1. STANDBY ButtonSwitches the unit between the ON and STANDBY modes.

2. INFO ButtonDisplays station information in DAB or FM mode.

3. MODE ButtonSwitches between DAB, FM, iPod and AUX modes. iPod mode is only featured when an iPod/iPhone is docked.

Removing the Plastic Strip from the Remote Control

Remove the plastic strip from the battery if the battery is being used for the first time. It is located at the bottom rear side of the remote control.

2. Pull out the battery holder and remove the old battery.

Battery Replacement for the Remote ControlThe remote control requires a CR2025, 3V Lithium battery.

1. Slide and hold the battery release tab in the direction of the arrow.

3. Replace with a new battery.

4. Insert the battery holder back into the remote control.

Handling the Battery• Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which

could cause fire, personal injury or damage to property.

• Install the battery correctly in the battery compartment. Normally the battery’s positive polarity (+) will face up.

• When the battery is exhausted, the remote control will not function.

• Only use the battery type indicated in this manual.

• Do not dispose of the used battery as domestic waste. Dispose of it in accordance with local regulations.

• Small button cell batteries such as the one used in the remote control are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous. Keep loose button cells away from young children and make sure that the battery is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a battery cell has been swallowed.

Remote Control Operational Range• The remote control sensor on the front

unit is sensitive to the remote control’s commands up to a maximum of 5 metres and within a maximum of a 60° arc.

• Please note that the operating distance may vary depending on the brightness of the room.

Handling the Remote Control• If you are having difficulty removing the battery cover, use a paper clip to squeeze the

battery tab before pulling out the battery cover. Remove the battery.

• Do not drop the remote control.

• Do not allow anything to impact on the remote control.

• Do not spill water or liquid on the remote control.

• Do not place the remote control on a wet object.

• Do not place the remote control under direct sunlight or near sources of excessive heat.

• Remove the battery from the remote control when not in use for a long period of time, as corrosion or battery leakage may occur and result in physical injury, and/or property damage, and/or fire.

Connecting to the Mains Supply

Mains Power• This unit is designed to operate with a DC

9V 1.66A mains adapter (included).

• Unwind the mains cable to its full length. Connect the other end of the mains cable to the DC IN Socket at the rear of the unit then connect the mains adapter to the mains socket. Make sure the mains adapter is firmly inserted into the mains socket. The unit is now connected and ready to use.

• To switch the unit off completely, remove the mains adapter from the mains socket.

Ensure all connections are in place before connecting to the mains power socket.

Connecting the FM AerialScrew on the rod aerial (included) to the ANT socket. Extend the aerial and adjust its position to obtain optimum reception.

Use ony the FM aerial that is supplied with this unit. Do not connect the unit to an exterior aerial as this may affect reception or the unit’s functions.

General Operation

Switching ON / OFF• When you first connect the unit to the mains socket, the unit will be in STANDBY mode.

• Press the Volume Control Dial on the unit or on the remote control to switch the unit ON.

• Press the Volume Control Dial on the unit or on the remote control to switch the unit back to STANDBY mode.

• Disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket if you want to switch the unit off completely.

Selecting ModesPress the MODE button on the remote control to switch to DAB, FM, iPod or AUX mode.

If the unit volume is close to mute or idle for 20 minutes, it will automatically switch to STANDBY mode.

Adjusting the Volume• Press the VOl +/– buttons on the remote control to adjust the volume.

• Press the MUTE button on the remote control to turn the sound off. The display will show “VOl MUTE”. Press the MUTE button again to resume audio listening.

• Alternatively, use the Volume Control Dial on the unit to turn the sound to MIN. The display will show “VOl MIN”.

Setting the ClockThere are 2 ways to set the clock:

DAB Auto1. If, for any reason, the unit is not in default mode, DAB

AUTO, press SET on the remote control, then to select DATE/TIME.

2. Press ENTER, then to select DAB AUTO.

3. The unit will use the DAB broadcast to set the time and date of the unit.

Manual1. In ANY mode, press SET on the remote control, then

to select DATE/TIME.

2. Press ENTER, then to select MANUAL.

3. Press ENTER. The hour digits will flash, use to set the hour.

4. Press ENTER to confirm the hour, and start the minutes digits flashing.

5. Use to set the minutes, then press ENTER to confirm.

6. You will now enter the “Manually set DATE” mode. Follow steps (3) to (5) to set the Day (DD), Month (MM) and Year (YY).

