of upcoming deadlines and items needed to complete their applications. Letters of recommendation can also be uploaded directly to the scholarship portal. The new system will also offer better scholarship reporting and management.
