Hello Hippos!

This month in particular has been a

very rough time for my family. I

just wanted to thank everyone, es-

pecially you Key Clubbers for al-

ways having such high spirits! You

really do show that there is always

a GOLDEN lining in everything, no

matter how devastating things may

seem.

On another note, now that summer

has began, remember to remain

ACTIVE in your volunteering! Sum-

mer is the best time to rack up all

those hours -- what else were you

really going to do, anyway? I hope

to see a lot of participation during

break. Remember to apply that

sunscreen and enjoy yourselves!

See you at the DCM!

PAST EVENTS

The Vista Grande Fair is a large event that takes place annually in

the sunny month of June. Here, families from all over Tierrasanta

gather in support of a local elementary school. Understanding the

significance that this event holds on our home community, Serra

Key Club has stepped up to offer our assistance.

For 6 entire hours, Serra Key Club worked non-stop under the

beating heat of the sun. From games ranging from an ear-

wrenching balloon popping competition to a traditional bean-sack

toss challenge, we worked quickly and efficiently to get through

the never ending line of excited kids waiting to play the game.

These kids, after all, are the very children that this event has dedi-

cated itself to so passionately support.

Although this event was no piece of cake as it required us to be on

our feet and moving for the entire duration, it was undoubtedly a

rewarding experience. From the smiles on the kids faces to the

parents expressing their appreciation for our volunteers, it is unde-

niable that we have contributed to the success of this event. Serv-

ing our local community, after all, is what Serra Key Club does

best.

On June 8, Serra Key Club held our annual end-of-the-year banquet to celebrate an amazing year of service! With more than 200 mem-

bers and over 2000 hours served, we just had to celebrate! The event included catering from Phil’s BBQ, and special guests of the

event included our local Kiwanis members as well as former Serra Key Club Alumni Edward To and Isabella Tran. The banquet was one that was simple, yet bittersweet. Along with the impeccable barbeque we had catered, the banquet served as a

reminder of everything our club stands for. From the humorous club awards that were given away (which included the “Tuong Lang

award” and “Best Weave”) to the powerpoint featuring all of the successes that we have achieved as a club, we gathered together as

a family for the last time to recognize the bond, unity, and accom-plishments that we shared as a club. This banquet was a knot--a knot that has sealed the end of a com-mendable and unforgettable year.

An event where Key Clubbers from Region 1 and 2 get together to

learn how to become better members and officers for the future.

Workshops are presented, ranging from learning to use Photoshop

to learning how to keep their school’s Key Club running. In between

the workshops, Key Clubbers get together to show off their spirit

through their mascots and cheers. These spirit battles will deter-

mine which division deserves the spirit trophy at the end. A dance

follows after all these tiring workshops to release the stress. We

hope to see you there this year!

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

TECH EDITOR’S CORNER Yo, Hippos! I do apologize for the late newsletters so far, but I

promise it won’t happen again. There are a lot of complications

this month for me to submit it on time. But it’s here, nonethe-

less. School’s out this month, but service still does not stop

there. There’s plenty to do during the summer to give back to

the community, so hang on tight there, Key Clubbers! Hope your

summer’s going well, too~

Stay Frosty,

LAST MONTH’S QUESTION

What will you miss about school when you go

off to summer vacation?

Seeing my friends

everyday on the

weekdays!

Summer vacation is a relaxing

getaway from all the stress

from school. However, once

summer starts I realize that

I slowly become a potato

couch. I miss seeing all my

friends on a regular basis

and laughing everyday dur-

ing lunch.
