MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT
FROM 1ST JANUARY 2020 – 31ST JANUARY 2020
1. MEDICAL SIMULATION LAB VISIT FOR FIRST YEAR B. PHARMACY
The visit of the Medical Simulation Laboratory was arranged for 40 students by F. Y. B.
Pharmacy on 2nd January 2020. The laboratory is equipped with high fidelity patient
mannequins like HPS, Birthing simulator Lucina, surgical simulators Apollo, Anil and
diagnostic ultrasound simulator like LapVR, EndoVR. To learn the skills required for
treatment of paediatric population, paediatric simulators like Pedia Sim and Neos Sim
are also available in the lab. All the simulators are designed with augmented reality to
train medical students and professionals to become proficient in their skills and
techniques. The queries of the students were satisfactorily addressed by simulation lab
staff. The visit was coordinated by Mrs. Sushama Patil, Assistant Professor, School of
Pharmacy.
2. START OF A DIGITAL DECADE WITH E-POSTER COMPETITION

D Y Patil School of Pharmacy had organized a 'State Level e-Poster Competition' for D.
Pharmacy students on Saturday, 4th January 2020. In total 31 entries were received for
the Competition. Dr. Mohan Kale (Principal KGRDCOP) was the Chief Guest for the
Inaugural Function. Mrs. Vineeta Khanvilkar (BVCOP), Dr. Vandana Jain (OCP), Dr.
Gaurav Doshi (BNCP) and Dr. Bhushan Rane (DDVCOP) were the Judges for the
Competition. The Concept and Coordination of the event was done by Mr. Aditya D.
Ghuge under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Somani (Principal, DYPUSOP). The winners of
the Competition were from Shivajirao Jondhle COP (Asangaon), NCRD's IOP (Nerul) and
DY Patil SOP (Nerul).
3. ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON IUPAC NOMENCLATURE
A One Day Workshop on IUPAC Nomenclature was conducted on 9th January 2020.
Over 30 delegates participated in this workshop. Dr. Rakesh Somani, Principal
introduced the session and the need of the session. The workshop included summary of
various rules pertaining of IUPAC Nomenclature of various monocyclic, fused, spiro and
bicyclic heterocyclic rings followed by hand-on problem solving by the delegates. The
workshop was conducted and delivered by Mr. Pratip Chaskar, Assistant Professor,
School of Pharmacy. Mr. Pravin Jagtap, Assistant Professor, School of Pharmacy,
delivered the Vote of Thanks.
4. PHARMANEST, INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SHAPING FUTURE OF
PHARMA INDUSTRY
On 9th January 2020, four Students of First Year B. Pharm., Mr. Khush Jain, Mr.
Reshown Briganza, Mr. Harsh Yadav and Ms. Sakshi Singh of D. Y. Patil University School
of Pharmacy participated as delegates in PharmaNEST, an International Conference
organized by Operant Pharmacy Federation (OPF) on the topic of “Shaping the future of
Pharma industry: New era innovation in biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences and
Biosciences” at VES College of Pharmacy, Mumbai. Students learned about recent