7. After pressing ENTER, “SAVED” will be shown on the display. The unit will automatically return to the MANUAL menu. You can press SET to exit the menu, or press nothing; the unit will automatically exit all menus.

Sleep FunctionThis function allows you to programme the unit to enter standby mode by itself after a set period of time.

1. In any modes, press SNOOZE on either the unit or remote control.

2. Press either SNOOZE on the unit or SNOOZE or on the remote control to set desired sleep time:

3. Press ENTER on the remote control to confirm your selection.

4. “SlEEP” will appear on the display.

Adjusting the Music Mode1. On the remote control press SET, then to select SET

EQ.

2. Press ENTER, then use to select:

Setting loudness1. Press SET on the remote control, then to select

LOUDNESS.

2. Press ENTER, then to choose ON or OFF. Press ENTER to confirm.

Adjusting the Display Brightness1. Press SET on the remote control, then to select

DISP SET.

2. Use to choose NORMAL (default) for ON mode or STANDBY for unit standby mode. Press ENTER to confirm.

Setting the Time DisplayThis unit supports 12-hour and 24-hour clock display.

1. Press SET on the remote control, then to select TIME MODE.

2. Press ENTER on the remote control, then to select 24H or 12H.

3. Press ENTER to confirm.

If you have selected 12H (12-hour) time mode, the unit will display “am/pm” at the appropriate hour.

3. Select the level of display brightness (LEVEL 1 is dimmest, LEVEL 5 is brightest) using on the remote control. Press ENTER to confirm.

The standby brightness level can be set using the SNOOZE button while the unit is in STANDBY mode.

Setting the Alarm1. Switch ON the unit and press either 1 or 2 on the

remote control to select AlARM 1 or AlARM 2. Either will be displayed along with or , which will blink.

2. Press ENTER to start and then press to adjust the setting.

3. Press ENTER to confirm and go to the next setup step. Press SET to go back to the previous setup item.

4. When the alarm is ON and saved, the display will show SAVED and or will constantly blink.

Switching the Alarm ON and OFF1. Ensure you are in standby mode and then press 1 or

2 key to activate/ deactivate the alarms, or switch on the radio and press 1 or 2 on the remote control to select AlARM 1 or AlARM 2.

2. Then press to select ON/OFF. Press ENTER to save the setting. SAVED will be displayed to show the task has been successful.

Snooze and Acknowledging the Alarm1. While the alarm is active, press SNOOZE on the remote control or the unit to take the

alarm into snooze mode (the alarm will automatically default to a 5-minute snooze if not present). “ “ will be displayed and [alarm1] or [alarm2] will blink to indicate that snooze mode is active.

2. To acknowledge the alarm, press any key on the remote control or SNOOZE on the remote control.

While SNOOZE mode is active, press 1 or 2 to deactivate the snooze function. “ ” will disappear from the display.

System ResetThere may be times when you need to reset your unit back to the factory settings especially when you have moved house. If you experience reception problems you may want to reset and try again. If you move to another part of the country and pick up the local and national DAB stations in that area, your previously tuned channels may no longer be available.

1. In any mode, press SET on remote control, then to select RESET.

2. Press ENTER, then to choose NO (default) or YES. Press ENTER to confirm. “RESETTING” will appear briefly.

3. The unit will enter STANDBY mode and the clock will blink.

4. Press either the Volume Control Dial on the unit or on the remote control. The unit will automatically scan for DAB channels immediately.

After the system reset, all the tuned stations, DAB & FM preset stations and alarm settings will be erased.

Software Version1. Press SET on remote control in any mode, then to

select FIRMWARE.

2. Press ENTER to display the radio station’s information. After all information has been displayed, the unit will automatically return to the previous LCD display. Or press SET to exit.

DAB OperationIf the unit is connected to the mains power and then switched on from standby for the first time, the unit will automatically enter DAB mode and start automatically scanning. During the scan the LCD display will show “Scan XXX”

Once the scan has finished, the unit will select the first alphanumerically found station. Explore the found stations by pressing on the remote control, then ENTER.

If auto scan is not sufficient, you can use manual tuning.

