Dadaism Dadaism began around 1916, some say it began in Austria, Zurich while others believe it started in New York the year before. Quite quickly, little pockets of Dadaism popped up all over the place like Berlin, Paris and Köln. Dadaism was a form of anti-‐art, set up in response to the First World War and was a reaction to the cultural and intellectual conformity that came with the war. Dada covered most of the performing arts and its style was the complete opposite to most art rules and guidelines. Dada focused on irrationality and chaos and rejected logic. Hugo ball was one of the leading poets who embraced this style with the poem ‘Karawane’ For Tech I was asked to create a graphic collage using texts and fonts, as you can see below I used the dada technique of using different font types and sizes and placed the text in different places, a method called the ‘cutting technique’, then for effect I used the mapping settings in Photoshop to make the text look as if it is crumpled on the paper.