innovations in Pharmaceutical sciences and future projection of innovation in
biotechnology. The activity was coordinated by Mr. Pravin Naik, Asst. Prof., Pharm.
Chem. Dr. Rakesh Somani, Principal, SoP was also invited as Chairperson of one of the
sessions and as evaluator of oral technical presentation competition.
5. FIRST INDUSTRIAL ADVISORY COUNCIL (IAC) MEETING
The 1st Industrial Advisory Council (IAC) meeting of D. Y. Patil University School of
Pharmacy was held on 11th January 2020 in Conference room, University Block, D. Y.
Patil deemed to be University, Navi Mumbai. The IAC is comprised of Dr. Vijay
Bambulkar, Former Director of IPA and Regulatory Advisor to Wyeth and Abbott, Mr.
Krishnakant Gandhi, Owner, Solinova Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., Dr Milind Biyani, Director,
Aspire Advisors Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Suraj Bhansali, Adjunct Professor and University of New
England and Global Head, Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics, Data
Analytics, Dr. Shrikant Dhoot, Research Scientist, Reliance Industries Limited, Mr. Arun
Shenoy, Independent Pharma Consultant, Mr. Gopal Bajaj, Head, International Sales and
Marketing, Tyche Industries, Mr. Ranjit Barshikar, QbD/cGMP Consultants (Consultant
to UN) and Dr. Roshan Palewar, CEO, DocRosh Global Solutions. We also had 2 special
guests present for the meet, Dr. Diptiman Chand, Director, Viilbery-Vivimed Pvt. Ltd.
and Mr. Karthik Iyer, Director, Truehealthy Nutrition Pvt. Ltd. The meeting started with
welcoming of the IAC members and presentation about D. Y. Patil University School of
Pharmacy (DYPUSOP) by Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh R. Somani, Principal of SoP. Various future
prospects were discussed as per agenda of the meeting such as segregation of students
as per the interest and abilities, grading system for extracurricular activities, planning
joint collaboration with industries, planning Board of Studies (BoS) and IAC meet
together for structuring syllabus as per industry requirements, etc. The discussion also
resulted in the idea of starting new diploma courses such as Neutraceuticals and
Cosmeticology for D. Pharmacy and B. Pharmacy students. The meeting ended with
thanks to the chair. The members also interacted with Dr. Vijay Patil, Chancellor, D. Y.
Patil University, Navi Mumbai. They discussed the futuristic vision and proactive
participation into the development of DYPUSOP. The 1st IAC meet ended high on

enthusiasm and glimpse of better tomorrow on the horizon. Mr Aditya Ghuge, Asst. Prof,
DYPUSOP coordinated the meeting.
6. CAREER SEMINAR FOR B. PHARM.
A Career Seminar for B. Pharm. students was conducted on 11th January 2020 to give a
fair idea about latest happenings in Pharma industry. The session started off by
welcoming the guest speakers of the day. The next happening of the day involved
release of two MOUs i.e. first D. Y. Patil School of Pharmacy and Viilbery Healthcare Pvt.
Ltd. and second between D. Y. Patil School of Pharmacy and Truhealthy LLP. The
dignitaries also launched the half yearly progress report of SoP. Dr. Diptiman Chand,
Director of Viilbery Healthcare and Vivimed talked about A Glance At Pharmaceutical
Industry in 2025 while Dr. Karthik Iyer, Director of Truhealthy LLP enlightened the

audience about Neutraceuticals. Dr. Rajendra Dhande, Freelancing medical writer
elaborated about Pharmacovigilance. Dr. Vijay Bambulkar, Pharma Consultant talked
about Relevance of a Pharmacist to Cosmetic Industry. Mrs. Melita Farnandes, Senior
Health Content Manager, Rebel Food gave a note on Pharmacovigilance – Medical
Writing and New opportunities for Pharma students. The seminar was coordinated by
Mrs. Jyoti Katkar, Asst. Professor, DYPUSOP.
7. GUEST TALK ON DATA ANALYTICS IN DRUG DEVELOPMENT
A guest talk on Data Analytics and Application of Artificial Intelligence in Drug
Development was organised on 13th January 2020 for F. Y. B. Pharm students. The talk
was delivered by Dr Suraj Bhansali, Global Head, Clinical Pharmacology Services,
Excelra, Hyderabad. In his informative talk, he oriented students about data analytics
and how it is going to be the future of Pharmaceutical Research. The talk was well
received by students and interactive discussion between speaker and listeners added a
great flavour of satisfaction to their queries.
8. MIMANSA 2020
Students from DYPUSOP Mr. Khush Jain, Ms. Chahat Bindal, Ms. Sakshi Singh and Mr.
Rishwon Briganza participated in Mimamsa 2020, A National level quiz Competition
organized by IISER-Pune. Students participated in the 1st round which was held at IIT-
Bombay on 18th January 2020. It was a good experience and exposure for the students
with respect to knowledge and level of the Competition.
9. VISIT TO THE MEDICINAL PLANT GARDEN FOR D. PHARMACY STUDENTS
D. Y. Patil University School of Pharmacy (DYPUSOP) in collaboration with D. Y. Patil
University School of Ayurveda (DYPUSOA) had organised a Medicinal Plant Garden Visit
in D. Y. Patil Educational Campus, Navi Mumbai for First Year D. Pharmacy students on
23rd January 2020. The visit was co-ordinated by Ms. Suchita Ghumre, Asst. Prof.
DYPUSOP with Dr. (Vd.) Charushila Giri, HOD, Dravyaguna Vidnyan, DYPUSOA. 57
students were divided into 2 groups. They were briefed by Dr. (Vd.) Pradnya Chaughule
& Dr. (Vd.) Sayali Shintre about shrubs and herbs in the greenhouse, which included the
information about plants, their habitat, medicinal uses etc. Then the visit was extended