DAB Auto ScanThe auto scan will search for the all DAB Band III channels. After the scan has finished, the first alphanumerically found station will be automatically selected.

Full auto scan will not replace the DAB stations in the unit’s memory. If you want to delete all the previously scanned stations, a system reset is required.

1. To activate auto scan, press SET on the remote control, then ENTER. The display will show “SCAN XXX” while scanning. When a DAB station is found the display will show “FOUND (No. of station)”.

2. All the stations that have been found will be stored automatically. Press on the remote control, then ENTER to listen to the desired station.

Secondary Services• Press on the remote control to access the station’s secondary services if available.

• Press on the remote control again to skip to the next station’s secondary services (if available).

Manual TuningAs well as using the auto tune function, you can manually tune the receiver. This can help you when aligning your aerial or when adding stations that were missed while auto tuning.

1. Press SET on the remote control, then to select MANUAL TUNING.

2. Press ENTER, then to start tuning manually. Press ENTER again to confirm the chosen station. The display will show the signal strength of the selected station:

If the signal strength is greater than the SIGNAL STRENGTH MARKER, you can tune the unit into the found DAB station. Press SET twice to confirm.

3. After finding your desired station, press SET twice to exit the menu and start listening to the station.

DAB Display ModesThe station name will be displayed.

Every time you press INFO on the remote control, the bottom line of the display will cycle through the following display modes: Service Name, DlS, Signal Strength, Programme Type, Ensemble/Multiplex (Group Name), Frequency, Signal Error, Bit Rate, Codec, Time, Date.

Service NameDescribes the type of service the station provides, e.g. news.

DlSDynamic Label Segment is a scrolling message that the broadcaster may include with their transmissions. The message usually includes information, such as programme details etc.

Signal StrengthThe display will show a slide bar to indicate the signal strength, the stronger the signal, the longer the bar will be from left to right.

Programme TypeThis describes the “Style” or “Genre” of music that is being broadcast e.g. “Rock” or “Classical”.

Ensemble/Multiplex (Group Name)A Ensemble/Multiplex is a collection of radio stations that are bundled and transmitted on one frequency. There are national and local multiplexes. Local ones contain stations that are specific to that area. e.g. BBC World.

FrequencyThe frequency of the present station will be displayed, such as “11C 220.352MHz”.

Signal ErrorA number showing the error rate. If the number is 0, it means the signal received is error free and the signal strength is strong. If the error rate is high, it is recommended you reorientate the aerial or reposition the unit.

Bit RateThe display will show the digital audio bit rate being received.

FM Operation

Switching from DAB to FM ModeTo switch the unit to FM mode, press the MODE button on the remote control. The display will show FM and the frequency or the station name if a RDS station is tuned in.

FM Station Scanning1. Press SET on the remote control, then to select

SCAN, then press ENTER.2. Use to choose STRONG or All, then press ENTER

to confirm. The unit will scan the FM band frequencies for radio stations that match your desired setting.

3. Press SET to exit the menu.

Audio ModePress ENTER on the remote control to toggle between the Stereo or Mono audio mode.

1. Press SET on the remote control, then select AUDIO, then press to select MONO or STEREO.

2. Press ENTER to confirm, then SET to exit the menu.

FM

FM

CodecThe display will show the radio (DAB) mode.

Time/DateThe broad caster (Radio station) provides clock and date information automatically so there’s no need to manually set this information. In the unlikely event that the broadcaster does not transmit any clock information, the display will show “<TIME/DATE>”.

For some DAB stations, when INFO is pressed, a city or region name be displayed, followed by MIN. & MAX. temperatures (e.g. MIN, 31°C, MAX, 31°C) then the weather (e.g. FINE).

Service NameDescribes the type of service the station provides, e.g. news.

Radio TextAs with DAB, the broadcaster can include a scrolling text that displays information about the current program. If Radio text information is not available, then the display will show <Radio Text>.

Programme TypeThis describes the “Style” or “Genre” of music that is being broadcast e.g. “Rock” or “Classical”.

FrequencyThis shows the frequency of the current station. e.g. 89.80 MHz.

Audio ModeThe display will show if the station being received is in mono or stereo.

Time/DateDate and Time will show on the display.