to ‘Nakshtra Van’, which included trees with medicinal values. The visit was very
informative and fruitful for the students due the connection between the practical and
theoretical aspects of the course.
10. GUEST TALK ON GENDER SENSITISATION AND GUIDANCE FOR PROFESSIONAL
BEHAVIOUR
D. Y. Patil University School of Pharmacy had organised a Guest talk on “Gender
Sensitization and Guidance for Professional behaviour to students” for First year B.
Pharmacy and First year D. Pharmacy students on 25th January 2020. The guest talk
was delivered by Mrs. Ramalakshmi Anand, Visiting Faculty, ICT and VESCOP. The
session was co-ordinated by Mrs. Jyoti Katkar, Asst. Professor, DYPUSOP with the
speaker. The first session was conducted for First year B. Pharmacy students in seminar
hall from 10.30-11.30 am and second session was conducted for First year D. Pharmacy
students from 11.30-12.30 pm. The lecture was sensitized students about equality as it
is major issue in today’s world. Objective of this lecture was to make the students

understand the fact that equality is the essence of democracy. The students
enthusiastically participated in the activity. Full freedom was given to the students to
frame their own questions. This was to ensure that whatever questions from whichever
area, related to gender equality come in the students’ minds, they should feel free to put
up that question to the society. Their thoughts should have a natural flow. It should
neither be directed nor diverted by anyone. The lecture was very informative and
focused on gender equality and professional behavioural aspects.
11. IPA Rx
Students of D. Y. Patil University School of Pharmacy participated in 28 sports and
cultural activities hosted by Indian Pharmaceutical Association-Maharashtra State
Branch (IPA-MSB). Students participated enthusiastically and were able to bang

12. VISIT OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR STUDENTS AT D. Y. PATIL STADIUM – A
SOCIAL INITIATIVE OF DYPUSOP
A team of 30 school children from the state of Jammu and Kashmir were on their
Mumbai Darshan visit under the sponsorship of Border Security Force, Srinagar, J & K
and coordinated by Maheshwari Welfare Foundation, an NGO from Kharghar, Navi
Mumbai. The said tour was conducted from 26th January 2020 to 30th January 2020. In
their last leg of visit, the said NGO expressed to arrange a visit to D. Y. Patil Stadium on
30th January 2020. The School of Pharmacy coordinated their visit to the stadium and
sports complex facilities. Mr Aditya Kharkar from stadium team and Dr. Rakesh Somani,
Principal, DYPUSOP coordinated this visit. Four students of D. Pharm programme
namely Siddhesh Dhabushe, Dipil Dhonksekar, Khushboo Kataria and Pooja Karke
escorted the visiting children and showed them entire facilities. The memories of this
visit were cherished by visiting students as they were witnessing to such a facility for
the first time in their life. Mr Vishal Patil, the accompanying commandant from BSF
thanked the team of DYPUSOP for their cooperation in arranging this visit.