FM Display ModesEvery time you press the INFO button, the display will cycle through the following display modes: Service Name, Radio Text, Programme Type, Frequency, Audio Mode, Time/Date.

Presetting (Store and Recall) Radio Stations1. To store and preset your favourite radio stations in in preset 1:5, press and hold the

preferred preset button 1/6 2/7 3/8 4/9 5/10 until the display indicates the STORED number.

2. To store your favourite station in preset 6-10, press the SHIFT button once then press and hold the preferred preset button 1/6 2/7 3/8 4/9 5/10 until the display indicates STORED.

3. You can store up to 10 DAB and 10 FM preset radio stations.

4. To recall a stored preset station in 1-5, press the preferred preset button 1/6 2/7 3/8 4/9 5/10 .

5. To recall a stored station in preset 6-10, press the SHIFT button once and then press the preferred preset button 1/6 2/7 3/8 4/9 5/10 .

iPod / iPhone OperationUsing the iPod/iPhone dock you can use the unit to play music files stored on your iPod/iPhone.

This unit can support the following iPod/iPhone models.

Inserting the iPod / iPhone1. In DAB, AUX, or FM mode, slot your iPod / iPhone onto the iPod / iPhone dock. The unit

will automatically switch to iPod mode, and the iPod icon will be displayed.

2. Alternatively, press MODE on the remote control to select iPod / iPhone mode.

3. If the iPod / iPhone is connected, the unit will start playback (it will take around 5 seconds for the unit to identify the iPod / iPhone). The iPod / iPhone battery will be charged automatically till the battery is fully charged.

4. Select your desired music and use the connected iPod / iPhone as usual.

5. Press the Button on the remote control to start / pause / resume playback.

6. Press the button on the remote control to go to the beginning of the current track or to the previous track.

7. Press the button on the remote control to select the next track.

8. Press and hold the buttons to fast reverse or fast forward the current track.

9. Press the MENU button on the remote control to navigate between different iPod / iPhone menus. Press the buttons on the remote control to select the desired iPod / iPhone option and then press the ENTER button on the remote control to confirm the selection.

• If there is no iPod/iPhone docked, the unit will not change to iPod mode.• The unit does not show any music information from your iPod/iPhone, except the current track’s

playback time. Please view all other music information on your iPod / iPhone display.• To avoid damaging your iPod / iPhone or the unit, please take care when inserting and removing your

iPod / iPhone from the dock.

• To use the remote control to operate the menus of the iPod touch series, iPhone series and iPod nano 6th generation, you need to enter the music menus on your iPod / iPhone first.

• This manual provides the basic instructions of menu navigation on iPod / iPhone. For advance operations, please refer to the instructions that accompanied your iPod / iPhone.

Random PlaybackAll the tracks on the disc can be played in a random order.

• During playback, press the button on the remote control.

• Press the buttons on the remote control to play the next random track.

• After all the tracks have been played once, the playback will stop automatically.

• To cancel the random playback, press the button on the remote control during RANDOM playback. Normal playback will resume.

Repeat Playback• Press the button once on the remote control. The unit will play the current track

repeatedly.

• Press the button twice. The unit will play all tracks repeatedly.

• Press the button once more again. The REPEAT function will turn off.

Charging your iPod / iPhone1. Your iPod / iPhone has an internal non-removable battery, the battery may need to be

charged if it has not been used for a while.

2. You can automatically charge the iPod / iPhone through the unit when it is docked.

• If you charge the iPod / iPhone while playing music, it may take longer than normal to fully charge the battery.

• At any time, you can control the iPod / iPhone player itself directly.

• 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation iPods cannot be charged.• The iPod / iPhone can be charged with this unit in either ON or Standby mode.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Unit

Ensure the unit is fully unplugged from the mains socket before cleaning.

• To clean the unit, wipe the case with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth.

• Do not use any cleaning fluids containing alcohol, ammonia or abrasives.

• Do not spray an aerosol at or near the unit.

AUX IN operation1. Before connecting to the mains socket, use a 3.5mm AUX IN cable (not included) to

connect your audio device through the AUX IN socket at the rear of the unit.

2. Connect the mains adapter to the unit and then the mains socket.

3. Press the MODE button to switch to AUX mode. The display will show AUX IN.

Hints and TipsIf a problem does occur, it may often be due to something very minor. The following table contains various tips.
